Ohhh, now I know why sometimes I have those patches of paint on the plate, I thought It was the brayer. And no, it is me! Rolling up and down and never lifting it.Thank you for all these tips and tricks. Going to wash them...😊

What a great, informative video!!! This should be on the "What To Know" page of Gelli Arts web site.

Many well-known artists have painted without a brush. They challenged themselves to experiment and made marvelous art.

Soaking in Murphy Oil Soap cleans them beautifully. How long depends on the build up. A day or two works for me. In fact, I use it to clean my brushes and hands too.

Thank you. This was really helpful. Also usually I hate the background music most RU-vid videos. I guess it was just the wrong music, because I absolutely loved this soundtrack.

Thank you for including proper acrylic paint disposal. So many crafters don’t seem to know that putting acrylic mediums and paints down the drain is both bad for your plumbing and our sewer systems. Too many demo just say “wash” brushes and brayers without explaining the particulars.
@63artemisia63
@63artemisia63 Год назад
@ rtd1791 And just as bad, so many demos encourage viewers to buy plastic and similar products - Mylar, styrofoam - instead of encouraging them to find ways to non-plastic items.

Thank you for this helpful video. I tend to use baby wipes to clean my brayers but your method is much more environmentally friendly. I will definitely try it. I really like your print. I am going to try this technique and use it for card making. ☺️

Great video! Thank you for the tips. The idea of using cornstarch or baby powder to reduce the tackiness of the brayer was quite helpful.

I bought a 12 x 12" craft storage box at dollar store. Took lid off . Fill with water and a little dish soap. (Dishwasher soap even better( I toss brayers, stencils, stamps I for east clean up at end of sessions. I let it dehydrate and wipe it out. Paper towels to trash keeps acrylic paint out if the drains

Great info. Here's my question: how do you get the paint so smooth on the plate? I always end up with paint having little lines - sort of like tree twigs. I can't seem to get it to be smooth. Help!
@marshavalk

Hi Linda, It’s hard for me to picture what you’re describing. Does this happen with one brayer or (if you have more than one) all brayers? Could it be that there’s a hair stuck on the brayer? Does cleaning the brayer help?
@63artemisia63
@63artemisia63 Год назад
@ Linda Barnett Those can brayer lines and they tend to happen with brayers with a kind of plastic frame holding the roller, although they can show up with wood handle-metal roller frame models, too. Try making sure you’re not rolling too hard or at an angle so that the frame drags through the paint. If you’re talking about the very faint lines from the edge of the roller, rolling over the lines should blend them into the surrounding paint. (Make sure you have the right amount of paint, too.) Maybe practice doing that until it comes naturally. After a couple of years working with my plate, I rarely see them. If all else fails, there are people who learn to accept them as a quirk of gel printing.

The basin I used is a small enamel baking tray that I found a couple of years ago at HEMA, which is a Dutch department store. I have a larger one too (from another Dutch store) that I use as a paint palette.

are there specific reasons why regular acrylic or heavy body would bead on the plate? it's not a problem i started with, but ended up with. im not sure what I'm doing that's detrimental, but it's gotten to the point where i might have to get another plate n that's super disappointing

Thanks a lot for this video. Which is the best paper to use?
@marshavalk
@marshavalk 3 года назад
Hi Susana! Most paper works wonderfully for gel printing. So I'm afraid there's no easy answer... The best paper for you depends for instance on what you want to do with the prints once they're done. I've made a video on the subject a while ago. You can watch it here on the Gelli Arts RU-vid channel: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qCh_l-sUr60.html

I have to say I HATE so many videos with no voiceover. Having to read the information is a GIANT pain in the arse. I’m a reader. Big fan of BOOKS. But RU-vid is a VIDEO channel, not a read for info channel. These “videos” are so frustrating- it’s info I want- but what a pain. 🤦🏻‍♀️😖🤬
