Brazil’s league has always been a mysterious place that produces some of the world’s best players, but the level of drama in Brazil has been turned up a notch recently with the uncovering of a wide-ranging and international match-fixing scandal that has the potential to expose dozens of players to the Brazilian justice system.
This investigation is still in the early stages too - but a whatsapp conversation leaked out and my goodness it does not look good. They have in fact been caught in 4K. The only question left is how far did this thing go exactly, because some sites are already linking specific bribes with specific actions.

The one you used was Romário's childhood club, and he actually was the president, and player at the same time, before he retired. It's a very tradicional team from Rio, although they're now in the 2nd tier of Rio's state championship.

You missed the funniest case, Fernando Neto, playing for Operário in 2022. He would receive half a million reais for getting a red card and he failed to do so. In messages with the guy who bet on him, he said he had tried everything he could to get the red card, he elbowed a guy in the face, kneed someone in the back, even swore straight at the referee, but instead of sending him off the refereee found that odd and asked him "are you trying to get sent off on purpose?"

My man Bauermann defended himself saying he's too good of a man and can't say no, so that's why he tried to fix his red card. And with all the evidence available he managed to only get a 12 game suspension.

Bauermann and his associates fixed the outcome of the ruling and paid off the judges to keep the suspension under 13 games they then bet on that oddly specific outcome!

The fact that you can bet on specific players getting specific cards is one of the most dystopian things I've heard today. Like, what's the point other than to provide an avenue for fraud or keeping addicts addicted? There's no game knowledge involved and no sense in doing that.

Il never forget the CL final in 2019 when in the first few minutes Sissoko concedes a crazy penalty and then when Lloris dived the right way he actually PULLED HIS HAND AWAY FROM THE BALL! just watch the replay. Two examples stand out to me. 1) Joey Barton getting sent off against Man City in the Aguerooooo game. Even the commentators at the time said they'd never seen a player try so hard to get sent off 2) Andy Carroll against Man Utd in the FA Cup this year. Completely out of nowhere he commits 3 red card offences in 10 minutes in the 2nd half, receiving 2 yellows for the last 2. Unfortunately he'd already injured Eriksson for 3 months.

To be honest, I understand how literally any person jn the world wants more money, but 2 things really make me sad about this. One is that money is apperantly more important than the sport, do we really need to bet? The second is that football players, who are at times very well paid, are so incredibly greedy that they go into this type of stuff. Let's not forget that everybodies favorite saint, Messi, is also a common criminal, a literal tax fraud. My god, are people greedy.

The guy came in with ten minutes left and in the first move he got a yellow card.Criminals jokingly praise the player's "efficiency". This scandal is not the first in recent history in Brazil, in 2005 a referee was caught fixing results several games had to be replayed and resulted in the competition leadership changing and defining the title for Corinthians . There is still a strange sequence of events in 2013, Fluminense was about to be relegated, Flamengo irregularly scheduled a player (which would lead to him losing points and being relegated), but the next day, by "coincidence" Portuguesa Paulista he also selected a player irregularly and the two teams from Rio de Janeiro were saved from relegation

Last season in Lithuanian top division A lyga there was few argentinian players who came to play for very cheap and later it was clear why. Ps. : 4-5 years later Serbian top division teams was openly doing match fixing. Now it looks they are out of it.

One of the most common memes last year in Brazilian football was the saying 'Isso aí é esquema de aposta'. Meaning 'that's clearly a betting scheme'. Funny how the public was right all along and some questionable decisions made by the referees were, indeed, part of a betting scheme.

Hey man, at 9:11 the badge shownd is from América - RJ (Rio de Janeiro state). The club cited in the next frames is América - MG (Minas Gerais state). It's a big diference, since América - RJ currently don't plays at any divison in the national league, meanwhile América - MG plays at Séria A (our main national division). We have a lot of clubs named America in Brasil, so the confusion is forgiven hahaha.

@@Mateus_Carvalho it is also important to note that amongst the accused people so far ha ie by far the one who got off the lighest in this whole situation. Two players got a year of suspension, two of the players accused have gotten over 2 years of suspension and two have been permanently banned from the sport. Also all of the players were fined for doingt this. The people that were coordinating all of the scheme were also been jailed and will be behind bars for this whole operation, so a player that wants to get into this willl not be particularly thrilled at the prospects.

I would say I'm shocked but not too long ago there was a betting scandal in the bottom tier of the Rio de Janeiro state league and when I mentioned it to my dad who follows the top tier a lot more, he replied with a "give it two years and it'll happen on the top tier". Sure enough, here we are. Funny how it also coincided with the Brazilian League trying to work a proper league administrative system so as to sell the rights to watch games abroad and whatnot. Quality timing, huh.

@@MirasMak Yes... when they're in the top tier, have loads of value and happen to be paid regularly. It's not like there are many rich clubs in Brazil, there's maybe two or three like it and the rest are all over the place even in the top of the pyramid. There's a reason these schemes usually start in the lower leagues where you have makeshift rosters and players that, in the lowest of the low, are paid under minimum wage.
