This tourist souvenir is from South America, brought back to the USA in the 1970s by a traveler who went to the Central Amazon Forest, along with many other artefacts. According to my analysis, this bow has a wide variety of features that makes it inconsistent to the typical Amazonian bows, and the small compact size indicate that this is likely a souvenir for the archeologist that was convenient to bring back on the airplane. Regardless, we take this opportunity to learn about South American Amazonian bows and their classification.
Bows of a mixture of features are commonly seen in Central Amazon Forest of the Xingu Park area of Mato Grosso, Brazil, but all finds are larger than this particular bow.
According to the book Bows and Arrows in Central Brazil by Meyer, Hermann Publication date 1898, There are 4 types of Central Brazilian bows:
Type 1: Peruvian Type
Type 2: North Brazil Type
Type 3: Guiana Type
Type 4: Chaco Type
Type 5: East Brazil Type
This bow is quite personal to me as I also travelled to the Amazon Rainforest in Brazil and visited Mato Grosso. I did not bring any souvenirs back however

@@andrewsock1608 The design of the bows though gets overlooked in Jungle parts of South America besides the tribes with the 25--35 pound bows that they have the long thin arrow with the poison or venom on the end to kill the animal. The Bows more from Andies are more talked about at those -horned recurve tested with the last traditional/mostly traditional tribes and villages in the 1990--2000's are found to up to the lower end range for the war-bows from England and Europe that were 90--100 pounds at the least for the flat limb war design depending on country and 120 pounds minimum for most war long bow designs including Scotish smaller English longbow design. The pheasants who were asked to start using bows in middle ages in England, Scotland, and Wales used lower poundage bows

I wonder what method of drawing Amazon tribes use to shoot their bows? I've seen in documentaries the bows and arrows used by uncontacted tribes in the amazon. The arrows don't have nocks in them.

Palm trees then look at Bamboo, the Japanese make Yumi and Kumi bows in the Bamboo for years due to not having the right woods, the Maples they have are too hard more Baseball Bat hardness, and some Chinese designs of the Asiatic horse archery bow designs they make were made using Bamboo in southern regions where it was harder to find wood as were some of the Korean/Vietnam bows but in odd little strips so bow was like one piece of wood.

Hey did you know the reason they used those long arrows is to get the correct spine to clear their primitive bows handle? They use no arrow heads , just fire hardened points, or light weight bone tips. The lack of tip weight meant they needed to leave their arrows long. Ya dig it?

The bow in South America I like is the Incan high Andies bow that is made of antler and part of the skull of a South American Mountain Goat with a Strong sinew string. The Bows pulled 90--120 pounds in the documentary I saw as at age 13--14. I thought ever since seeing that if I lived in a State that allowed for North American Moutain Goat hunting I would get one to make the Bow in this design but shaving the antler, so bow is lighter.

i am from the south of brazil far from the amazonian forest here the natives make bows from wood similar to ashe or oak, once my father traveled to the state of rondonia which is part of the amazon region, and he bought one bow of the indians selling it on the side of the road , the bow was of that same black wood the arrows were made of river cane and the tips were made of the same hard wood as the bow, the bow was at least 1.70 meters and probably have 50 or 60 pounds and have a cut nocks it was also well decorated it was a souvenir but it was functional
