Brazilian React to BTS (Black Swan) - First Time EVER 

The connection is because of BTS and ARMY. You have found a family here. I've only been a part of this journey for less than four years, but I can tell you it has changed my life! "A dancer dies twice, and the first death is always the more painful" - Quote by Martha Graham. RM wrote this song and he did watch Black Swan the movie and was inspired by it. He cried when writing it. It's about BTS's fear of losing their love/passion for their music. RM is basically a poet, but they've been writing their music since the beginning. And you are right about not knowing what to expect from them, but what you can expect is genuine art and beautiful music and lyricism.

You understood this 100%! In retrospect after Festa 2022 when they announced the beginning of Chapter 2, (solo work & military before reuniting) I believe that Several songs on this album deal with the fact that they lost focus and inspiration and needed time to rest and reflect on their own before coming back together stronger than ever after the military. This embodies the Karl Jung’s psychological concept of Shadow, the dark part of your personality. From the album Map of the Soul 7 in 2020 that covers Shadow and Ego. The previous album was Map of the Soul- Persona. They were supposed to do a big world tour in 2020 to promote this album, then take a break for solo work and military service before reuniting. But Covid happened in early 2020 after they started promoting the album with this song and O.N., with 3 MV’s shot in LA California. Plans changed. Their big tour was cancelled. This led to Dynamite, the “pandemic album” BE, Butter, Permission to Dance (PTD), 2 Grammy nominations, the PDT tour in Soeul, LA& Vegas, their anthology album Proof. They finally started solo work one by one in late 2022 through late 2023 and the last 4 enlisted in December 2023. Jin comes back this June 12!!! Jhope in October and the rest in June 2025. 💜💜💜💜💜💜💜

Jimin, who does the solo dances studied Kendo and has a black belt in Taekwondo. He also studied contemporary dance. As you continue your BTS journey, you'll see that he combines the two in his dances in the group choreography and his solos. Please watch the 2018 MMA (Melon Music Awards) show to see Jimin's solo dance that was captivating and is widely praised and talked about to this day. It is a work of art! Actually, all the BTS MMA and MAMA award shows have garnered praise from around the world. They are mini concerts. They pull out all the stops at these shows!

Jimin is a contemporary dancer but he is also a martial arts genius. He started when he was young and wanted to be like a one piece character so his parents sent him to learn Taekwondo (has a black belt), later he took up Hapkido while with a friend in Seoul, for some reason, I don't know if it was during his Taekwondo or his Hapkido training he has also picked up Capoeira training, that is evident when you watch the later part of Black Swan. That flip on one foot and spiral are both Capoeira moves, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that. In any case Black Swan was part of their 2020 album titled 7 and that was to be their swan song before they went into the military and by that time they had been on tour and busy with albums and end of the year award shows and tv shows for 7 years. They were exhausted and were ready to stop and start their military training. So this song talks about how exhausted they were and how they felt that no matter how exhausted they were they were asked to do one more album, at this time they had an album they were going to release in Japan called The Journey and one more song, and one more song. In February they put out 2 singles ON and Black Swan after having been on the road for 7 years, made 14 albums, for at least 96 songs, (they now have 230 in 2024), 5 concert tours, 4 fan meet up tour, one joint tour, 5 showcases, 8 concerts, not to mention the end of the year award shows. This song I think forms a very solid place for them to feel like they can say we are tired, we want to rest

There is a behind the scenes, called a ‘Bangtan Bomb’ which features Jimin’s dancing in the Black Swan mv. I think you’d like it. All 7 are insanely gifted/talented artists. So happy for you that you have discovered them.💜

The coreographer is Brazilian, Sergio Reis. Jimim, the solo dancer, is a contemporary dancer and member of BTS. He is also a black belt in Taekwondo. I suggest you watch a GUIDE TO BTS by Taylor to really grasp how talented all of them are individually and as a group. Borahae. 💜💜💜

Jimin is a Contemporary Dancer which is based in ballet but not ballet. He's also a Hip Hop Dancer and a Martial Arts Expert. He does combine all 3 together in Black Swan.

Jimin, who is the one trained in contemporary dance, much like ballet is also a black belt in Taekwondo and practiced many martial arts. His dancing is out of this world, not to mention his singing.

I don't know if this is true but this came out as their career was hitting newer and newer levels so maybe this was kind of them feeling the pressure to be perfect, being a kpop idol (that's what kpop performers are called) etc and hoping it didn't squash their love of music and performing.

Their is another reactor that was reacting to this song, but based on the comments (I didn’t watch due to what the comments were saying) the reactors said something along the lines that this song was poorly written & has lame lyrics (especially with the yeah yeah yeah, & bump bump bumps, etc)… They are so ignorant & really didn’t read the lyrics. It's funny you caught on to the dance style, Jimin trained 8 years in kendo, hapikdo and taekwondo, he's a black belt and went to school for performing arts. He has managed to compile so many different styles into his dance abilities from his background.

And it has snippets of songs that maybe you'll be interested to hear/watch (many with the tittle, but some of then only with the instrumental like ambience, so if you are interested in those ones, ask for the titles). Maybe it could be a good idea to have a notebook to make notes of those songs.

This has been explained by a lot of ppl in other reaction videos but yes, your interpretation is correct and the song is inspired by Martha Graham's (the dancer) quote, "A dancer dies twice - once when they stop dancing, and this first death is more painful". Similarly, BTS likens their creative passion for their music and their art dying out to a first death. This quote was mentioned at the beginning of the MV/art film for the orchestral (instrumental) version of this song. (There is a short art film for this orchestral version with contemporary dancers (MN Dance company) doing a brilliant dance performance.)

Eu dançava desde os 5 anos de idade e por determinadas situações que me ocorreram, há uns 4 anos atrás mais ou menos, eu havia parado de dançar, simplesmente desisti de fazer o que tanto amava e isso me colocou naquela caverna escura da qual eu não via saída... De fato, como a frase que inspirou essa música retrata, sendo uma dançarina eu senti como se estivesse experimentando minha primeira morte, e isso me deixou muito assustada, tive medo de nunca mais conseguir voltar... Então eu conheci o BTS e especificamente essa música, e vi o Jimin (o que fez as partes solo da dança no MV com passos de dança contemporânea incríveis) dançando pela primeira vez e me apaixonei por sua dança, encantei-me com a forma que ele se expressa nos fazendo sentir exatamente o que ele quer transmitir em cada movimento, o quanto ele se entrega a música e se doa em cada passo, e isso acendeu novamente aquela chama em meu coração, me inspirou de tal forma e me trouxe outra vez a vontade de dançar... De uns 2 anos pra cá aos poucos estou voltando a fazer o que eu amava, e estou feliz demais por causa disso. We realy, really don't care how long a BTS video reaction is. For real, we'd watch it all the way through. I don't want to speak on behalf of anybody, but I honestly can't even count how many times I've seen that video through reactors, it's got to be in the high hundreds by now. One of my favourite things as ARMY is watching people discover them and learn how different the reality is to their pre-conceptions. One day - if you continue on this journey - you'll feel the same way, I guarantee it. You have a dog? What's his name!? I'm glad your family is good now. I hope it continues.

Good call on the martial art. Not only did Jimin study contemporary dance, but he's also a black belt in taekwondo.

“Black Swan” is inspired by a quote: “A dancer dies twice. The first time is when he stops dancing and this first death is much more painful”. “Black swan” is about their fear that some day they’ll lose their passion for music and this would be their first death. They chose to use autotune in this song was to show the group's shadow (they're deepest collective fears/secrets) vocally, the fear being that they would fall out of love with their craft. It was RMs idea to use the autotune to blend their voices, (which makes sense since he likes Kanye’s music and Kanye uses autotune on his vocals). Black swan is based on Jung's work of the map of the soul where the shadow, ego and persona (and more) are all equally important parts to a person's construct. The dance moves in particular you can see in the beginning they pluck what seems to be invisible string instruments, while at the end of the choreography they seem to be hanging by those very strings like puppets. Their shadow (fear/secret) has consumed them. Ok, so... the song draws inspiration from both the ballet (Swan Lake) in it's choreo and imagery, but also draws a lot of inspiration from the movie "Black Swan", which in turn is heavily based on the Japanese anime film "Perfect Blue". Both movies break identity and deal (in a non-obvious way) with Carl Jung's theory of the self: Persona, Ego, Shadow. In these movies, a female performer spirals into insanity as increased pressures in her career cause her to lose grip of herself and reality. “Black Swan” tells the story of Nina, a passionate ballerina (Natalie Portman) who struggles to maintain her sanity while competing for the main role (the White Swan, Odette) in “Swan Lake.” Meanwhile, “Perfect Blue” follows Mima, a former (Japanese) pop idol whose sense of reality begins to waiver as she attempts to transition into a career as a serious actress. Both stories feature a female protagonist is put in highly stressful situations and that makes them question their identity and ultimately conjure up a doppelgänger that messes with their psyche (persona, shadow and ego, basically clash). Just as Nina suffers from the pressures of being a ballerina, Mima is also forced to deal with the strict expectations of being a Japanese idol. Their personal conflicts also bleed into their professional lives causing them to spiral out of control. In Nina’s case, it comes in the form of her oppressive mother and in Mima’s situation, it’s an obsessive stalker fan. At the core of the film, both protagonists have a psychological battle with themselves that results in hallucinations that blurs the lines between fiction and reality. In the end, like I said, these films break the self and deal with themes like loss of passion and the heartbreak that come with working for your dreams. Black Swan (BTS), at its core, reflects these themes. I think that Perfect Blue can be chillingly on point for BTS, since they too are idols and experience some of the things that Mima experienced as an idol and continues to go through. BTS reflect the core concepts of these movies, identity, and conceptualise them to reflect their fear of losing their passion for music and, by extension, losing themselves. They portray people who are afraid that music is all there is to them and are afraid of losing themselves if they lose their passion. This song became even more heartbreaking for us after their FESTA Dinner 2022, when they announced they’re taking a break from making music as a group. They expressed that they had been feeling lost and unsure of their identity as a group since the MOTS: 7 (this song’s album) release and the plan to take a break had been in place since then. They planned on having their world tour (MOTS Tour, which got canceled due to COVID-19) and then taking a break to work on their solo music, not only to find their unique flavour as artists, but also to rekindle their passion for music. Reading the lyrics for Black Swan, it makes sense that RM cried after writing this song. It expresses their fears at the time, how they felt like they no longer had an identity and feared they’d die if they lost their passion for music. And ohhhh boy, Jimin's (the guy you liked) dance haha he did train in ballet, albeit very minimally and as part of his main focus, which was contemporary and that's what he mostly trained for during high school. He is "professionally" trained in contemporary, hip-hop and idol dance. Even the members have said that Black Swan is Jimin's song, that he embodies the black swan. This is further highlighted in the 2020 MAMA version of Black Swan, where he does a duet with Jungkook! Anygays, Jimin's dance style is unique and probably near impossible to replicate since its highly influenced by his 8+ years experience in martial arts + hiphop training. +idol training + his contemporary (and minimal ballet and Korean traditional) training. They write and also produce almost all their songs and are heavily involved in everything from the concept to the performance and always say their own story that's what makes bts different from other kpop groups and are so popular. You understood the song reallly well I guess all artists can relate and understand the depth. ALso it's part of their map of the soul:7 album which is a continuation of their trilogy album map of the soul: persona and shadow and is related to carl jung's theory of self. O cara que estava sempre em destaque nesse mv se chama Park Jimin, ele fez dança contemporânea na escola de artes de Busan (cidade natal dele), antes de se juntar ao BTS. Ele faz parte da vocal line e da dance line e Está constantemente se cobrando para ter um desempenho perfeito a ponto de chegar a exaustão física e mental. I'd reccomend listening to Spring day and later explanation to it, cause it's deep. It's my favourite BTS song ever honestly. From the more 'interensting' ones you can aslo react to cyphers (there are 4 of them), Magic shop, Save me, Fake love, Life goes on or I need you. Their older songs are more hip-hop style usually, but as you can probably already tell they just do everything. I also reccomend to later listen to whole albums song by song, because they make it like storylines usually so they're better to get in context. BTW I've been an Army for like 7 years now and I can honeslty tell you, that once you start loving them there's just no way back. Everybody can find something they can relate to. Don't feel the pressure of not showing your emotions, cause we really do get, that even the smallest things can get you to cry, and that's ok. It means you just let yourself be yourself and are a kind soul. Cry if you want, laugh if you want. Just be youself and like BTS tell us through one whole album: love yourself.

Yes I had that only recently I got annoyed with a fellow band member who would often either come late, leave early or not turn up to Band Practice. Then I feel we don't perform as well as we can I got really at the point of tears because of it yet a fan said something I really needed to hear. He said "Your voice sounds is so beautiful". yet to me it was our worst ever performance.

I am 54 and grew up on rock and metal, but BTS is my favorite group. No two songs sound the same, and they have over a decade of music. You never know what you will get with them. They all released solo albums before going into the military. They all have their own unique sound and taste, which you can hear more in the solo work. You also have not watched a live performance, which they are even better live.
