@@spoonzor1many people also miss that Jenny refuses Forrest’s love because she’s afraid to ruin him. She doesn’t say she doesn’t want to marry him, she says “you don’t want to marry me”. She sees him as too good for him, on top of her skewed view of love.

From Elvis to AIDS (or Hep C in the book), Forrest Gump is the story of an entire generation; the historical touchstones, the music, the traumas, and the philosophical questions we wrestled with. There are some American History classes that use this movie to teach that period of our history. You did a great job recognizing that Jenny's life was shaped by her childhood trauma, many reactor's don't understand that. She spent her life trying to turn into a bird and fly away from her problems. When Forrest walks away from her grave there is a flock a birds flying away right there.

My thoughts as well. I've seen the movie at least 40 times since I first saw it in the theater when I was 10. It was a huge deal but I didn't understand it. When I was young it was funny, but as I get older, I become more and more amazed by it. I don't cry easily but this movie does it often, and this reaction had my crying my eyes out because her reaction was like seeing it for the first time again. She noticed things that I had not noticed before after all this time. This is probably the gold standard of a reaction to this movie. I've seen them all and this is the best. If anyone finds one better, I'd like to know, because this was such a powerful reaction. Loved it!

CGI was in it's infancy back then. Part of those effects on Lt.Dan's legs were done with Blue screen socks over his legs and clever editing to make it look real. Blue Screen was what came prior to Green screen and modern cgi. The historical footage they added him into was done via rotoscoping, which was what came prior to modern cgi. They had some cgi in it, but the technology was limited, so that is why it took both old school film and new school film techniques to create the film. Jurassic Park was done the same way.

1. The music rights alone must have cost a small fortune🤑🤑 2. Kurt Russell did the voice for Elvis. 3. IRL Sally Fields is only 10 years older than Tom Hanks. 4. Having gotten his degree Forrest would have gone into the Army as an officer like Lt. Dan. Not a recruit. His ASVAB kills that. 5. He actually saved Lt Dan twice. Once in the field and again to get him out of his post war funk and Dan turned his life around. 6. Normally an enlisted Army person would be fully aware of his/her separation date. 5. Jenny did indeed give him the best gift ever (it wasn't the shoes)😍😝😈 8. Jenny died of Hep-C from dirty needles when she was in Caliphony.. 9. It's ironic that Lt. Dan told the guys to take care of their feet because he loses his. 10. Observation: Bubba isn't exactly a small man. Forrest carried him with a bullet in his a$$.😱 11. At the rally Forrest says, "In Vietnam, sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that." 12. You have had a ride through recent US history and culture. From Elvis, John Lennon, Abby Hoffman to Vietnam and Watergate. Even the jogging craze of the 70's. About the only thing left out was streaking. 13. "Sometimes I guess there're just aren't enough rocks" 14. Haley Joel Osmentt/Forrest Jr. steals the show in "The Sixth Sense" with Bruce Willis.🤩 15. Often when he's finishing a segment about death, he ends it by saying "That's all I have to say about that" 16 Keep in mind if Jenny wasn't wasting her life seeking men like her father and was with Forrest he/we wouldn't have had this incredible journey.

The restaurants have obviously shrimp related items and the inside is decorated from the movie. I’ve eaten at 3 different restaurants in California including the first one in Monterey CA. There used to be a bench with a Forrest statue sitting in front of the place. Many would sit and take pictures with it while they waited to be seated.

One aspect most people miss...the coach who got Forrest into the University of Alabama was Bear Bryant...one of the most successful coaches in college football. It is also true during that time period athletes who might never have been eligible for college were recruited. They had curriculum and tutors who helped them get through college. I also appreciated the fact that Jenny was also "running" but in a different direction that Forrest because of her abusive childhood. She ran to the escapist counter culture...Forrest ran to success. I was continually being put down and harassed on my last squadron when in the military. Then on deployment to Australia in 2000, I was going onboard a ship and the gangway collapsed. Three of us fell thirty foot into the harbour. Even though my body was smashed from the waist down and badly broken from the waist up, I kept a girl afloat until help arrived. People on the squadron suddenly started to look at me differently because I had proved I wasn’t what they thought I was. The girl often thanked me for saving her life, but in reality she saved mine.

My interpretation: As characters, Forrest and Jenny are two souls who fly through life. Jenny unfortunately has experienced so much trauma, she'll fly from anything. It's the solution that's kept her safe from things going bad, and the gift she gives Forrest when they first encounter adversity together. It's why the only advice she's had for him was to run. Now, in his own way, it's his solution. Forrest runs so fast, and so relentlessly, misfortune can never keep up, and good fortune can never escape. Jenny flees from Forrest every time they cross paths because she's afraid she will be happy, and something will go wrong, as it always does. No matter what she's seen that's good, in her experience, it always goes wrong, and she gets hurt, so the best thing is to escape before it gets bad. Forrest is the purely good fortune that, no matter how far she flies, he will always catch up to her. Over time, Jenny learns she deserves happiness, it doesn't always go wrong, and finds she doesn't need to fly from him anymore.

Wasn't expecting much as I've never heard of your channel and I've seen this film sooo many times, but you offered insights that I'd never considered before, like the comments the film makes on the contrast of Forrest's mother's teaching that everyone is the same as everyone else, vs Lt Dan's ultimately flawed view that arbitrary labels and ranks mean something at the end of the day. Subbed

The braces were how they treated Scoliosis back then, now they use back braces or surgery. This is mean to mention with how heartbreaking the ending is for you. But Jenny would have died of AIDS or some form of HIV, most likely AIDS given her drug use especially the needles that were probably shared. This was 1994 before they could treat it, or treat genetic transmission, Forest Jr most likely has AIDS as well and won't live long. This was Haley Joel Osment's first role that had a name, he played "little boy" in another movie the same year. In 1997 he would have another role involving AIDS playing a young boy named Lucas Simms on the show Walker Texas Ranger. Lucas the son of a drug addict was found by the Texas Rangers in a closet full of feces and rats, food spoiled around him. His mother died of AIDS further along in the show and he got it from her. Lucas Simms died of genetically transmitted AIDS.

In the book Jenny had Hep C which a lot of people got from needle drugs. Many of them died later.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the child actors who played Forest and Jenny? I feel they never get enough credit. Michael Conner Humphreys as Forest, and Hanna R. Hall as Jenny.

When you're ready for another good cry please watch The Green Mile. It's a beautiful but VERY sad movie also starring Tom Hanks. It even has a small supporting role with Lt Dan himself Gary Sinise.

I had a sociology professor who spent time in England and he said social classes separated themselves. Some pubs shared kitchens, coolers etc with only a couple steps up or down separating them. Everything cost more in the upper class one and it was difficult to judge people by clothing usually but shoes would always show quality.
