We suspect that a valve seal has failed on the GAZ-41B engine in our BRDM-2. This means that oil is being drawn into the cylinder from the rocker cover through cracks in the seal. Also note the engine tapping noise from the same engine side which is present on the opposite side, (I should add that we checked that the valves aren't cracked with an endoscope). These clips were taken after warming the engine up to 60°C over 25 minutes. Any feedback on your thoughts to the problem would be appreciated.

Did you get this figured out?

We think now it's a failed piston ring (lower one on a piston) drawing in oil from below. If it were a valve seal, we would see it smoking more on down revs as that is when there is the most cylinder suction to pull oil in through those seals. Either way, I'm not worrying about it right now. It'll be an engine out job at some point, but for the moment it's passing a pressure test

c17gm mine doesn’t have that problem yet thankfully but it’s still all new with only a couple hundred miles on it.
