Nice to see a proper Yorkshire range that hasn't been ripped out and sold at a reclamation yard! Keep pub interiors original, part of our heritage, once they are gone, they are gone for good. Well done for getting your hands on the last pair, ooh matron! Salivating now, great upoad!
@@simplywhitby5356 I lived in the Yard when The White Horse in its current format first opened. Stuart Perkins bought it and wanted to run it as a pub. But the licensing authority wouldn't give him a license. So he opened as a Pub anyway. Then every Saturday night for the next few months, the Police raided them and shut them down. Then Stewart worked out if he served food he could serve Alcohol. So he started selling a bowl of chips with a pint. Then as time past, he experimented with food and various chefs (I think Dave Mathews and Eddie Hall were two of the early ones, and went on to be awesome chefs sought after locally), The place ended up getting a name for awesome food and was packed every night, with locals. Next came the reviews, The Independent, Times, Guardian, they all came and said it was one of the best food restaurants around. Prices doubled, locals couldn't afford to eat there, but wealthy tourists took up the empty seats. It went from Strength to strength, and then Stewart pretty much had enough and moved on. But he has created a few other good business around town too. Last seen supping a pint in Sandsend Hart Inn.
Lovely video again Simon , thankyou...me and my good lady are coming to Whitby on Friday till monday 😊😊... hopefully bump into you and even better find a wristband...looked a few times but not found one yet ...
Evening Simon. Thanks for the vid. I must pop into The White Horse & Griffin next time I'm in Whitby, it looks a really nice place for a meal. Must stock up on the Fortunes kippers too. Take care now.
Was going to buy some of the kippers when we visited recently but it was quite warm and wasn’t sure how they’d go on the six hour journey home! So I enjoyed sharing your breakfast!
Love that pub, hey have you ever had one of them bones stuck in your throat, just go for the bread and butter, omg, yes, comodo dragons can eat anything, you star 🤩🤩👍,
Another cracking Vid Simon! Deffo looking now for hotels in and around Whitby for a short stay! Thanks. Like the comment - Eat the bones, my digestive system has had a hammering over the years 🙂 I just love that you speak similar to I do, and just 'Tell It As It Is' Finally, I'm pleased that I finally got to post something that didn't get pulled down instantly by the Bott and you sorted things. Just trying to help you and others. Chin Chin
Hey Simon Fortune kippers for breakfast & why not ? I ❤ Fortune kippers , They're done proper 👌. Not had them at the White horse & Griffin But Me & Mrs have been in there for a cheeky drink or two & we have had a nosey in the restaurant . I remember it's behind the small bar. ❤ly staff in there. It's a fantastic historical place, I was talking to one of the girls behind the bar. Hey, Hey Simon She mentioned the place his haunted 👻 Broken drinking glasses on the floor when the staff arrived for work & one of the staff mentioned she saw a dark shadow Spooky stuff 👻👻👻 I'm glad you & the ❤ly Mrs M are both enjoying a full & joyful retirement. You both deserve it . Cheers 👍 & Chin,Chin my friend 🫡
You cant beat a Fortunes kipper. Mind you I prefer the kipper fillets because of the less bones. Ive had smoked salmon and bacon from there too. Absolutely gorgeous. Try wrapping them in tin foil with a good knob of butter and do them in the air fryer then the house doesn't stink for hours afterwards. You can also do them in a jug with boiling water but I prefer the fryer.
Glad they serve the kippers there as no longer on the menu at Rusty Shears. Whitby institution. Barnards butchers at Fylingthorpe had their bacon smoked at Fortunes.Brave man I can't handle the bones😮 Cracking Simon.
If they’ve got Fortunes kippers that will do for me. I always fillet kippers by turning them over and pull the tail up while I hold the fish down with the fork.
Top Nosh, love their Kippers but they stink the house out 😂. By the way Simon, I went into Barkat Catering today and mentioned we had seen them in your video. They remembered you straight away and have had a few people coming in because of your video. Fingers crossed if you go in again you might get a freebie. Definitely a great place and good value. Only a few weeks and I’m back in Whitby, can’t wait.
@@simplywhitby5356 yes we got that deal too, we got some starters and chapattis. The young lad threw in some more starters too. 2 of the curries have gone in the freezer to be enjoyed another day. 👍
Used to get Manx kippers back in the Day, Liked 'em but its the bones and the fact they repeat on you that puts me off these days lol no prices on the menu though?
Mr Whitby....I did a ghost walk in Whitby and was told that the Horse and Griffin was haunted by a previous landlady who was know for her flowery perfume. And she appears not as an apparition but as a flowery perfume smell when people are alone in the bar.
