Hi Kim. Thanks for stopping by. It's a pleasure to see you here. This is just a "clip" from an old documentary . Most youtube viewers have a short attention span, (about 3 minutes according to youtube research tests, so I try and keep my videos short. LOL. If you want to see a longer version just type "Helen Keller - 1950's Documentary, Part 1. (Clip)" into the youtube search bar. There are 3 parts to the documentary. Thanks for your interest. Best Wishes! :)
When I was in 3rd grade our teacher went through the whole class and locked each one of us by ourselves for two and a half minutes in a completely dark soundproofed closet, to demonstrate what Helen Keller's life was like. I will never forget that lesson as I live.
I haven't watched this much about Helen before, or seen these old film clips. I see why she is famous and such an inspiration. Not just to the disabled or elderly, but to all of us. We need to learn from someone like her and get over our petty political or religious differences.
dave skerritt she's been deaf and blind since she was 19 months old... she's not inspiration to just old people or disabled. she persevered through a great obstacle to prove nothing is impossible if you set your heart to it
She was never broken. This story made a great impact on me. Instead of making movies about superman they should have filmed something worth seeing about this great superwoman.
The amazing, life of Helen Keller, she sure was an inspiration, someone we all could look up, too... she challenged life, and made such, a difference.. Thanks for sharing, it was sure interesting, to watch... Have a great day..
I am reading biography of Hellen Keller ,,. it is really a wonder how can a complete blind and deaf can understand so many things n also described so beautiful,.
She is amazing NOT JUST because she was deaf and blind and managed to live like a normal person, but because she was also a social and political activist, writer, lecturer, feminist and hundred things you and I with our good hearing and sight could barely achieve.
Bonjour mon cher Eddy. Merci pour le commentaire tres gentile, mon ami :o) Hope things are going well for you. It's always nice to see you here! Warmest regards...Always! --- Helene
Hi Mars. Yes...I always think it's interesting to see Helen Keller in her daily life. Thanks so much for dropping by, my friend. It's always nice to hear from you! Warm regards!
It’s incredible! And Anne Sullivan was only 20 years old when she was hired by the Kellers. It’s no wonder this story is still remembered so well to this day.
You can probably use "google translate" to translate the video description that is written under the video. It has all the words from the video . Thanks for your visit. Best wishes!
I mean without sight or sound you get to avoid a lot of negatives in the world. Plus she has a better friend then we will probably ever have. I would say her life is good.
I always wondered about her when I was younger, hearing different things and stories... nice to know these gems exist. kudos to the person who thought to record this so long ago.
Well, she was 19 months old when she lost her hearing and sight, so it was almost all she knew. But, yes, she was not quite like the rest of us in determination and spirit. It's a life we cannot imagine if we've always had sight and hearing.
Deaf people can "feel" sound. Think of being in your car next to someone with their bass turned up all the way, how it shakes the windows, how you can feel the bass. That's similar, they can feel the vibrations of the music
Next time you listen to music get a balloon filled with air, if you sit close enough to the speaker or have the music loud enough, you can feel the balloon vibrate, that's kinda like how sound feels
Hello my dear Helene, thank you for this beautiful video with a chapter from the life of Helen Keller. Since my childhood I have always had great admiration for this wonderful woman with courage, iron will and intelligence arrived to defeat the biggest obstacles inflicted for her disability. My school directed by the Sisters of the Congregation of Saint Vincent de Paul, life Helene was part of education. Wishing you a good weekend. Always your friend. Rose-Marie PS, sorry for the delay, I'm always at running after time;)
I remember that I did a book report on Helen Keller when I was in the 7th grade. She continues to be such a huge inspiration to me as well as so many others. Love you always Helen Keller ❤
Me too! Except I did my book report in 3rd grade. I was so impressed with Helen Keller that I learned the manual alphabet and played around with learning Braille (letting drops of Elmer's dry on paper, then running my fingers across them...) In college, I took several semesters of ASL. I am absolutely enjoying these videos here on RU-vid, aren't you?
Extraordinary inspiration. Incredible woman, as were all the women who taught and supported her with such care and respect through her life. I love the notion her that her companion Polly speaks in order to "break the silence". These videos are somewhat twee and a little condescending but they were made with good intentions and gave the audience a compassionate insight into her life and showed her resilience (at a time when disability was hidden behind doors and lives and opportunities were so limited)
Fantastic role model. It all started at the water pump when Helen realized when Annie Sullivan signed the word water and Helen understood.. out of the darkness into the light. May she rest in peace.
Helen Keller was an incredibly inspirational human being. Her struggles and her triumphs had a deeply profound affect on me when I was a little girl. From her I learnt stoicism and determination, but most importantly, no matter what, to remember that no matter how bad things might be, to remember, that unlike Helen, I had the precious gifts of sight, hearing and could communicate. That I could see and hear birds, the blue sky, the sound of the ocean.. things Helen never could or would. And if that little girl could overcome such difficulties in silence and darkness through her strength of will and mind to learn, to grow, to overcome, then with the benefits of the gifts that I had been given, if she could do it, then I most certainly could. I’m sure that Helen has had that same impact on many, many children over time.. and probably a few adults as well. A very remarkable human being. Addit: I forgot! My middle name is Helen.. not named for her, but I’ve always been incredibly proud to bear her name.
Is anyone in the RU-vid world, related to her? My great grandpa was Oscar Keller. I had known that my grandma, Nina Keller was related, but do not know how so.
☜❤☞ Her life’s journey is unique. It`s truly an inspirational, motivating and eye-opening experience for everyone who cares. And it brings so much joy to my heart to learn more about such an immensely beautiful person. I loved to see this private moments. Sincere thanks for sharing. Much love from Bad Homburg, Nena (Littlebricksfusion)
I think it is good that there are no cynical comments here as there are on other Helen Keller utube video posts. Just think how it would be if you were the new parent of a baby who was now deaf and blind? A movie such as this would give hope. It would be inspirational to see Helen live a good life. When all is lost, we all need hope.
I wonder if she knew how to call her dog and make sure she knew where he was and that he was ok, or if she had to rely on Polly to do that. I wonder how Anne Sullivan might have taught her the difference between yelling out to get someone's attention from far away vs. talking at a normal volume, to someone next to you, and how well she understood the concept. I'm sure she probably did because she was a genius, but I wonder how long it took her to get it.
You believe hellen Keller may have been a genius? She was eithier a hoax or a genius in my opinion, a normal person would not be able to learn anything being born blind and deaf.
Heroes ..she is mine..I have read everything about her..I love this woman..she taught us more than we could've ever taught her..her world wasn't dark at all..because she brought so much light into ours..she was a beacon of hope for so many like her.. I thought of it this way Thru their darkness..Helen Keller became their light house of hope.Helen Keller was a gift from God...
Two people who fit together so perfectly...to give is to receive & humility comes with helping others....we can all benefit by helping others....the helper & the one who is helped. When life is symbiotic it functions perfectly!...love,peace,harmony,joy & light...Reeka👁
Fantastic video anout amazing woman ,Helen Keller. i am very happy you posted this.Thank you very much. Many beautiful greetings to you., my wonderful friend.
Hi Mirja. Thanks so much for the nice comment. I'm glad you enjoyed the little video. Your visit is a pleasant surprise, my friend! Wishing you a wonderful Summer.
Interesting--my great grandfather, Stroud Van Meter, was blinded at 32 in an accident in January 1892 at the rock quarry where he worked. It was believed he was mortally wounded but he recovered except for his sight. His family strung ropes around his property so he could walk around. He could also do some work, used a cross saw to cut wood with his sons. The part in the video where she takes a walk reminded me of Stroud.
Polly took over after Anne died, and remained with Helen as her companion until her own death. I'm fairly certain Polly never married, as she devoted her life (1914-1960) to living and traveling with Helen Keller. After Polly died, Helen attended public events with a woman named Evelyn, but she did not live at Arcan Ridge with Helen. I do not know who served as her personal secretary at that time, or who may have lived with Helen, but I do know that her last few years were quieter without Polly. I highly recommend Helen Keller's "The Story of My life" written at age 22 or "Midstream" written in her middle life. There is a ton of correspondence to and from Helen about the nature of their relationship--not only was Polly her companion in translation and language, but they were extremely close friends. Anne Sullivan called Helen and Polly her two girls, and the three of them are interred together in DC.
I think I read that one night when Helen was alone in her bedroom, an oil lamp malfunctioned or caused a small fire, and Helen started screaming and knocking things over. But luckily, Anne Sullivan heard her, and came to the rescue. I can't recall the exact details though. Warm Wishes! :)
Unfortunately, she learned it via her longtime original former teacher, Annie Sullivan Macy. It’s the one huge downside to Helen Keller but I respect that she learned to deal with being blind and deaf.
@@EmilyGloeggler7984 She was a Socialist because she believed the basic human needs should be met by the community and the the government at large and that the government (meaning we the people) should strive to create equality for all in society. She even mentions that how she ended up and how well educated she was able to become was because her family had decent wealth, and that a poorer person in her situation likely would not have been as fortunate as her.
@@TheHomerowKeys it is sad that Americans have become so brainwashed that the mere thought of a society where everybody helps everybody else and makes sure that at the very least people should have access to healthcare, housing, food and education has them running for their pitchforks. That they’d rather keep giving their money to the corporate gods and worshipping at the altar of me first than stand shoulder to shoulder with their fellow Americans and carrying a brother or sister for a while if they fell. How damn sad.
What a fascinating and incredible woman Helen Keller was - such an inspirational story of how any thing is possible when you truly believe......I am so glad to be here on this wonderful channel.....warm regards.....Lorraine
if you think about it this is like the grandfather of the modern day documentaries you'd see on TLC or Discovery Channel or on RU-vid channels like Barcroft TV! however this seems more wholesome. not to mention its probably way less scripted like modern day reality documentary shows! 🤣
