I grew up and currently live in Los Angeles. Tech was a great place to avoid distractions. I studied hard, lifted heavy, and made plans for the rest of my life. Lubbock is a great place.

LUBBOCK update: we are very excited to have Coach Maguire here in Lubbock he has definitely fired us up.. most sensible people wished that Matt Wells would’ve worked out.. coach Wells is a good man he didn’t do nothing wrong it just was not the right fit. I personally and I know many others will hope and wish for nothing but good things for Coach Wells.. but we got a great head coach and now we got in incredible Defense of coordinator Tim freaking DeRuyter and we brought home our office of coordinator Kitley from Western Kentucky! So far impressed with the coaching staff! Guns Up !

As a Tech fan we are happy with him!! The people who aren’t happy just don’t know who he is and what he’s done. Y’all Baylor fans seem to be very classy about him leaving and wishing him the best!

I hope he works out. I agree with these guys and hope tech gets Harrell as offensive coordinator and maybe McGuire can bring his buddy from Carolina as the defensive coordinator. If all that happens tech should finally get back on track with recruits. I'm optimistic but I'll admit I didn't knowing he was before this

Texas Tech made a great choice. Joey will embrace the school, energize the program, and bring in the right people. He’s a great coach and motivator. I think Tech even has a chance to win a 6th game this season with Joey already there helping the team.

I stopped where the guy said can't go to concerts. Obviously he isn't a Country Music fan. The recruiting thing has been proven false multiple times, and at least Lubbock is still Texas and not inodiated with Californians who changed the landscape. BTW, if you drive from Waco to Austin for a Country Music concert, chances are the band is from west Texas.

Bob Stoops was never a head coach, and he did pretty well at OU, and Lincoln Riley is doing fine too.

First media head I’ve seen give a fair assessment of lubbock without outright bashing it. Props to you guys. Lubbock is a great college town with great people but it can be a hard sell. McGuire has a daughter who went to TTU so he knows how to sell this place to young prospective student/athletes.

Y’all don’t know anything about Lubbock. Listen to your man every band you want to see stops in town. It’s only 4 1/2 hours from Dallas now. Drive down 35 one time to Austin and try and tell me it’s not hell on earth. I wouldn’t live there after college, but as a college town it’s great.

Well a lot of bands actually make Lubbock their first stop either out of respect for buddy Holly or a superstitious about it bringing good luck on the tour

@@nickinportland me too when I was growing up it really was surprising to have all the big names come to Lubbock. But now that I've moved out of the city and experienced places all over the world I don't think I'll ever live there again I'll just go back for family gatherings

We don’t need to travel far for concerts we get them all here in Lubbock… metallicA Volbeat.. all the Texas music artists even Garth brooks but he sucks. Lubbock has 300,000 people we are a larger city bigger than Norman bigger than Manhattan ( ks) stop the hate on LUBBOCK I love living here we got better wine here than any of y’all

Texas Tech, a P5 school, fires its coach with a winning record at mid season, and this is the best they can get -- a guy who has never been a college head coach or even a top tier coordinator? 😂 No offense to the McGuire guy. He's just not who a P5 school should fire a coach to hire at mid-season, more like a UTEP or someone like that. I thought Tech was going after a big name P5 head coach at another school.

Wells was 13-17 overall at Tech. His “winning season” this year was smoke and mirrors. His wins this year came against 3 non-conference opponents and a terrible West Virginia team and Kansas. Your statement is flawed.

It seems like a risk but I'm still going to be optimistic he should be a good recruiter in the state of Texas and tech can get some good coordinators. Maybe a graham Harrell as offensive coordinator if he gets fired

@@zachtdietz It may have been, but you guys floated the names of Leach, Hugh Freeze and even a potential hire of Art Briles..............and you end up with a guy who has never coached a college game as a head coach in his life. That's what you'd expect a G5 school to do, not a legit P5. Unless Tech is out of money or something.

Texas Tech AD should have just contracted UTSA AD to find their coach since they just copied what UTSA was looking for. Tech will fail though. Traylor has Wilson's recruits and Wilson was a great recruiter for LSU. McGuire will not inherit a team like UTSA and his predecessor is not a notable recruiter. Big Dummies!!

We’re grad to have him. Lubbock is a great college town, it’s also a town with a massive music scene for a city it’s size. I’m glad to have a great recruiter who can bring talent here and show them that Lubbock is great and Tech can win (with good leadership. So many opportunities for the future. I’m excited, Guns Up!
