As the news broke that Minnesota Timberwolves owner Glen Taylor announced that he will no longer be selling the team we were joined by David Samson who had inside information about the deal. David negotiated with Alex Rodriguez when the former third baseman tried to buy the Miami Marlins. The same thing that stopped A-Rod from getting a deal done with the Marlins is stopping his already agreed to sale of the Timberwolves.

From what I’m seeing online: -Alex and Mark owned 40% and needed to bump it to 80% this past week. -They needed 600 million to do so. -The Carlyle group in question backed out of their 300 million commitment but were replaced with another equity firm called Dyal. -The Alex and Mark camp submitted the paperwork to the league last week heading into the deadline. -Glenn Taylor then claimed they didn’t meet the deadline and weren’t eligible/getting an extension and the team is no longer for sale. -The case must now go to mediation and arbitration to resolve the dispute as outlined in the agreement. TLDR: Alex & Mark are claiming they’ve followed through on their obligations to finalize the purchase of the team. Taylor is saying they didn’t and trying to back out. Now its going to go to court to settle the dispute.

Glen Taylor is a slimy turd. If the team wasn't worth at least $ 1 billion more than when he made the original agreement, this wouldn't be an issue. And if the team was worth less, he certainly would have allowed an extension on the payment.

The dude who bought the Suns was interested in buying the Wolves but when Taylor insisted on doing it over the span of a couple years, he moved on to another team. Taylor was having sellers remorse he even was saying it on radio this whole situation has been very strange. This is gonna go to litigation i guess it would just depend what that contract says. Because there have been reports that they were struggling to raise the money but just 2 weeks ago Lore/Arod put the paperwork in to finalize the deal so something isn’t looking right here

I’m not saying the new group is not at fault somewhat but if you know Glen Taylor’s reputation there’s more to this then they don’t have the money. Glen went on like 3 radio shows right after and basically was asked if the increased value of the team had anything to do with this decision and he said YES!!! That’s not the thing to say right after this with possible litigation coming.

@@williestyle35 apparently Lore and Arod are very confident they’ll be winning this lawsuit, they’ve already been on the media tour and said that they wanted to buy the team straight up in 2021 and that Glen wanted the payment plan. That they have all the money and were just waiting on league approval for the sale which they would’ve know in a week from now. Lore and arod were always gonna win in the court of public opinion but will see in real court. All reports out of here basically are confirming Taylor had sellers remorse being the biggest part

They have already purchased one traunch of the team (40% worth) They were supposed to buy the last 40% (to make it a total of 80% & majority shareholders) on Dec 27th. They then worked out a 90 day extension with Glenn but the money was not delivered yesterday the 27th. Hence the news today. This was always going to be the final result based on the weird and rare circumstances of this deal. Basically all new owners write a full one time lump some check then own the team or part of the team the next day or two when the check clears.

@@WheresWaldo05yep. This was already a "sweetheart" deal for A Rod and Lore, with the "two step" purchase agreement. A Rod never had enough of his own... financing in the deal, then tried selling parts of his interest to raise money. Never a great idea.

ARod and Lore wanted to pay the entire $1.5billion in one payment but Glen Taylor is the one that wanted separate payments. Lore and ARod submitted everything they needed to submit to the NBA. Now they just need approval which automatically gives them a 90 day extension. Taylor is trying to back out of the deal.

Not at all. A-Rod gather the money just close to the deadline but NBA Chief Executive of NBA Adam Silver and the gangsta Glen Taylor (he is politician) made a deal under the table, in others words we are tied due to have common interest: Greedy, influence, power, corruption. No man, Adam Silver is not a white dove opposite he is wolf like Glen Taylor. Timberwolves has been a lose team from 1995 when Taylor perceives in the last season that the team increases its value and the possibility to get the NBA title he refused achieved the deal with Lory and A-Rod. I say the again, Adam. Silver is the hooker dressed sexy who attend and bring the drinks to the NBA's iwners, especially those who report incomes and benefits. In short, all of this Saga or drama is about the abuse of power and corruption.

Glen has owned the team almost 30 years. We have *TWO* playoff series wins. Taylor wasted Garnetts prime, fumbled KAT most of his career, and now that Ant is poised to be the guy in MN and a potential face of the league this walking carcass is refusing to give up his mediocre authority. KG was retired in Boston but here #21 is yet to have its spot in the rafters or a statue out front of Target Center. Yes he's MN through and through wanting the Wolves to stay. But the league is interested in expansion, they would create new teams before rebranding and moving the Timberwolves. The Sonics to Thunder is likely the last time that is going to happen

The league is not going to have anyone buy the Timberwolves and move the team. The Wolves are too secure in their arena and market (rn). If the NBA were to do anything to add more owners, they would indeed expand with new franchises - as you said. Even the small market teams like in Memphis, OKC, and New Orleans seem pretty secure in staying... but you never know, I had thought the NBA would never be involved in Vegas or sports "betting", yet that has changed.

If anything Lakers would return to MN if LA didn't have Hollywood. Lakers won 5 chips in MN before moving and now they're still struggling and can't even beat Wolves. Gleen did his best but he just so unfortunate to have had bad GMs
