Ant, the way you out yourself out there, again and again, in order to give us the opportunity to learn with you, is immense. Im so impressed by your humility and openness. Thank you! By the way, i think you rip 🙌🏼🏄🏽♂️
Thank you,I am watching and learning, having surfed since early 1973,I had an accident an injured my neck 11 years ago, since then I have surfed a paddleboard, just getting back on a surfboard now at 65 years old,it is a 7'6 Chilli mid strength.
Not the coolest surfing topic but I notice Clay's glasses and wonder what he and others do to correct vision while surfiing. I've tried it all: little floaties on my glasses (I've lost many glasses to the sea), prescription goggles (kooky in the summer - really impractical in a winter hooded wetsuit), and contacts (great for a short session, but crusty eyes on an all day session).
When I teach golfers that struggle to open up their lead knee, which opens up their hip, they often are digging their toes into the ground. My question for Ant is he feeling a lot of toe pressure when he is coming off the top of the wave (toes feel like grabbing the board) instead of shifting into his heels (toes lifting up feeling) to open up the hip? Clay is this the same feeling here with surfing?
What's the secret to fading the takeoff? I've seen advanced surfers paddle from further out and close to the wall. My normal take off feels a little difficult to go nose to beach as it feels a bit like I only just ride out the rocker of my board and occasionally nose dive? (I know the whole don't look down bit.)
33 minutes in I find Ant that your body movement was slightly slower than the turns you’re doing because you had speed hence why you’re losing balance perhaps?
Im 11:25 in and scratching my head. Waaaayyy too complicated. Listen we cant all be talented surfers. Some guys surf 40 years and never progress past the awkward beginer/intermediate stage. If youre over 20 and learning to surf accept the fact that u will have an ugly style. The older u are when u start, the worse it will be. I dont care what anyone says, it helps if u come from a skateboarding background! The best way to learn is to surf surf surf and when theres no waves just paddle! Paddle for miles! Surfing is like 90% paddling. And finally, watch alot of surfing! Find someone whos style u really like, now watch his style and technique and try to emulate it.
