Ebro in the Morning gives a song by song breakdown & recap of Saturday night's Nelly vs Ludacris Battle #EbrointheMorning #Hot97 #NellyVSLudacris SUBSCRIBE: bit.ly/HOT97Subscribe
@@lnb252 Outside of "Yeah!" by Usher, Luda's hits never got quite as big as Nelly's "Hot in Herre", "Dilemma", or "Shake Ya Tailfeather", but he still had big hits around the same time like "Stand Up!". Plus his run of hits had longer legs than Nelly's . Nelly had the biggest hits, but Luda's were almost as big and he's got more.
It's an internet battle. Both of these dudes were running the radio and high school/college clubs for all the late 80s babies. 2000-2005 both held it down. Nelly had dudes wearing band aids on their faces. Luda was like the down south Busta Ryhmes mixed with Missy.
I remember how much all the girls liked them back then around the year 2000-2001. They thought these guys were almost on Ginuwine's level of fine back then.
I wouldn't say the most BUT he definitely on that list with some other bar heavy ppl like Meth and Bus and Big Boi and Bun B. He has his peers respect definitely but to the masses what he said is overshadowed by the popularity of the songs he's done and feature on
His wave was insane. I lived through the era when Luda and Nelly were dropping their tunes and to be honest Ludacris had a bigger impact. He just started acting and stopped dropping albums over time.
I’m originally from the East Coast, but moved to St. Louis when Nelly was taking off. I had Luda winning easily too, but it’s funny. No one in St. Louis thinks Nelly lost.
They coulda gave him like 3 points early in the battle. We kno Luda winning, let that man get his points off before yal bury this man sheesh lol like Tailfeather & Nasty Girl.
They shoulda let Nelly get the Dilemma one off. if u was in elementary school when that was out that was all the girls would sing lol especially if they was coupled up
I don’t think this crew was feeling Nelly when he was hot. His records aren’t as Rap Rap like Luda...so no matter what it’s a huge L for Nelly. But Grills, Dilemma and Air Force one’s are for sure not L’s
Right, country grammar was a bigger record and changed the landscape of hip hop more than what's your fantasy, some kid comes out of St. Louis with this whole different type of flow and the world embraced it.
@@goat8434wasted, lemonade, icy, freaky girl, spotlight, own worst enemy, bricks, streets nigga, back on, remember when, nothin on ya, make the trap say aye. Gucci got 10 times more albums than Jeezy
I’m good with a tie, but they was being wild bias! I can see Luda winning 11-9 12-8 but they had it 15-5! Bruh! That’s just hate! We all know Luda is the better rapper but Nelly has WAAAAYYY bigger hits!
Facts...Nellyville went DIAMOND and they didnt give a point to Dillema, Hot in here or Air force ones? Why they think so many people baught that album?
Luda to this day the most slept on rapper of all time. He’s considered a has been by young bucks but if you’re 25 and up you either consider Luda a legend or your ass done forgot how good he was. CONSISTENT from start to finish
How did y’all not catch nor talk about Luda playing “Money Maker” with Nelly on the hook instead of Pharrell? THAT was the big reveal of the whole battle. Smh Sidebar: Def Jam dropped the ball by switching Nelly for Pharrell on the hook. That song would have been just as big if not bigger with Nelly on the hook just because people pit them against each early in their career.
They would be the first ever to win a Grammy off of a rereleased single from 10 years ago lol Everybody would go into their old hits that didn't go as big as it should have n rerelease them lol
@@609promotions it did... i wouldn't go as far as saying it would reach number 1 on a rerelease tho. streaming numbers have been down since quarantine. but it would be cool for the culture
I think it's more of their taste that makes them seem like that, a LOT of nelly songs they actually picked weren't better songs musically, which is probably why their radio station gets SO much criticism
People sleeping, my problem with Hot 97 is you can clearly see who they are biased for. I'm not saying Nelly won, but Country Grammer would've def beat that first song Luda played.
Never purchased any Nelly album or been a big fan, but being from the South, I know they have a biased ear to an extent. Im all for solid bars,, but good music is good music.. There were 3 rounds Nelly should have won
"Hot in Here" has more cultural impact than "Move", but "Move" killed with bands across the nation during football season Im sure. Hip Hop won again to celebrate 20 years of two massive 21st century careers, but they shortchanged Nelly here. There were some very close rounds, but Nelly had a couple culture shaping tracks that edged out some Ludacris tracks.
Ya'll tryna play Nelly you kno damn well he got hits I like Ludacris but some of his records wasn't touching his this whole break down sounded bias give that man his credit
Nah, a few rounds they have to Luda should have been at least draws. They kept saying ‘you could go either way on this one, but Luda’. They robbed Nelly of Country Grammar and Dilemma. And Hot In Herre. We talking about Diamond singles here.
Nelly was more pop and had more white fanbase that's why. Back in the day everybody in the hood had bootleg Luda cds. So u gotta add all the bootleg sales for luda too
Andrew Rodriguez Lies They both made the record as far as I’m concerned they were doing a lot of Nelly hating because there were definitely more points going to nelly than what they gave. If that’s the case then you might as well save a lil Jon is and usher made lovers and friends
@@HeadToSoles whoa now... lol i don't know where you're from, but "lovers and friends" was a fuckin' hit. I just appreciated Luda's performance on that song a little more than Nelly's performance. But no slight to Nelly. I was still singing... "...tell me ma, what's it gonnnna be..." haha in my country accent
@@nisha5669 but...... "sometimes wanna be yo' loooova... sometimes wanna be yo' friiiiiend..." lol I definitely appreciated Luda's overall performance more than Nelly's. But I was surely bumpin' 'Dilemma', so no slight to Nelly
Luda's bars hit hard. Luda is a true spitter but most people sleep on him cause of his vids wen he goes crazy. But Nelly hits the charts hard. But I give this to Luda all day everyday cause am here for the bars....#nolifegang
TI dont got a catalog of bangers like Luda. Lots of hood cuts but universal bangers.. Not even close. Don't forget this includes "features" which Luda is the King of.
Nothing But Net omg. Luda’s features are crazy. “Made me look” remix, “Oh”, and numerous R&B features. Crazy!!! When I was a kid how I learned about other music was picking up records with luda featuring on it!
Luda had the better songs lyrically but if we keeping it 100 Nelly songs was bigger during the time they dropped.. but I enjoyed the vibes of the battle..
should just song by its longevity , can play any luda song now. ..Nelly's songs did not age well at all lol this was a blow out most of the rounds nelly won were debatable, all Ludas were blow out an I'm pretty sure luda could of went another 20 rounds
Right. Nelly has bigger pop records than Luda but it's this battle that reminded me that I was distracted by the crazy music videos Luda was really a lyricist!
That's true. Luda obviously won but there are some that should have went to Nelly. But equal sound quality with no bad connection made me choose fairly.
Just my opinion in these ""VERSUS Battles"" they're no winners or losers to be honest. As "Timbo's" says it's a celebration more than anything. Shouldn't have to pick a winner, as it's more about the music & culture. Just enjoy the Music from the Artists.
There really arent no winners or losers but i guess the fun part is since we know their hits its cool to see what they play in response to a hit or how they strategize
This damn generation is soft as hell "Its no winners we all are winner" Hell NO! EVERYBODY dont get a trophy... This is not 2nd grade sports this is Hip Hop so man TF up
Dude they picked Lover and Friends over Dilemma, when Dilemma won a Grammy Award, was #1 for over a month and is one of the biggest selling records of all-time, HOT 97 is ass!
Luda has great records across the board and his song placement was good. Ebro was right when he said that despite ludacris's commercial success he always maintained his MC side
This battle was way closer than what it was Nelly should have won country grammar air Force ones because that was a culture movement of making a shoes go from $75 to a $100 and hot in here was a bigger record than move bitch do they realize how many times that video was being played and Dilemma is a fucking song that woman loved and one of the best early 2000s video's
No one appears as pissed as I am about that. You could get it for about $70 prior to his track dropping. I never rocked one since, and never been the person to try living that lifestyle (keep up w/Jones). It was a bad track tho
can't believe he waited until after the battle to play Dilemma. plus he didn't play #1 or Over and Over. Could've been even closer, a tie, or perhaps winning the battle if he used those songs instead of tracks that not really people have heard before.
Exactly. Real niggas can keep it g. Country grammar, grillz, n air force 1s was a win in dem rounds 4 me. New York ain't tryna hear midwest sound 4real.
@@YCsBest yea cuz they both pushed tha rap/r&b agenda...being sex symbols lol Luda was busy punchlining while Nelly was busy just making good songs. They're both great in there lanes Luda-Rap Nelly-Pop
1) Why do you Capitalize random Words? 2) Neither of them have ever been close to being "GOATed," but if one of them was - it'd be Ludacris. 3) "da" isn't a word. This isn't 2006. You're not in high school.
Watching their narration of the battles give me an inside view of how our(Down South) music is viewed by New Yorkers. They have a major different outlook on songs than we do. A couple times they chose the record that meant less Down South. Whether it was in Luda or Nelly's favor.
They crazy if they think Stand Up is beating Grillz lol😂😂😂. Nelly won that round hands down!!! That song was so big even dental offices was quoting that song on advertisements and billboards😂😂😂.
pistolpvyg the fact you think lovers n friends is a BIGGER WORLD WIDE HIT than Dilema shows you already like Luda as a artist more than Nelly so it’s already bias
Not the whole culture. We was rockin Air Force 1's on the east coast way b4 that song came out. Ludacris has better songs regardless of sales. Better lyrics, overall Ludacris was better💯
I'm Ludacris all day. Had the first album on. His rapping skills is above many. He is of the same creativeness thread, lyrically and visually like Busta and Missy.
