Bazooka Joe said this fight made him realize that his boxing was not up to par. He'd been super kick-heavy up until this point, and Nieky's boxing dismantled him. Joe's boxing is absolutely beautiful now, and he teaches the fundimentals wonderfully

Bazooka Joe has a strange style of boxing where he brings his non-striking hand back behind his guard. Its almost like his hands want to stay in line with his shoulders at all times. I've noticed it leaves him open to counters and I don't think he's really changed it. His recent videos look very similar to how he fought Holzken when he did throw his hands

His channel is amazing too, he is a really knowledgeable champion but willing to teach all the fundamentals on RU-vid for free. Here is another one. These two Canadian champions are just humble and generous, the best striking channels on RU-vid to me.

@@LowKickMT yes, in fact Joe's hand leaking down below his shoulder after a right hand is what cost him this fight. He ate at least 3 full power left hooks from his hand being errant exposing his face, and after the first one he's not the same. He loses about 25% power after that, especially on low kicks, and Holtzen starts trading weak kicks for head shots. Lazy right hand defense vs a right hand fighter.

What Bazooka Joe Accomplished with very very little high level fights and very little experience is crazy. He stood up and put up and went out on his shield came back and became the welterweight champion. Stuff of legend

Love your analysis and breakdowns, and i truly appreciate how much golden fight game knowledge you and Joseph share with the rest of us on your respective channels. I remember being crushed when Bazooka Joe lost this match, after seeing him just wreck shop in his division I was sure that he had the means to outpace and outwit Holtzken and continue his arc to victory. They're both incredible fighters, but I was so bummed that night! I'm so happy for both of your accumulated success in your endeavours, Gabriel. Much respect, good sir!

Hey Gabriel, big fan! I noticed while watching this video with headphones on that the audio of your voice is exclusively on the left side only, while the rest of the audio uses both ears. Didn’t know if you noticed the small audio issue or not (or if it even matters to you) but wanted to point it out regardless :) So hyped to see you cover Bazooka Joe’s fights!

This fight was definitely one of my favorite kickboxing bouts of all time. Both Joe and Nieky are beasts. They legit threw the kitchen sink at each other.

Holzken’s hands being low was really an assertion of dominance. He’s usually got his hands so high but I guess with the experience he thought he could get away with being a bit less careful.

Regarding your point on the jab, I mostly get my weight behind it, my intention is that my opponent keeps the guard up so that I can get in and work on the body with hooks and uppercuts. Are you saying that this only works agains't inexperienced fighters? is it a bad habit to get weight behind the jabs? Great video!

Hi Gabe. Without any intention to discredit you and Joe. I compare both of you to Manny Pacquiao. His pro debut in the U.S. was against a world champion. And Manny stop him. The champion corner throw a white towel. Please don't get offended. But can you explain the difference between manny and Joe and you? It's a serious question . I like and respect you. I respect you and the great fighter you are Varga, but you cant compare Holzken and Kubo... Also, Kubo was 2 times k1 max japan champ I think, but definitely wasnt 2 times K1 MAX world champion, as you made it sound.
