They are sacrificing their feet , leg ligaments, muscle 's etc, etc as a young person. Which is really sad . That's why you don't see them in their 30, 40, 50's, etc dancing. I love that she uses square toe shoes (as opposed to the pointed toe), part of the reason she can endure what she’s talking about. Definitely helps. The ones that come to a point? I don’t know how anyone dances in those at all, but some ballerinas prefer them. My guess is, one reason is how they look to the audience. More delicate, too, some people think these are boxy. Also, the pointed shoes are the original type of toe shoe from the 1800s. I wouldn’t care, these shoes would be just fine! I like the look of these better anyway, as a dancer and as an observer.

@@cutehollygolightly You basically have injured toes, ruptured ligaments, most of the times very badly injured knees and pretty bad back pain. The thing with ballet is, while you’re young and healthy you don’t notice all of it, but once you became older, all the pain from knee and toe restraints and thigh stretches that went too far will come back. Plus, most ballerinas also have mental health problems and such due to strict teachers and intense training. I was always told that any professional athlete has some sort of injuries related to their activities and it applies to ballerinas as well, unfortunately.

The music of "The Nutcracker" is from another space. I had the greatest pleasure to watch and listen to it two times around Christmas a couple of months ago. I hadn't watched it before and concidered it as a huge miss. The two performances were incredible, I was crying with tears and was feeling so indescribable. Later I watched the other two ballets by Pyotr Tchaikovsky - "Sleeping Beauty" and "Swanlake" - and they all are nothing less than masterpieces, but "The Nutracker" wins my heart undoubtedly. Look up “ballerina feet” on Google. Some are pretty scary. Lots of blisters and bandaids. Hers are pretty nice. Ballerinas tend to sprain and break ankles more than toes. Lots of pressure on the ankle and you are making it do things it would never ever do, so that weakens it.
@Darapsa

I haven't known any to have broken toes. Strains or pulls are more likely to happen.
@RTCPhotoWork
@RTCPhotoWork 6 месяцев назад
Broken toes make no sense for how ballet is danced. More common injuries are calf strains, achilles tendonitis, etc. Soft tissue damage and things like bunions, not so much broken bones. Those can be minimized with proper stretching/warming up and technique; when a ballet dancer dances en pointe, injuries can be minimized by not starting too young before the foot is done developing (around 12/13), good foot care, and properly fitted shoes.

I never did ballet growing up and during covid began some online adult lessons from Everyday Ballet. I had no idea how much strength and intention everything requires. EVERYTHING. Even standing requires a lot of thought 😆 Stand tall, shoulders down, head up like it’s being pulled from a string, activate your core (which my PT taught me it’s like a Keagle exercise with your bellybutton facing backwards so I do that) Arms loose and elbows out. KEEP SHOULDERS DOWN. When pointing toe aim with pointer toe. When on toes don’t lean in pinky, use pointer toe/inner foot. All this and more I haven’t even imagined to simply stand and point your foot. Ballet dancers are incredible. If you’ve never taken a class, I definitely recommend trying a quick free online one just to have your mind blown 🤣. Also wanted to add: I never realized that the leg doing the movement isn’t the one that’s doing the most work. It’s the standing leg because that’s what’s holding you up. Which - duh - I feel like that should be common sense. But since I came in knowing nothing, it was a huge yet really cool surprise. My legs are full on jelly after a class

My hero...I could never master pointe...I was in a company but went all against my body mechanics...it's fiercely grueling while making it look effortless

It's so fascinating how they can make something so painful seem so delicate. We see the pretty ballet dancers and we don't even think about how their feet must be hurting. Ballet dancers will always have my admiration. I did ballet for 13 years (I'm 19 so that's most of my life lol) but never felt good enough and stopped because of my very low self-esteem, but I wish I had continued. It was my dream and I gave up :( But I still enjoy watching those beautiful and hardworking ballet dancers do their amazing jobs. This will forever be so special to me

This takes so much skill that so few people recognize. The same can be said for Irish dancers. They are literally taught to kick their own butt with their heel every single time they step. I think it’s amazing how these types of dancers actually pride themselves on having horrible feet. But I get it, it’s a sign of the dedication you have put into your craft. And I have so much respect for it! Also, for men who participate in ballet, they look tiny but can literally spin around on their heels, while holding a woman above their heads. That is peak athleticism, sure there are powerlifters who could lift a woman above their heads. But they are not athletic, they could never get through a dance routine without passing out. Meanwhile, these athletic men, half of their size can lift a woman above their head and spin around multiple times, and then catch her all while diminishing their own aerobic capacity because they are singing the whole time. I would rather fight a slow bulky bodybuilder, then an athletic man who dances for a living. Because that guy can MOVE. A small man who can lift a woman above his head due to peak Athleticism would absolutely beat the shit out of a bulky slow bodybuilder. They would be able to duck and weave and never get hit until the big bruiser was so exhausted that he couldn’t fight any more. Just keep your distance small dudes. You can win a fight but keep the big dude away from you because if he grabs you you are fucked. Just look at Game of Thrones with the small agile guy totally dismantling the mountain. (We love you Pedro Pascal!!). But he got too close. A small man will never win in a fight against the bigger man if the bigger man can close the distance. Keep them at arms length. Dance around with little jabs wearing down their endurance. Do NOT get close. I don’t have any fight training but if a guy who is a jujitsu master at 160 pounds wants to spar, I am fat and out of shape but I am 220 pounds, there are weight classes for a reason, they stand no chance if I can actually pick them up and slam them down. I don’t care how amazing you do a rear, naked choke, if I can pick you up, I can slam you into a wall, or even worse, just plant my feet and fall backwards on top of you you might have skill, but you just got the wind knocked out of you. And you are helpless. Size does matter. I’m not a big dude, but no matter your amount of training, if you weigh 50 pounds less than I do, you are going to get hurt. A solid arm bar means nothing if your opponent can literally pick you up and slam you with all of their body weight into the ground. You’re gonna feel it. It’s going to suck. I’m not proud of being a fat ass but I’m sorry no amount of jujitsu and MMA training is going to save you from a guy who is that much bigger and more powerful than you are. I have been placed in chokehold by jujitsu masters. It was a little bit hard to breathe for about two seconds. My adrenaline kicked in at the threat of not being able to breathe, and my instinct took over and I just threw the dude over my shoulder with my forearm up underneath their forearm trying to choke me. I think it’s bullshit that certain martial arts tell you that you can defend yourself against anyone if you follow them. It’s bullshit. Because in the real world Bruce Lee would be leaving on a stretcher if he fought Tyson Fury. A fat guy. The man has absolutely decimated other fighters who make him look like a fat turd. Why? Because he is bigger than them. I actually can’t stand him because I feel like if you want to compete like that, you are insulting everyone by choosing to be so fucking fat like you don’t give a shit. But apparently he does not need to give a shit, he beats the shit out of other Guys who look like bodybuilders with ease.

Wow! That must be super hard and challenging. No wonder ballerinas are so strong and have to train so hard! I must say, that for us, the public, it is amazing to watch!

I remember getting my first pointe shoes. I was absolutely thrilled! I didn’t realize what torture chambers they are for the feet! My big toe nail turned black and fell off. I wouldn’t trade that time for the world!
