I worked at a tech startup that reminds me a lot of what you're building here. We had a well stocked kitchen and were taken well care of, never paid anywhere close to what a lot of people could earn elsewhere but people stayed for a long time and we attracted far better people than you could have reasonably expected because it was a good place to work and people actually cared about the employees. I think things like the Sainsburys shop will pay back far more than they ever cost you. Easy for it all to go wrong though when the "business people" come in with there spreadsheets and talk about cutting costs, be careful!

I'd take being treated great as an employee and less pay over being treated like another cog and good pay.
@GavinLawrence747
@GavinLawrence747 2 года назад
@@Interknetz I don't disagree, I had a job in the civil service and pay was not great but it was like the garden of eden when it came to hours, healthcare, pension, sick pay etc. I honestly don't mind working like a dog as long as pay is equal or exceeds that effort, as long as it doesn't make me ill physically or mentally i'll work hard but expect to be paid properly for it. At the end of the day its a nice problem to have, some people are treated like shit and don't get paid well at all.....

I've worked for a number of companies where not only do they not provide milk; you have to pay for hot drinks from a shitty Klix vending machine. Company I'm at now; selection of teas, coffees and cold drinks along with snacks and bits, there for everyone to help themselves. At least once a month we get taken out for lunch, or after work of an evening will go out for dinner and a couple drinks... Costs the firm money, but gestures like that mean a lot when everyone works their balls off.

I've worked on streetlights for 7 years now, for doing lantern changes I wouldn't bother with using a grinder, we alway use a reciprocating saw. Don't need a hot works permit and in my eyes safer to use when 10m up in the air over a live lane.
@mfx1

Also cutting bolts that may be under tension can lead to a "ping fuckit!" moment as the bolt suddenly snaps and fly's through the air hopefully not ending up going through someone's windscreen.

We used to use a STHIL saw up in the bucket to remove a really stubborn lantern off a bracket. Most of the time if the grub screws where seized up a few whacks which a lump hammer got them off. I’ve also used a hacksaw on the odd occasion

I absolutely agree with the NO MAIN INSIDE A SHOWER AREA rule...especially with the handheld sprayer...but even a fixed one...if it hits the top of the head it could spray up to the fan! Mind you I am in the US which only has 120VAC in bathroom connections...lights, fans & outlets...usually 15 to 20 amps per breaker...for the water area GFCI sockets. Those stools that squish flat are fricken' awesome...my folks & I got some to have at the Ren-Fair!

Find a local fella that works on cars as a hobby, there's a good chance they have the things to code the battery to the van. Shouldn't cost you much at all, it takes like 2 minutes. For reference, these things cost like £600, we have one. Hell I'd offer to do it for you for £10, but you're a good 180 miles away haha

Working for my company. I'm only supposed to have my own basic tools. The foreman is supposed to supply company tools for doing jobs. But, as someone that likes to be independent on the job. I have all my own tools like cordless roto hammer, bandsaw, drills, impact drivers, multi tool, grinder, pipe benders and all my own testing equipment. Spoke to an openreach guy the other day local to me and he said the van was amazing. He did say if he used the dual carriageway to drive the 4 miles across town, the wind resistance on the ladders reduced the range. But driving through the town there was less wind resistance and loads of regen keeping the range high. The amount of ladders they carry, you’d loose range in a diesel.

Tom, I currently have a Vivaro E works van for British Gas and carry lots of electric and gas meters as well as all the kit. Easily get 150-160 miles off a full battery, average about 2.3-2.5m/kwh. Like all electrics, it depends on where you use them. In cities and towns you'll do more, on motorways you will most likely do fewer miles off a charge.

Cool no worries. Cut a metal grill/mesh? Cool no worries. Cut cable tray, Unistrut (when it's just a 1 off cut, or a very small task)? Cool no worries. Also a quick question: you have any reviews on the Bosch 12v range? I have Milwaukee, but they're ridiculously expensive and I don't fancy the price tag every time I need to replace them.

When I was a MEWP engineer it was always policy to have an emergency decent plan and procedure to inform your work mates that your needing help if stuck in air ... normally it was your work mates whom made it happen .... yeah nice when your 185ft full stick in a 24mpg breeze ... well it had to be checked and wanted for tomorrow But yeah .... Niftylift sold as talking alarm ( probably sourced from RS components) " warning operator needs assistance " maybe you need to fit something like that ? Suppose it all depends on how your emergency decent works on and can it be operated from the basket and can your jack legs be reset from basket and if your carrying too much equipment in the basket for the machine to alarm and freeze and lock out Two ex work mates got killed on mewps a operator driver I knew well had a near miss and lost a bollock hanging from the basket as the pivot pin sheared and only hydraulic pipes and electric cables keeping him suspended till help arrived to get him down .... I had a near miss with a new machine that was sent out faulty or should I say the parameters had been altered somehow on a laptop ? .... so yeah found a better safer job Best advice is always check your machine before use and do safety ground checks / function tests before stepping in that basket to work don't forget always clip on and wear your harness outside of your jacket / coat ... no good keeping your safety cord warm ... yeah and hang your harness on a hook when not in use don't throw it on the floor it needs a daily check too BE SAFE Can see another laminate been made .... in case of emergency crib sheet for side of van at ground level as someone might need to help one day clear safety instructions emergency lowering procedure etc maybe attach them to a road sign near the van ?
