Hey Tom, just for future reference when cutting through steel that thick use a 9 inch grinder and get a disc that is purpose built for the thickness. Grinders are one of the most dangerous tools in construction and you need to be careful not to twist the blade while cutting and make sure there are no chips.

As a person that has sold old coins my best advice with the coins is to wear cloth gloves specially for handling coins as the oil our hands can actually damage and tarnish the coins. Still awesome of a find.

I wanted to watch this the other night but my grandad suffered a huge stroke which led to a brain bleed and unfortunately he went into a coma and peacefully passed today at 12.50, been watching your videos for years now and honestly Tom your videos took my mind off it tonight so I could get myself into a better state before I slept. Tom when you rebuild the house make another safe underground, place those coins inside the safe with some from this era along with a photo of what the house and road currently look like and throw away the key! Let someone else have the same experience you’ve just had in years to come.

So I'm in a coin discord, and some people in it know about the coins you've found. From the screenshot I got from the vlog, they say they are/look like gold sovereigns, .9367 gold. Someone else said they could potentially be worth what a ¼ounce of gold. But could be more because of the age. I'm not saying this information is wrong, but im not saying it's right either. It's definitely best to take them to a coin specialist and get their opinion

@@elliotstoney from the size they certainly look like full sovereigns. unsure for that age, but current ones are just shy of 8 grams weight of which 7.3 is solid gold which is easy way to tell, worth about 300 quid or so purely on the gold content, however the age and collectability for something that age is going to change that for sure. for reference also, they are still classed as legal tender, so there`s no capital gains tax on sovereigns either!

Epic find! Both my grandads collected coins. One of my grandads had an enormous collection. He had a whole desks worth of old, old coins in mint condition. So I'm very familiar with old coins. Get them seen and figure out how much they're worth! I know people have been saying already, but get them graded 100%!! Legendary ✌

This is a British tradition! you put coins from the year you moved in around the house somewhere. The guy who owened my childhood home used 2 pennies as washers that held the outside floodlight in place. Pretty cool.

Don't you just love asbestos dust in the morning 😣😣😣 Tom chances are the old tiles under the vinyl have a high possibility that they contain asbestos. Especially considering the boiler flue is an asbestos flue. Word of advice don't grind away at it 😂😂

Coins are only valuable as long as there is someone that values them. They’ll only ever be worth face value to the bank, but worth much more to a collector.

Frame the coins and take one or two pictures of the house, one from the outside and one of the safe room to go with it before you start to renovate and construct the house. That way you can keep it as a memory! Definitely worth more to have the memories of it than the actual value of the coins :)

They are called Sovereigns usually 22ct gold. A lot of the older generation have them put into rings and necklaces. Awesome find!!

I'm an amateur gold collector and I have to say those coins are an amazing find. They are in really good condition which is rare to find. So long as they aren't fake (which they certainly don't appear to be) will be worth more than their gold value because of their historic significance. I would also do what you suggested and keep them. They will never lose value, only gain more.

Nice find some gold half sovereigns, make sure you don’t clean them as it will devalue them. As coin collector don’t like clean coins.

I learnt this the hard way, being a young welder at college I just used to use them without a face cover and bang one snapped and luckily missed me but ever since then I can tell you I did wear one 🤣

that's what happens when you use a grinder haha. i used to go through 8 blades at a time cutting through stainless steel pipes. btw, it's better to go back and forth rather than just cutting in one spot.

My guess is half sovereign rather than full sovereign - couple of mm difference in diameter between a half and full... hard to actually work out/get size perspective from a video but I reckon they look closer to 19mm than 22mm! Hope I'm wrong though so they are double the value!
