I used to work at Domino’s pizza in Tustin back in 1989 and actually went inside this huge hangar a few times to deliver pizzas and it was really hard to find the person who ordered it because it is such a huge place with many planes and helicopters. But the marines loved the pizzas 😂

I witnessed Vietnam soldiers coming home here several times in the 70s. I loved watching the fighter jets coming in from their carriers back n forth. I did some firefighting schooling here in the 70s. fire suppression

This isn't the Marine Corps Air Station that had ANY fighter jet operations. That would have been MCAS, El Toro. Tustin was called LTA. And LTA was/is Lighter Than Air, a nod to the Blimp use of the original base purpose. Up until the base was closed it was EXCLUSIVELY used for Helicopter operations.

@acgillespie Yes, the freeway interchange of the 5 and 405 was the fixed wing MCAS El Toro. Now it is what is called "The Great Park." The near by MCAS is the one that 🔥. It was called by nearly everyone LTA. Most people didn't call it Tustin even. This area is called "Legacy Field" or "The District," now. I didn't mean to jump on your neck. Just wanted to point out the possible error from the MSM description.

The irony of this fire is the water table is super high in that area so a well could have been dug and tapped to keep water on stand by. During construction, they had to dig deeper foundations to circumvent the high water table. Really sad how California land is up for grabs to the highest bidder, which usually is from out of country…

This excuse of “flared up again” is used by fire fighter’s to let it burn … It far easier to demo when burned to the ground than deconstruct half burned structures…. They do that in the city as well.. They slow walk response, use unsafe execuse among other reasons… Proving fire department intentionally slow walked response would be difficult and they know that.
