Nearly 63 is the highest test weight we have had in some of our wheat here in southwestern Missouri on winter wheat, but that was a one-time thing a few years ago.

Wow! When you said that the test weight got up to 65, I could hardly believe my ears, truly astronomical! Here in southwest Missouri, one year we had some of our wheat test nearly 63, but never had we had any as high as y'all did. Usually here, a high test weight is between 61 and 62.

How about those tiny North Dakota approaches to fields. I was raised in North Dakota and they were the bane of our existence. It is because the farmers were too cheap to buy two culverts when installing approaches. We spent most of our time baling ditch hay and hand loading it onto flat trailers in the old days.

Southeast Iowa was good this year. 62-63# and a lot of 90-110 bushel yield. All that straw could be because they put on too much nitrogen. Nitrate creates excessive growth but that robs energy from the plant that could have been used to produce grain. It doesn’t have to be tall to yield good. 👍

Hayden, behives on sunflowers are mostly for the nectar which gets turned into honey. But always depends on the variety of the sunflower and moisture in the ground whether or not sunflowers produce much honey. The area your in now with all the clover is the best honey producing plant but I see the beekeepers got in waaaaay too late so will probably have a lot of empty boxes to pull off this fall. You're welcome! 😊

Perhaps it being a wet spring helped with Nebraska wheat. Or as you mentioned concerning the straw, the variety. Funny, we don't hear from mom when she loses the light game. Has she given up? Where are the Texas flags? Not this year I guess.

because there is no wild bees because varroa would have wiped them out, most farmers around the world need to get bees in to pollinate canola, peas ,sunflower,, lupins, almonds etc, otherwise you may not get a harvestable crop.

Hayden, Is the following correct? The procedure used to determine the reference test weight per bushel of grain is to weigh one dry quart of the grain on a suitable scale that is designed to multiply the weight by 32, since there are exactly 32 quarts to a dry bushel. Therefore your QUART weighed 2.03125 LBS?

That was not a bale spike. That came off of Baler teeth at pick up hay I mean straw whatever. On The pick up real. The bale spike is much much longer much thicker. Used to pick up big bales. No offense meant you’re doing a great job young man.

It’s actually called a pickup tooth on a baler. But I know nothing about baling… and it looks like a spike… so it was a bale spike to me haha.
