Although Harris's supporters are encouraged by her upward trajectory, the Electoral College will determine the winner of the presidency. Results in a few states-Pennsylvania, Georgia, Nevada, Wisconsin, Michigan, and North Carolina-where polling averages place the race within a few points of each other, are therefore extremely important. The ability to select between the starkly different directions that a Trump or Harris triumph would take for the US and the rest of the world might lie with as few as a few hundred thousand people.
