Fires on ships are a normal occurrence, wouldn't be suprised if it was caused by a NASCO worker, we had one blow himself up on the Tarawa back in 2003. Welding on something with gas inside.

Was just on the midway 2 days ago glad that the sailors are recovering my prayers go out to all and I’m hoping they find the actual reason to how it started. Can’t wait to go to basic soon and be in the navy my prayers to anyone affected by the fire

As a naval and merchant marine sailor I pray for success in defeating a most formidable enemy on a ship. And I am grateful that all personnel are safe. Quick recovery for the injured sailors.

Looks like a Hull Loss; totaled. Reminds me of the U S Navy Fast Attack sub that was deliberately set on fire so a worker would not have to work on a weekend. That was a total loss. Why no heavy duty fire-fighting equipment standing by near the piers? Those fire fighting boats should have some type of attachment to get hoses on-deck. Big changes coming after this loss............. I spent seven years in the Submarine Force and the number one enemy was always fire danger; not the reactor nor weapons loads.

Explosions in Iran and now a fire on our Navy ship

I read these knuckleheads that have all these comments on fighting fires and on personnel. With 16 injured and no idea of injuries. With small skeleton crew. After explosion save the sailors and it is not easy. Most people don't understand a major emergency weather on ship or land. Probably heavy smoke and flames finding and recovering injured sailors. Not knowing how many are injured. Getting a suppression team together. Major confusion, screaming, teams of stretcher carriers. Never served in the military but went to war rite out of high school. Got married after graduation and married 18yrs. I have one tie to the US NAVY. I was part of the team that designed and built the first navy high speed reduction gearing for gas turbines in US Navy warships. In the early 80s worked for GE gear plant Lynn MA. I machined the prototype reduction gearing for testing purposes. Myself and one other guy machined the main body that received the gearing and other parts. ARLEIGH BURKE GUIDED MISSILE DESTROYER DDG 51. Sorry if i miss spelled or identified in error. Every US NAVY PERSONAL AND MILITARY PERSONNEL i thank you for your service past and present. For all armchair firefighters please put your Tonka firetrucks away. Moms not home and go down to basement and while there put wet clothes in drier or grow a pair and enlist.

Could this have been started by a defective Lithium Ion battery that ended up inside on of the boxes on the Vehicle Storage Deck? Those things will suddenly turn blazingly hot right before they burst into flames, and then the burn extremely hot. They’ve set people’s homes on fire from bursting. They’re also the cause of a fatal commercial airline crash in the Everglades. So that might be something to be wary of during your investigation.

Shame on the navy to try and scapegoat a jr enlisted for your failure to maintain standard. The US Navy is legendary but needs to be better to its personnel.
