I’m so exhausted 😩 exasperated with all of it.. i design from 6pm when I get home from work well into 2-3am in the morning.. then Etsy have the cheek to also tell me I pulled my ads too soon.. just another easy way for them to get at least $300 fresh dollars for nothing at the end of the month and throw me the odd sale.. I’m fed up of it all.. the changes the BS.. sorry don’t mean to lower the energy but I really hope an alternative to Etsy gets created soon..these monopolies need to learn some hard lessons.!!!
@@SoferiaNebruin 💯 huni Just spread / diversify your talent and produces - try if you can to set up a shopify or your own website to monetise your talent because at least you will own your client information and contact list.. you’ll definitely have more control over it. If you have an existing client base .. to be very fair to the Brand creators team they also advocate that we do this and their advice is always on point. I like that they are experienced and have been through this journey with Etsy and definitely appear to be on our side in terms of how best to navigate this space. Start building your email list - I’m about to do this by building out landing pages to direct traffic to a commerce site and I’ll keep Etsy up in the background but I won’t be giving them my all like previously.. my energy is definitely going to building my own commerce site. I haven't ordered from etsy in a couple of yrs. I reinstalled the app today. Tried to find something I'd ordered before. Lounge dresses, thin material, multicolored patchwork design, flowey. No where to be found. The format has changed. Expensive! Where is the old etsy we once loved? I Uninstalled!
@@mj48187 it may sound fair to those it can benefit from it. But it’s unfair to the shops who have really worked hard to build successful listings over the years who may now have many of their listings no longer shown very often in search. It’s like punishment to us for no reason. People might equate established shops as being lucky because we’re making sales; but truth is there’s no luck involved and we all had to start from the very bottom like everyone else.
Also I DO NOT understand the concept of price being involved in algorithms…. When I go to Etsy I EXPECT to pay more for unique items. I don’t want Walmart quality showing up all the time and that has been a huge frustration in shopping Etsy.

I'm very happy to hear that they will be giving smaller shops a greater chance to show up on search pages. I sell jewelry on Etsy and when I do a search for that style of jewelry, the first few pages are saturated with items primarily from this one seller who is dominating, but I find it so unfair. It seems like the rich just get richer while the rest of us suffer, and none of our efforts mean anything, so I'm happy they're doing something about that.
How all my coworkers use Etsy app is like social media. Scrolling, favoriting...I think Etsy should allow comments and sharing on their platform on items... 'get commerce social' should be their slogan
As a buyer is a good change. When you look somehing specific as mom shirt all of them are the same, nirsers, teachers and so on. As a seller I think if we do something different we can have a better rank.....ny thoughts
I think flooding/diversifying the search is going to confuse the shopper and not show what they are actually wanting to see or what they are searching for
I figured they were doing something because my sales have suddenly increased over the past couple of weeks. I run a digital art shop with only 500 listings. Everything is high quality, takes time to produce, so I list in slow motion. Can't compete with these shops throwing up any old thing at a rapid pace. I don't care now that I'm outperforming shops with 4,000 listings. Haha I'm not usually a fan of Etsy messing with things, but this one may work out well for some people.
I’m definitely nervous about this no shop can have more than 2 listings on a search results page. I worked very hard to build up a strong niche over the years; which is recommended to do for brand longevity. Currently I could dominate a search page for specific term with maybe 5 of my items on a search page. But when it’s changed, for this example I just gave; that’ll take away 60% of my chances to get my items seen. What also makes me nervous is “we’re not going to show items that are similar on the same page and only pick 1 of them”. Well what things are they basing similar items off of? Tags, titles, attributes? Because items may share similar tags but look completely different
That’s funny, I just watched more of your video and you said you think this will be good for niched shops, but I speculate it’s going to be a negative impact for them. To me I take this all as Etsy wants to show buyers a bigger variety of shops and to limit too much being recommended from 1 shop. But we shall see how this goes
I am the only person on Etsy to sell a particular item, in various colors, sizes, etc. When a buyer searches for my product, they are also shown pillows, toys, vintage clothing and other things "maybe" made from the same fiber, but not at all the same item being searched. Still not convinced that the bots know enough to help buyers or sellers, and its been YEARS.
@@ecouturehandmades5166 yes exactly! It may sound like a good thing for similar items not to be shown, but I don’t feel confident that bots will execute it well/correctly. I feel like for it to be done correctly, the system would have to do image searches to compare the actual design and look of every item on that search page; which would be way too complicated for the system to do. So I’m guessing they’ll base it off of tags, and they’ll take away listings from the search page that actually don’t look similar at all.
I think you're confusing two different things. ONE is direct search, where they are going to be diversifying the results, the other is the move to more of a "suggestion" or recomendation engine than a search engine. That HEAVILY favors niche shops because they have a much higher likelyhood of hitting the things that a suggestion engine would be looking for. Go watch a youtube video or two from the same channel... You'll start seeing that channel (and the overarching theme) pop up all over your youtube experience. Why? Because they know you're extremly likely to watch more content around the topic or from that creators. A suggestion based engine on Etsy would funciton in a very similar way.
What I’m worried about is this, I’ve been on Etsy since 2010. It’s never been fantastic but good enough for me to stay home and not have to get another job. But this said, my items are all unique and one of a kind I don’t carry dozens of one item that are “best sellers“. I’ve been a star seller for two years solid and I haven’t seen that that has helped me at all and that’s what the algorithm should favor! I don’t know why that never gets mentioned. So I am not excited about this at all because of the fact that my conversions have to start from scratch every time I put something new up. And I have 2 print on demand shops that are not producing much at all, but I have lots of favorites.every single day. So there are no conversions at all on those products so I guess that will kill that market too.
I hear you one about of a kind items. Google back burner’s them too over multiples of the same item. Like you, I’ve been with etsy since 2009 and its my largest income producer but in the past few years I have almost completely ditched my one of a kind artwork listings and instead continue to produce what keeps me relevant, my made to order with production models I create over and over again. I’m only just this month making one of a kind items again and don’t have much hope for online sales. I will be doing 4 art festivals this fall/winter where my one of a kind mobiles and paintings shine. I would rather be an artist/artisan without relying on production work but I also need to pay the bills.
Reducing duplicates on a single search page…… um, does that mean that paid ads and organic listings won’t show on the same page? Will this give paid ads more exposure?
I feel you!! Something just came to mind reading your comment. When something sells, instead of creating a new listing can you just put the new item on the old listing and change the photos all the info? It would appear as a restock? I imagine there are down falls to this but again it just popped in my mind so haven't fully thought about the idea. Just sharing and good luck!!!
I used to do this but a number of years ago google downgraded items with a quantity of 1 in search. Etsy soon followed suit. My sales fell off the scale for a couple years until I added a quantity of 5 or more to my production mobiles. Once I did that my sales picked back up.
This is Etsy we are talking about. I guarantee wherever they suggest we are lacking and could get better buyer reach or potential sales will be completely irrelevant to what we are selling and who are customers are.
The one thing I see missing in the recommendation thing is that when buying gifts they are for different people and may vary drastically from their previous spending habits.
Sometimes. The best way to think about it is RU-vid. They do a great job at suggesting the "right" thing for someone to "watch next" based on their previous history, even if they watch all kinds of different videos :)
@@brandcreatorsI totally get what you're saying, but I think the difference in what you are saying versus what Jessica is saying is that we don't typically go onto youtube to look for videos for other people to watch, we do so to watch things that interest us (and therefore the trend can become more easily predictable). However, when we are on Etsy, we are often looking for gifts for others and therefore our searches are far less predictable as they are geared toward so many different people with any number of random interests.
No (outside of testing), what you're more likely seeing is the ramp of traffic that typically starts in the Middle of August and keeps running into Q4 :)
I'm a little confused about how this works for Vintage sellers. Since my items are all different Mid Century Modern Vintage, land other people are selling the same items, so they are saying they are going to reduce the views by 70% with people selling the same thing? That will hurt vintage sellers from my pov since we do sell same stuff since most vintage collectible items are not one of a kind as those fall more into the art category. For instance a friend of mine and I both have the same vintage casserole dish on our site, so does one of us get 70% less view?
These changes must be why my shop has suddenly ground to a halt after 10 years. My items were very well represented on the first page. I don't know how to negotiate these changes.
Hello, I have a question. Let's assume that I drew an existing device such as a car or a computer in vector graphics and when printing this graphic, on a T-shirt, for example, I signed it under the graphic, i.e. the object that I drew. So my graphic shows a Macintosh computer from 1984. Can I put the inscription 1984 - Apple Macintosh 128K under the graphic on the T-shirt?
I believe what’s happening is your item will show up only so many times because they’re rotating through them. Spreads out the sales, but limits the each individual items sales potential.
@@brandcreators I understand, but there has to be a way that they are getting more smaller shops sales. That way has to be by showing them more, which means other shops are being shown less (which is fine). Let's face it, with millions of small shops, they have quite a supply of great listings and products that are likely to sell. Make no mistake, Etsy can pick and choose what will sell because then not only control what's shown, but also WHO it's shown to. Etsy knows who's a hot buyer and who's a window shopper. So, in order for a large number of smaller shops to get more sales, they have to be spreading out the views to the hot prospects.
They have to do something like this. I'll randomly get a flurry of activity on a specific item for a few days that previously felt invisible, then nothing, then same thing on another item. It just feels unnatural
Right now items that have the most sales show up in search leading to all similar items being presented to a buyer. The new way would show items based on some criteria that I'm not sure how they are going to get the criteria but that will determine a score and quality grade for the item listing and that's what buyers will start to see even if that particular item hasn't sold many times or at all.
Well...I have had MY WORST MONTH in August 2024 after 2 years. Down in sales 85%. I have a small shop with just 900 sales. Needless to say I am disgusted. NOTHING they are doing is helping me. Quite the contrary.
if you have an eBay shop it gives suggestions and data on what to improve and conversion rates etc, i think it would be good for etsy and also give new or smaller sellers more opportunity to get sales
I have a question, if I’m an artist is my art style the niche? Or should I still choose a niche for the stuff I sell on my shop? All my art would probably have some cohesive theme but I know I might not always want to stick with one
I am a small shop and is feeling the adverse effect of this. I have one major product type in my shop but I list in different images based on color. This did get me more visibility and sales so now they are limiting how many time listings from a shop shows up for a search, it greatly reduced visits and sales. I've had maybe 3 sales in 19 days when I'm used to getting about 2-3 every day or every other day.
My sales have dropped drastically over the last 2 months, including my best seller that has been pretty consistently selling for 3 or so years. It has severely hurt my shop i believe. :(
So do I understand that they rank by likelyhood of conversion, but even if you have multiple listings that convert better than competitors, they will only give you "x" amount of real estate in the search results? Didn't they do this back around 2015/2016 with the other guy? i.e. you got one listing per page of search results, which they eventually walked back.
4:06 to me it sound like big sellers would increase their sellers and small / new stores would be way n the back. There is good chance that customer would review top 10 product and make their purchase.
Actually it would give smaller stores MORE opportunity (and their initial tests support that). The current focus on conversion metrics does give a slight edge to larger stores (or smaller stores with lots of sales on certian listings).
Most big sellers on etsy us AI advertising. And are mass production companies over seas. They are the same shops on Amazon. Dozens of shop names, same drop shippers.
My somewhat uneducated take on this is that, as a small shop, I'm hearing something I can relate to, that has perhaps a small glimmer of changes that could mean something to us and not just throw one more wet blanket on possibility.
What's a good conversion rate for a tiny shop? (Sub 10 listings). Mine is 6.9% but does that even matter with so few listings? Should I disregard this data until I get more listings?
As a seller if you wanna make piece of bread, divorce thing you can do is open the account with all day. Do they just suspend you? It looks like they have nothing to do to just every day suspend you.
Why do Etsy omit the audio from videos? How much extra data would the audio channel take up, it may even just be muted.. 15 seconds is a long time to narrate/curate..
Knowing Etsy, things will change again in 3 months tops. There’s no point getting used to anything really because they’ll never tell us what we need to do to show up in search. It’ll always be super vague, no matter how good your SEO is or whatever. Anyway I hope this won’t ruin it for us
@brandcreators thanks for video. I have problem with Josh sentance, we will show you what you menth, not what you typed. I guess based on previous purchases and searches. Well, if Etsy is 80% gift platform personalized search is not good. Why...I was buying gift for my niece and she is teen, very boho, crochet, flowers, nature. After that I needed gift for my friends for moving in into new home. And thay are very modern, tech, minimalisam, scani style. Totally oposite than my last seaches and purchase. If Etsy algorithm is not going to respect what my seach query is, thay will show me boho stuff and that is not what I want for my friends gift. Or resalts would be mixed, algorithm will say, lets show her more boho, flowers, natur stuff. Eventually, I will loose patience and I will not have time to weed out all stuff thay are showing me and I will give up. And I guess I would not be the only one.
How would this help someone in an niche, most sellers, because they don't want you on the front page a bunch lol? Most people only have a small amount of times that sell a lot, of they rotate that it could be horrible
a niche is something people are interested in (e.g. fishing). If they move to a suggestion engine like they're talking about it would be a HUGE boom for niche shops, because people who buy things like what they sell would be suggested the product. Exactly the same way youtube works :)

The word niche is a french word that means dog house and it’s pronounced Neesh. I know I’m annoying with this but just in case someone is still wondering, I speak French and just wanted to mention it 😂
I just need Etsy to give me my money - instead of pretending they are going to give it to me when I have sent all my orders with tracking - I do and they don't ... not sure why they have decided to just hold it for themselves and make interest out if it. Not a new shop, not one complaint, all orders on time and tracked. This is not the best of Etsy, I have stopped adding stock, as I am literally selling and receiving no money.
The Algorithm is an issue. Not everyone wants a cute pumpkin when they search Halloween. The same main stream pumpkin makes me... pumpkin pie my creativity! I would love to see diversity in designs. If your design resembles 3 to 4 pages of similar designs /clip art ... well, get sent to the back of the line.
