How does the Big Ten getting into Florida NOT make financial sense?
@jansonroberts2616
@jansonroberts2616 Месяц назад
Who said it didn’t make sense? More importantly, why does the B1G or SEC have to expand again right now? They just expanded and have both signed new media deals. They want to focus on these new changes and how it will impact and affect their conferences before any consideration for more expansion. This rush by FSU and Clemson isn’t shared by the B1G or SEC. Too early and too many legal entanglements.
@heartbreak25
@heartbreak25 Месяц назад
They never said it doesn't make sense. They're saying it's not a priority. Joining the B1G makes financial sense for ND. But it's not a priority. Hence, it's taken longer than most of us imagined and still not inevitable.

@@heartbreak25 FSU earned over $130m for the ACC. How many teams in the B1G earned 100m? You could count them on the fingers of one hand and have fingers left over.
@heartbreak25
@heartbreak25 Месяц назад
@@505premoto LOL! Is that a serious question? To quickly answer it, ALL of them. You sure you want to count? OSU, UM, Nebraska, and PSU all earned more than $200 million last year. Only nine teams total earn more than $200 million. Rutgers, yes, Rutgers earned $110 million last year. So that's your five. Want more? Michigan State and Indiana earned more athletic revenue than FSU last year. So that's seven B1G schools I can count before getting to FSU. You know who else earns more than FSU? Virginia! LOL! Take off your football binoculars and see what's going on across the board.

As a Noles fan I would be totally happy to be in the Big 12. We need to be in a conference with as many Large (>30k) Enrollment as possible. That is the only way to reach the most eyeballs, especially one like the Big 12 that is nearly nationwide (especially w the addition of 4+ ACC schools).

@matt8495 Месяц назад
If ESPN doesn’t extend the media rights contract, it will end in 2027 and ACC schools will look to the other power conferences for new homes. The B1G has room for 2 current ACC members. The SEC has room for 2-4 current ACC members. The Big 12 has room for 4-8. Once 10 conference members (a majority of schools) have found new homes, they can meet and dissolve the ACC under NC law. The GOR disappears. The exit fees disappears. The lawsuits disappears.

@@FloridaMan-em3gk I think you're being very pragmatic. All of this started because ACC couldn't pay the same money as the SEC and B1G. If you can get relatively higher payouts from the Big 12, while having better access to the playoffs, why not take it? I think it becomes an ego thing for other FSU fans to rub shoulders with the SEC and B1G schools. Call me skeptical of all of this. Why? Anything can change very quickly. For example the PAC was going to stay intact ( less UCLA, USC and Colorado) until UW President Ana Mari Cauce changed her mind and jumped to the Big 10. Let’s see what happens when and if Clemson & Florida St leave the ACC before saying the Big 10 & SEC are not interested.

@KeepChoppin
@KeepChoppin Месяц назад
@@505premoto Unfortunately for some, that's going to be a major hurdle. With the new B1G there are going to be clear "party lines," if you will, amongst different segments of university presidents. There will be the west coast faction, the traditional power faction, and the less competitive faction. The bigger these conferences get, the less unified they will be. That's going to be a major hurdle for further expansion. It's going to be hard to get a unified front, unless there is a clear and overwhelming financial benefit for all.

Heard this information earlier this month. Clemson never will be in the B1G. The fit is wrong and that Florida State was a long shot. Was told that AAU is still very important to the B1G schools. That image was also important to them. I brought this up in the chat on both here and College Football Mafia and was laughed at over and over. Even Moen dismissed me on the AAU angle.
