Join us for the Adepticon Reveal LIVE on Twitch: www.twitch.tv/thehonestwargamer Starting at 2AM GMT / 10PM EST we'll be noodling around with chat for an hour before the reveal kicks off! What do you guys think is coming for Old World?
I got through the entire discussion about the existence (or not) of oat before noticing that I was watching the twitch vod for *this* video rather than the Adepticon Live stream 😆 In appreciation of Val, I offer this oat factoid (fictoid?): There's a traditional Danish song about oat *written from the point of view of oat* by beloved poet Jeppe Aakjaer. The song is called 'I am oat'. Here's a video of it being performed in our "national" concert hall: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-FJhefDOjiYg.html Again, this song is about oat - written from the pov of oat.
1:07:30 Sorry Rob, but those are 101% Common Trolls. They were released after Battle for Skull Pass to match the single plastic troll in that box to make a unit of three, and were always sold as common trolls. The stone trolls were still available separately at the same time. Love the show guys!
Yes, the stone trolls are the blue ones, think Val's got them mixed up too. Surprised they're selling the grey ones as they're rubbish compared to the others!
@@andrewj1754Battle For Skull pass box came out with a single common Troll in it - sculpted in the same style as these 2 above and soon after BFSP these 2 were released so as people could field a full unit of 3 Common Trolls all of different sculpts. They are indeed common trolls. The 6 metal blue and 3 metal green trolls coming to made to order (who knows when, it's made to order they could literally plonk those up already not make us wait an eternity to wait even longer) are your stone and river trolls respectively from the era.
Regarding the Plague of Rust stuff, also check the rules for 'Shield' and 'Barding' (both on pg 221 I think). "A model that carries a shield improves its armour value by 1." and "A model that rides a barded mount improves its armour value by 1." So if Plague of Rust's "the target enemy unit suffers a -2 modifier to its armour value" also applies to Ward and Regen 'armour values', we'd have to accept that shields and barding would as well (as would Trollhide Trousers). Base 4+ Lady save for Bretonnian Knights here we come! Would love for Plague of Rust to be included in the next faq.
It is CRAZY to see that statement about the scope of the game has grown! I can imagine that leadership at GW let this go out as a trial balloon, and now it's looking like the game has legs. Rob, you called it, mate. Looks like GW has a hit on its hands!!
@@Iron_Wyvern loe is fine i want the minis to be actually buyable so i dont have to spend a thousand bucks when they release to buy it all at once, bc nobody knows when and if they will be back in stock....thats the only thing that keeps me from buying into old world atm
I am glad that Ogres are back in the Orc and Goblin list. They were in the list in 4/5th ed. Hopefully they'll be put back into the Empire army along with Halflings, and Dwarfs when that Journal comes out.
I think every oldhammer nerd has different old models that they love and want to buy, and ones that they find goofy and outdated. So I'm hoping everyone can be happy wjth the wide variety of older models that are returning, since making new kits seems to be very rare so far
I honestly like the "crappy" old models. They have a charm, and that charm is what drew me to them back in the 90's. I have been digging out my old orcs and gobos. Allot of them have aome atrocious paint jobs🤣
I usually watch these on my tv thats not signed into any accounts but i thought id get off my arse , grab my phone to thank you both for your outstanding work 👍✌️
Can I say I was happy we got 2 Old World articles where GW didnt kick us in the teeth at the end with some PR. Like the Kislev/Cathay, Legacy Armies, etc announcements.
They should try and always have bad news to make fans angry. Like “during this period of time the Empire is riddled with plague and all of their units must remain 6 inches apart or they take a panic test.”
Great talk guys, I'd like to give a big shout out to the Highland Miniatures Orcs & Gobbos range as well. They just released a ton of steppe gobbos that are the HD version of the classic wolf riders aestethic. Their Savage Orc range is simply beautious.
I consider myself pretty lucky to be an orc n goblin player and to have stumbled across this. I’m literally building models in my nerd corner. Keep it up guys
I laughed at the 10am start time, with my normal schedule I have been up at least 5 hours. I definitely understand the concept - but it's funny for all of us who do start our day early.
Love the show as ever. May it long continue. I am currently working on my wood elf army (look forward to the deep dive), but I am seriously addicted again that I'm planning either empire or skaven next. Very popular once again at my local club with about 12 players, some new some returning a real buzz for Old World again. 😊
Something that keeps coming up for me; the answer is RAW vs RAI it seems but, is damage from miscasts magical? There is a lot of fluff text about all the magical energy going wrong but rules wise, the damage comes from the roll on the miscast table. Nowhere on that table does it say the hits have magical attacks. Are ethereal units immune to damage from miscasts?
I would heavily argue that we should play it as magic damage. It is no mundane explosion caused. And anyone being hardball about it? He/she would drop waaay down on the list of people I would like to play with. In a tournament I would accept it as non magical if the opponent wanted it. But I would dock his sportmansship score! 😅
Should also mention that since the river trolls are made to order... And your supposed to make a whole troll army... The scope of the game has truly... Expanded
@ 1:37:28 We actually got a photo of the unreleased Dwarfen Shieldbearer sprue and alas, it doesn't match the teaser and rumour engine images. So this is ceratinly a new sculpt.
My conversion I've always wanted to do but will never justify the cost or have any use for has always been this Goblin Shaman and the The Mouth of Mork Vulture as Teclis. Then just make a Kruleboys as lumineth army.
Absolutely making a troll army, ordering all 9 made to order, getting the ones not made to order, i already have a hag. Always wanted those trolls as a kid. Absolutely going to find some 3D print option to fill it out more if it makes sense in the list. I'll probably eventually make a massive waaaaagh! with all my themed armies combined.
There is absolutely no way that they're going to make Plague of Rust work the way it works RAW if they've properly caught that issue. It doesn't matter how prevalent Wards and Regens are, that would make Plague of Rust something every army that can get it needs and thereby completely warp the game given how powerful that it would be. There is just no logical way it's going to left that way if it's caught.
I had based a bunch of black orcs on rounds for AoS but now I might cut them off and order the AoS start collecting with night gobbos and squigs. Heck, I got two starter boxes worth of AoS orcs too and I can scratch build a doom diver
Instead of only a Goregrunta as a stand-in for a boar chariot, what we need is one orc standing on a small plank with wheels behind it holding some reigns and pretending to be in control xD
Apparently the Ogres are available as mercenaries (so they fit in that up to 20% slot in grand army lists). Quite happy to use them as I have 8 from my 4th edition days, where they were massively overpriced. Hopefully they'll be more useful in the Old World.
Sorry if this is an inappropriate question, but does anyone have an idea when the tangible rule book will be mass produced and available again? I am not a pdf guy, and I don’t want Bretonnian or tomb kings minis. I just want a rule book. 🤪
Hey Folks, probably missed this somewhere, but do multiple ward saves stack? Hoping they don't as it gets a bit obnoxious rolling an armour save then two ward saves just take a wound off something lol.
I feel sorry for them. Before they came out the first time the ogres that we pretty much always saw were the Goodwin ones from the mid-80s* which they were always going to be inferior to and now they've come out again and there are lots of misguided people around who prefer the modern ones. I really like the standard bearer (which I've got) and the one with the spike and axe (which I haven't). Looks like you probably have to buy the lot or nothing though? *There had been Marauder ones that I don't really like and some Citadel Bob Olley ones that I do in between, but it was (rightly) always the Goodwin ones that you'd see in White Dwarf or whatever.
@@PRAISE_HASHUT Well I suppose there has to be one person who rates Marauder Ogres over the Jes Goodwin ones! Then again your name suggests you might be the sort of wrong-headed person who prefers big hat Chaos Dwarves to the vastly superior Little Chaos Warriors that preceded them... More seriously (obviously it's each to their own) I do like the Marauder Captain who was a separate release, he's great, just not really the MM41 troopers. Don't much like their more regular ogres (MM42) either at least not relative to some others. Never seen their 'Giant Ogres' in the flesh though from pictures they look good.
@@ClydeMillerWynant Don’t get me wrong, I love the early Chaos Dwarfs as much as the next, but with a few exceptions they’re essentially just dwarf chaos warriors. The big hats are where it’s at for that truly wild, excessive aesthetic, completely mad mix of influences. Jes’ Ogres are beautiful, but you can’t beat the juxtaposition of seeing hulking brutes in landsknecht puffy sleeves, mad hats and feathers!!
@SquareBasedOldWorld p161. need a unit strength of over 5 to cause panic when destroyed. that lone razorgor at 23:33 would not have caused panic when it was wiped out as it is a warbeast and only has a unit strength of 1. worth noting as there are a decent number of units with less than 5 unit strength that are now way better chaff
The dwarfs really, really need something that gives them more mobility. I hope they release those tanks for them. I am concerned my mates who main dwarfs may get disillusioned with the game. They also just announced some weird contraption for Blood Bowl dwarfs which could be easily translated into an old world unit.
Great show as always. The old models have there place for their simple details that make for easier painting. Yeah it does not have the details that modern kits have but let’s face it all that detail is daunting for a new person to paint. Metals for that matter take the time & annoys out of assembling plastic kits for R&F models. Each to their own but there is a lot to be said for models that are easy to assemble, streamlined look and minimal details for painting.
@@VoidBornScum this. we need some ridden monster rule changes imo. I think : ridden monster allways uses their own saves would go a long way. Maybe some points need to be reduced but this would greatly help.
We do have to be careful with these boxes because it's clear the launch has sold super super well, but... when boxes like the O&G battalion are so unappealing, and ranges like beastmen could be a bit of a flop, there's some risk of us being too negative and creating the appearance of damp demand. Especially when the square base community at large is so full of printing
hey guys. I know this book is not manditory to play. but my questin is if you have the core rules and this book is the ravenous hordes book still manditory? or, will the core book and arcane journal be enough?
Stone trolls are the blue ones & grey are the common ones…the grey ones where never “common” compared to the river & stone trolls (down to the old rules)
I think the troll army is going to be way too inconsistent to be viable and I am 100% going to bring one to the table. They look like so much fun to play even if they are stupid most of the time
I love growing my scope. Hope when it springs up they replace the Tomb King horses that are TRASH. or they add in a sprue to make the ponies prettier. (that will never happen)
Excuse me for offtopic. But now I’m thinking, how trustworthy can GW be? For example, now in ToW there are options for “traditional” Savage Orcs and Night Goblins. Are there any guarantees that they will not be purged altogether in the next edition of the rules? "Lore" is not carved in the rock as we all know.
I think Savage Orcs are probably being shelved on account of them being a not-so-great ooga-booga type trope. Which they get away with just by being bad ass Orcs. Don't get me wrong, I love them... but I could understand why maybe they should be reimagined or left in the lore. As for Night Gobbos - I'd say they're here to stay. I don't see why they wouldn't.
What possibly could they have done to make this project successful? It doesn't have a single sigmarine in it. They didn't even light their world on fire and abandon it. Quick, figure out what they're doing to make us money.
RAW makes sense at competitive events and is utter cancer in small local communities where everyone knows one another. A lot of the pushback you guys are getting is because a lot of people are pretty much garage gamers, and they're far less interested in playing the rules 100% accurately than they are having a subjectively good time with their group of friends.
I remember we used to call the mail order trolls at GW to settle disputes amongst us "garage gamers." Having a reasonable ruling ready to go doesn't hurt anyone.
I am disappointed with the orc & goblin battalion. I’d have preferred to see 10 bore boyz instead of the chariots. I was also hoping for a new Wyvern considering the tomb kings got a new dragon and the Bretionians got a new lord on a pegasus.
