Hi, Hidden Palace released a late SA2 proto recently and I've been having so much fun with it due to it still having the most debug stuff out of any version of this game.
It has the same object editor as SADX Preview, so here's a vid of me messing around with it.
Also I switched to Redream for recording. It's much, much better than Demul for it.
(Wish the text had a bigger outline but oh well.)

Is this real? I woke up with a titanic migraine, drank a monster, went straight back to sleep, woke up again, and then streamed for over two straight hours before eating and watching RU-vid for the past few hours. I legitimately feel my brain cells dying and I can’t tell what’s really in front of me and what is just a figment of my burnt out imagination. Great video. Help.

When Sonic is hit by the hyperspeed GUN truck, he seems to put off the same effect as if he were falling through the atmosphere in one of the space stages. Does that mean that atmosphere effect is a constant for Sonic as an object, and he'll enter that state when moving fast enough?

I don't think it's the same effect. The fire is triggered by a death plain. This effect is a sort of "bonk" effect being repeated over and over to LOOK like fire. It's a bit hard to explain, but if you played SA2, you might have... Some idea?

@@solknuckles2408 ohh yeah I know what you mean, like running straight into a wall as Sonic, yellow and orange stars fly out like some Looney Toons shit. And that does make more sense, Sonic hitting a diagonal, downward-slanted invisible wall over the truck section, over and over and over. Cause you watch speedruns and no matter how fast they get this bitch going, he never starts burning up like in Final Rush.

Kek. I think it's more likely that's the bonk effect from running straight into something, the orange and yellow stars. And it's just that Sonic is hitting the downward-slanted invisible wall above the truck section on like every frame since he's flying so fast, so it LOOKS like he's going so fast he's re-entering the atmosphere Sout out to Sol & Knuckles for pointing that out

it is interesting how sonic gives off the same particle effect when falling in final rush to when he gets hit by the gun truck, possibly indicating that this effect is a default for whenever sonic falls a great enough distance

I knew about some of the really cool debug features this had because I read tcrf proto article about a week after it's release. I highly recommend reading up tcrf articles for cool information on your favorite games and newly found prototypes.

The Hidden Palace had a mini sonic month part 2 in december 2020. I think there was a Sonic Spinball proto, a Sonic Adventure 2 proto (Shown here) and of course, the Sonic 1 proto.

I wonder why they didn't leave these in the final games as cheat codes, like they did in the Genesis era. It wasn't even an accident back then; Yuji Naka is quoted as saying they did it on purpose because they knew people might like playing with it.
