If you think this was a bad trade for the Hawks, you don’t know ball. Dyson Daniels is an excellent on-ball defender, like All-NBA defender level. Larry Nance is a good role player too. Getting 2 first round picks back and the players we got is really the best you can expect. DJM isn’t an all world player. His value was down because he didn’t bring the defensive chops we thought we were gonna get from the Spurs, and he’s a rather inefficient scorer who needs the ball in his hands to be effective. Nevertheless, the Hawks needed defense. Trae never said anything about getting a star-like stop putting words in his mouth. We got a star in DJM and it didn’t pan out. Jalen Johnson is plenty capable. Risacher will contribute when he gets settled. It’s pretty obvious the Hawks are prioritizing defense. What’s the point in being able to score a 118 PPG when we’re giving up 120? Defense wins championships. See the Celtics. I don’t think the Hawks are done dealing, but this is a step in the right direction IMO. Trae isn’t getting traded. If you think this is the beginning of a rebuild, well, that just seems silly to me. The Trae/DJM experiment didn’t work, so the Hawks tried to recoup the cost it took to get DJM. All things considered, they got a decent haul.

If you think this wasn’t a bad trade for the Hawks, then you don’t know ball lol. Atlanta has traded John Collins for nothing, Kevin Huerter for nothing, & now Murray for nothing. The Knicks gave up a lot for Bridges. Atlanta could’ve fetched more for Murray than they did giving the facts there were reports that Murray had more trade value than Trae. Atlanta has no direction & Landry Fields has no clue what he’s doing

@@dukeonwheels Well let me explain why it was then: Murray was top 5 in most clutch-time field goals. Despite losses by Atlanta as a team, their defense was better with Murray starting the point while Trae was hurt (defensive rating went from 30th to 8th). Plus if Trae was struggling, DJ was more than capable of taking over a game. Who are you going to count on to take over in the clutch now? Capela who can’t hit open layups? Atlanta should’ve at least gotten CJ or Ingram out of the trade, but they settled & they now how to make more moves to make up for DJ’s absence

They tried to recover the loss from the dumb trade they made in order to get DJ. Dyson was an 8th pick and will be a serviceable point guard for the Hawks. Wayy better than Forrest

You have to look at the future; first of all LA Lakers will be sorry this year, Hawks will get their pick in the next draft. Dyson is a BETTER defender than DJM and more size, which is what the Hawks need. Zacc Risacher and Jalen Johnson are both going to be better than DJM was for the Hawks. Hawks are building around Trae

Depends on where the LA pick falls and dysons development. Also if LA sucks they get to be competitive and get a top ten in a loaded draft. That pick alone would be worth the trade.

We literally beat 2 of those teams in the playoffs and got 2 games off the other. We need defense. If we get deeper and better defensively, we are contenders. Trae proved that when things are clicking he can get to the Finals with ROLE PLAYERS. JJ might be his second star. He needs a 7’0 ft big. Hawks need another star.

Dejounte Murray was the best player on the Hawks. You can change my mind about it he just is. But the fact that they traded him is crazy. As we saw when Trae Young was injured, the Hawks were on fire. They beat Boston two times. All without Trae, the star player of all of those games was Dejounte Murray, hitting a buzzer beater, Shooting 3's! The Hawks were most likely to win next year, but those chances are gone.

there were anecdotal games where DJ was our best player yes, but over the years Trae & him were together, the teams net rating was clearly better with just Trae in the floor. We had a Negative net rating on over 1000 minutes of game time with just DJ on the floor. He’s not better for this team than Trae is, the numbers show that clearly.
