Quite exciting out there Dave, and a tad cooler. Thanks for sharing.

Yes a bit testing in the end and I think we were beyond the limit I would use that flying jib.

Yes just run a bit of dyneema from the front of your bow sprit down to the eye on the bow you use to crank your boat up on the trailer. It’s called a Bob-Stay. It will take the extra force off the bowsprit. Good luck. Nice video

Thanks for the tip! I will definitely get that done over winter.

Thank you for this video. In Brittany, we have the saying " I touch some wood" too. Meaning, as in UK I suppose, : I hope the Gods won't punish me for being too optimistic. I believe in this saying very strongly...🙂 About your "weak" bowsprit, a good solution would be to put what we call "bowsprit moustache" : a rope going from the end of the bowsprit, to the boat, one meter after the bow (same way the shrouds prevent the mast from breaking).

Many thanks for the comment and very interesting too. I agree, I need a bobstay of some kind and also some stronger pipe maybe as the one I have here is a bit thin

In the US, we say knock on wood.

Ah, yes, Cheers for that. I love to know how certain things are said in different countries/cultures. "Touch wood" over here, some people use it more than others. Me plainly one of the over users!!!

I have the bowsprit on my Dabber supported with a bobstay made from a Laser kicking strap, which works well.

That's interesting. I tried a makeshift bobstay but it does need tightening but a kicker would work perfectly.

Yes I think the weather and the fact the sailing was nowhere near as good this season made it feel like you hadn't sdailed enough, but don;t worry, still 10 more episodes to go before the end and I have some epic videos to end the season on too!

Great sail Dave. I was always told that the term "touch wood" comes from a game in the 1800's called "Tiggy touch" in which you are safe if touching wood. Apparently it was very popular 😊

I was always told it was due to con men in the Middle ages selling bits of the "True Cross" which people would touch for luck. In the end they realised you might as well touch any piece of wood for luck.

Well both are pretty plausible tbh. Very interesting!!
