With never-before-seen footage and insight, go behind the scenes of Filippo Ganna's momentous UCI Hour Record attempt. Explore the development, testing and training it takes to break one of cycling's most prestigious records.
Fair play to Dan Bigham, that must be the most selfless act I have seen anyone do helping someone break your record so soon afterwards. I hope he was well rewarded!
@@jaunedroite it is indeed but he didn't have to do it 100%, nobody would have known. I have worked with plenty of people who would behave like that without far less than a world record at stake, that's for sure.
@@brianridley1102 I get it, but "the most selfless act I have seen anyone do" is a bit much. Just seem like unnecessary exaggeration, when the guy is paid for exactly that and was already paid for it when he set his hour record (so he knew all along what was coming).
It's a beautiful thing to see the selflessness of Dan Bigham in assisting Ganna to his record. The individual gets celebrated, as they should, incredible effort but the kudos to the entire team.
I can’t imagine doing that, great video. Massive congrats to ganna, what an achievement. He makes it look so easy and that’s how you know he’s crazy and still wants to go faster.
Kudos Filippo! You are such an inspiration, and your sunny disposition and laser-focus is yet another perfectly aligned string in Team Ineos’ [already impressive] bow! 🙂
Ja, Filippo Ganna hat einen Affenzahn drauf. Gratulation zu dieser tollen Leistung. Wenn es einer schafft, diesen Weltrekord zu unterbieten, dann ist es Ganna selbst.
Wonderful video about a big moment for the team ! It could be pretty cool to have one of this type of video about Josh Tarling when he became european ITT champion ! Thx :)
You are truly a great athlete and exemplary sportsman! Thanks Filippo! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! You are the best! We are so proud of you in Italy! 👏👏👏
Awesome feat. When you look at what it takes to do this now it helps to explain why cycling is getting so expensive. Gone are the days when the likes of Obree made his own bike out of washing machine parts. These companies have to recoup some of this investment somehow.
I have a feeling that the Hour record will stay in the Ineos camp for some time....They have a pretty good British replacement for Ganna and he's only 19!
They want him to have a reasonably high heart rate without being too hot, so they have him warm up pretty hard and then wear an ice jacket and put his hands in ice to cool him down
I am interested as well! My socks often slip down my calf on a hard ride. Could it be possible they are adding some kind of sticky substance to keep the socks perfectly in place?? I don't have any other ideas.
I’ve always wondered what would happen if today’s riders got on a non-aero steel frame, and rode outside in wool shorts just like Merckx did back in the day. Would anyone break that record?
They would probably still beat it. Nutrition and training is just so much better these days then back then. If Merckx would have had today's tools back then? Probably not.
i think it's a difficult question to answer in any realistic way. when going fast enough (not just on a bike) air friction plays a larger and larger role in power consumption... at about 15km/h air resistance is the main force the rider works against (it goes up to over 90%) at the speed these riders pedal. so pedaling in open air for one hour presents the rider with such inconsistent air resistance that a world record would depend a lot on pure luck of wind direction and intensity... ps: even sprint runners feel this 'wind inconsistency' and at a certain wind speeds, the races "don't count"
I love how nobody talks about that this record improved by an insane 11.1% in just 8 years, which might show how far we are from the true human/technological limit
how long do you think it takes to make something like this? this is an incredibly highly produced, well researched documentary. those dont come out of thin air
