In this video, Erin and I turned our attention to the etiquette of the London Underground, also referred to as the tube. When we first arrived to London, we learned very quickly that there are many rules, some unspoken, that all tube riders seem to follow. As new American expats we became terrified of breaking any of these rules and the repercussions we would face if we did.
As the semester went on, we became more comfortable with said rules, but still wondered what would actually happen if any of the rules were broken. As an investigation into both the tube and British culture, Erin and I broke some of the most common ‘rules’ of London’s underground and spoke to Londoners about their views.
Through this project, we learned that the rules of the underground not only control traffic, but also serve as a magnifying glass into British culture and their perfectly orchestrated, yet sometimes passive, way of life.
