The way things are going 99% of countries will be qualifying for the European Championship and the World Cup going forward. Something for everyone in the audience. Both Republic and North Ireland are so bad even we'll qualify for many tournaments in future as it will be harder to not qualify than qualify. Totally watered down nonsense. The competition in the qualification group stages is a snorefest. I know very few who like the international break. It's a hinderance to the club game. The sense of achievement in qualifying wont be the same as before when you really had to earn it. Back in 1988 Republic of Ireland qualified for our first European Championships where only 8 countries (two groups of four) made it. It was a great achievement for us and we went on to beat England 1-0, draw 1-1 with USSR and only a late Wim Kieft goal for eventual winners Netherlands prevented us getting to the semi final. It's gone from one extreme to the other now.
