Throughout history, technology has been at the forefront of our development, changing the way we live and protect citizens. The nation's skies need to be secure to achieve this, which is why the US military has unveiled plans to implement a project that has been kept secret for years. This project stretches the boundaries of aeronautical engineering and goes beyond what we ever imagined.

I definitely respect the awesome engineering work and I have walked around two of them parked nose to nose in Palmdale CA. They are incredible even up close. But they were designed as a surveillance and reconnaissance aircraft. They were incredibly fast and had state-of-the-art cameras. American engineering at its finest.

If, and that is a big if, we actually build this beast I will know soon after the first order is placed. It has not been ordered as of yet. This type of aircraft requires very special metal to be built. That metal has not been ordered, or bought in the form factor required. Hypersonic Missiles are in development, the Dark Star is still just vaporware.

@@ritchschut1997 the sr-72 got replaced by satellites. it just isn't needed anymore, satellites don't cost continuous fuel. So i can't see them making any hypersonic jet for taking pictures anymore. If they did make a hypersonic jet, it would be a bomber or to try and reach up into orbit without a massive rocket. So if you take that into account, it gives you an idea why they'd be developing what they are and why there was major cutbacks on spaceflights with giant rockets, they got a better and cheaper way obviously.

The problem with laser weapons is that the air, the atmosphere is a huge hindrance. It distort and weakens the beam and there's not much you can do about that, I don't care how technologically advanced you are. The literal air molecules (nitrogen, oxygen, water, bugs, whatever) gets in the way and you just have to power through it. The only way to do that is with more power. Thus, lasers would be ideal at extremely high altitudes, or space. But closer to the ground, they're only viable in specific situations, in certain circumstances, in certain weather configurations (if it's raining, forget about it).

In 1983, I saw the SR-71 take off from Osan Air Force Base, Republic of Korea. That was the first sonic boom (they circled Osan so they could make the sonic boom there before it got over North Korea) I heard since I was a kid in 1963 and lived near Vandenburg AFB.
@mstrdiver
@mstrdiver 7 месяцев назад
Danny - You may not have heard it, but in supersonic flight, any aircraft continuously 'sheds' sonic booms as it flies, and the noise hits the ground-based listeners to sound only like one boom as it flies past. This is because the aircraft is continuously penetrating past the speed of sound and creating the noise.

It would appear the US is leading the world in the production of CGI aircraft. I am sure we have some amazing creations flying in the real world too. There was an interceptor version of the SR-71, and while we learned a lot about firing missiles at extreme speed there just wasn't anything fast enough to intercept with the SR-71. At 2 miles per second (7500 mph) we may have to ask what battlefield we would use this aircraft on. As a recon aircraft, it would be wonderful. It may also be great in the Space Force.

Incorrect according to books written by Ben Rich and Kelly Johnson. The A12 Cygnus was the first plane in the family. This was the CIA version. Shortly after this program was initiated, the air force came calling. That is when the SR71 went into development. While that development was going on, Kelly got the idea to turn the SR71 into a long range interceptor. That was when the 3 yf-12's were built. It should also be noted that there was actually a fourth version in this family too. The MD ( I forget what numbers followed the MD ) This was an altered A-12 that had a very ( for the time ) stealthy drone mounted to it. That drone could be launched at mack 3.1 or 3.2.

The SR-71 NEVER WAS a fighter aircraft. It has always been a reconnaissance aircraft. The SR-72 will also be reconnaissance-based. The S R stands for STRATEGIC RECONNAISSANCE. That means it takes pictures and does not carry missiles.

Reminds me of the WWII, German Wunderwaffe (wonder weapons) which were supposed to win the war against the Allied forces, but they were ultimately overwhelmed by manpower and superior production capability.

Sorry, but you are mistaken. The SR-71 is not and has never been a fighter jet. It was strictly a spy plane. It wasn't designed for a fighter roll, and would be useless as such. It had speed, but not the maneuverability of a fighter jet.

Yeah...um...the SR 71 is a reconnaissance jet, not a fighter. The Eagle is still probably the fastest. It is definitely the fastest if you count the V-Max feature.

A couple of comments: 1. Someone once said “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably isn’t.” This video sounds like a slick sales presentation. 2. If we are working on such projects the Chinese likely have important information about it from compromised contractors.

The Blackbird is a RECON and SPY aircraft. It was NEVER meant to be a fighter. The Blackbird depends on its SPEED and STEALTH as it's only weapons. SR-72 Darkstar is still in development, and is not likely to be in production for at least another decade.

You only know enough to get into trouble, you don't know enough to get out of trouble. The blackbird didn't approach a speed of 2,200 mph. It reached 3,200 mph. Ask the russians, they know.
