We face a challenge to break open the very hard concrete walls of the abandoned water tank in order to create doors for the future greenhouse.
We live in a medieval castle with a huge, derelict estate in southern France. Follow our ambitious garden projects, from vineyards to formal gardens, tropical plants to self-sustainability. Our project is enormous and our enthusiasm contagious. We'd love you to join us.

I’m quite a visual person too Dodi so I like to put it on paper. Couldn’t find an eraser though so all the mistakes stayed in 😂

The drawing was not amateur . It was well drawn and helped tremendously in understanding more clearly the project. The only thing now I don't understand is the part about the cold thing. What is it, and what does it do or what's it for?

All will become clear with the cold frames! But if you’re interested then do a search on them and you’ll find out about them in advance! They’re a very old gardening technique.

What direction will the greenhouse face? What condition is it in(the cistern) ? Please stop apologizing about the work you do , you are much more capable in many of the things you tackle than you give yourself credit for. You have amazing ideas and perspective and patience!

With the doors and window cut out, the old cistern resembles a ruin from ancient times. Beautiful. This project is going to be magnificent. I'm glad Marc was wearing his "safety sandals,"😂 lol.

That was quite a feat getting through the stone walls. It was so waterproofed, that it probably would have lasted for 100's of years if it wasn't being converted. This is going to be a fabulous addition to your gardening in the future. Can't wait for the next update.

Your drawing with the explanations makes the whole greenhouse and the process very clear, Amy. It's impossible (at least for me) to realize just how difficult these transformations are, so your videos are doing a really good job as well as being enjoyable.

Greetings from Sydney They usually put higher % of cement in concrete , to make it waterproof @ 40 mpa or above. Good work, it’s going to be a great facility.

Interesting! It was a reasonably common design of simple greenhouse to lean against stone walls in order to profit from the warmth they accumulate during the day. We’ve always loved that type!

Good idea with the hedgehog flooring since, presumably, there's a spring somewhere that fed the pond. A shame for the craftsmen who made such a good the cistern, that it became irreparable.

Will any of the panes of glass you install on the curved frame be capable of opening? (Either with or without screens)? Because I was thinking that being south facing that temperatures could get very high during summer months and you may need to provide a means of lowering the temps via air movement. Also, I was wondering if you would have stairs to the roof and use that area for anything. Thanks for sharing this project. It is great to see the cistern being repurposed in this way!

Hi Gloria - great questions. Yes there are windows in the glass side. And no we won’t need stairs for the roof because as my drawing failed to effectively show is that the northern side of the cistern is actually at ground level because it’s part buried. So we can easily walk onto it already. And we have big plans for it!

Amy, will there also be a taller exterior door for direct access to the greenhouse? With Mark’s love of tropical plants, I am sure he will want some really tall ones. 😉

That’s really substantial work at the new greenhouse. I didn’t expect that it would be so hard to put in the openings in the old cistern. I love how you visualise the planned work with your drawings. (BTW: Strangely I didn’t see the video in my Abonnement overview on RU-vid. Just later on the start page, and if I directly selected your channel. Must’ve been a bug)

I got notified of part 3 but as you said what had been in part 2 I realised I hadn't seen it and so am now watching before I go to part 3, interestingly on this vlog it shows I had been unsubscribed but I was notified of part 3 which shows I am subscribed to all vlogs !!!! So it appears that yt unsubscribed me, I missed a vlog and then yt resubscribed me so that I wouldn't miss another !!! I have now made sure I am subscribed for all again
