I am going through this now, but no radiation. My doctor told me NOT to overfill the expanders because the skin will pucker if the skin is overstretched. He also said he will not be cutting into original excision but making a new incision to reduce any chance of not healing or infection. You made me laugh because I can so relate to the hard baseballs. I call them oranges. Hard as a rock and immovable. I love not wearing a bra as I have no nibbles and they don’t move. I would love not wearing a bra after my implants. I still have 1 or 2 more fills. My assignment this week is to find pictures of breasts I like.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. I hope everything has turned out wonderful for you! I am just beginning my unilateral tissue expander fills and will follow the same surgical path as you have. I had my mastectomy 6 weeks ago. I did not need radiation or chemo. Thanks for mentioning the estrogen blocker side effects. I am menopausal, 63 and the side effects are still a big concern for all ages with these medications. My cancer reoccurrence rate is 12% & my oncologist reports taking Anastrozole will reduce it to 6%. I am on the fence with the meds due to this but obviously concerned about my unaffected breast.

Thank you for sharing this video, when we go through this process we think that we are the only one feeling this weird sensation tion with the breast expanders, NY expanders are so uncomfortable I had my double mastectomy 5 weeks ago, they haven't start with the expanding, it's so uncomfortable that I can't sleep.😢😢😢

Thank you for this video. I am almost 4 weeks post double mastectomy with expanders over the muscle. I start saline next week and I’m currently filled with air. Hearing that once they remove the expanders that the pocket will be a little bit smaller makes me wonder if I should add more air
@cancerlovesme9590
@cancerlovesme9590 6 лет назад
We Can Do It! I need to do an updated video. My pockets are definitely smaller now that the expanders are out and my implants are in. I look a lot more natural now. My plastic surgeon is a rockstar, but if you are worried about your size go a little bigger. You only get this one shot at reconstruction.

Who among the ladies here stayed in the hospital with heir first surgery? I went home after my first (hours surgery) and second surgery. Is there any reason why patients have to stay overnight even if surgery went well?

I'm so sorry!! I had mine on June 9th, I just finished radiation and I'm getting ready to have my exchange (reconstructive) surgery. You're going to be fine!! If you can, get a "brobe" it's a bra and robe mixed, where it has pockets in the bra to put ice packs, and the robe has pockets on the inside for your drains. It's really high quality, I still use mine all the time, it helped a lot. I wish you the best of luck!! I'm here if you have any questions or need to talk.

Hello. Some they decide not to have implants. Others. They decide to have it. Each individual will have different choices based on their needs and situation. But either no implants or with implants , you do what is best for you. And whether a patient decides to go flat or with implants, they are all beautify and very brave😊

Hello, I just done with my final surgery, after 3 months of waiting. I agree. Expanders, hard like a rock and does not move all. It slowed me down. But interesting how plastic surgeons go about this kind of surgery differently. With mine. The incision was made where my previous incisions are. And I understand that each patient (and their cancer ) have different cases too. Good luck to all of you🩷
