Breathtaking Abandoned 200 year old Manor House Forgotten For Decades Up North 

Wouldn't it be great to see this wonderful homestead restored instead of lost forever? Personally, l'd rather live here-in a solidly built historical place, than one of those cheaply built, cookie cutter, boring McMansions. They sure won't be standing in 200 years! Its sad highways are more important than old homes that could be saved & great trees that could tell many stories if they could talk!🌳🌲

In old early 1800's houses they made the kitchen separate from the house because they cooked with firewood and did want to burn down the main house if an accident happened. There were no bathrooms originally cause no indoor plumbing yet. There was outhouses. That's why the bathrooms are added in a closet or other small space.

I loved this property so much. Truly a part of American history. Extremely well built. Looks to be completely structurally sound, floors didn't even look to have sag. I would restore it one room at a time. Thank you so much for another incredible explore.

Don’t know if you already figured it out but the knob-looking things over the fire place were probably where they attached different arms to swing pots in and out of the fire to cook. So that room was probably the original kitchen. Thanks for the videos. I look for them every week. Ok. Maybe every day😳🤣

Imagine the labor that went into that stonework, and when the laborers rested, it probably wasn’t at the Holiday Inn down the road! Wow. It’s ashamed that the original stone house can’t at least be saved! Loved that pump house too! Innovative for the times I’m sure. My Grandfather had an old dairy much like that, he processed and bottled it all right there in his barn , much like that one, and delivered the milk too. Such a cool old house, and hardly touched by graffiti or vandalism. It could almost be lived in again. And to be torn down for a road, such a shame. But I almost feel worse for the trees - they are still alive! Thank you for the video!!

I find it strange to see fireplaces butted up against a wall. I liked the kitchen. The attic seems in good shape compared to the damage in the house below. I feel the story behind this house would be interesting, but then again, aren't they all!!

It's a crime to tear this place down simply to widen a road and off ramp. It's always another highway that is needed over history. Just think, all of this will be dumped in a landfill somewhere.

I was thinking that outbuilding was either the summer kitchen or a smokehouse. Cool place!

It angers me that the cost to repair your home is way beyond what anyone should be paying. That's why I believe these beautiful old homes get abandoned. They can't afford maintenance or overhauls that they may need to bring them into compliance to modern standards. That shouldn't be. I live in the house my grandfather built with his own hands in 1946. We've had to do a lot of work to update the plumbing among many other things, but I wouldn't live anywhere else. His barn still stands, his tractor shed and smoke house still stand. We've done work on all of those to make sure they stay standing for my children. Push back the government and their robbery of our funds for things that don't matter and let us keep our earnings so that we may maintain our homes!!

And instead of someone taking care of part of our country's history, just let it rot. So sad. SMH

Hello, Kappy, my friend. Wow, what wonderful history you learned on this house! I'm glad you took the time to write such an interesting and informative description about it. Your moving account of the house's former life makes the fact that it is to be demolished even more poignant and sad. Gosh, those cars whizzing by really are close to this house! It's just a shame that this house's death certificate has been signed. It seems to me that it would be better to turn this property into a living history museum with docents showing school children how people lived back in that house's time. Here in Tennessee, we value our state's history and have a large number of open air living history museums showing farm life in the 18th and 19th centuries. There are even antebellum mansions still being preserved as museums and even as B&Bs! Kids would much rather see how people lived than to read a book. I liked both! This house is beautiful, but I'll keep my comment brief from here on. My husband is restless tonight, asking where "the boys" are, meaning his four sons, now men nearing retirement age! When I told him that one of his sons passed on five years ago, he wept. This is such a cruel disease! The gingerbread is lovely and in remarkably good condition. That staircase is lovely and the matching drop is a nice touch. Did you know there is a glossary of staircase pieces? I didn't, either, until I Googled staircase parts. That's where I learned about the drop. It's for show, nothing more. 😊 I believe the carved flower on the newel post indicates that the home was in a Scandinavian family. Saw that on a home reno show. The tile work on that fireplace surround/cover is just beautiful! Perhaps someone will buy the salvage rights to this place before the excavators move in. The knobs may be to open and close the damper on the chimney to allow the fire to burn more efficiently and without filling the room with smoke. The shutters would have been closed when winter arrived, to help keep heat inside from escaping through the windows, or in the event of a summer storm, which could damage expensive window panes. You found a bread oven inside an oven with a spit where large portions of meat could be roasted. This was a well-appointed farm, to be sure. Seeing all the various outbuildings still in relatively good repair makes the destruction of this house even more tragic. I'm so glad that you "saved" this wonderful, historic property for posterity, Kappy, and I'm glad you shared it with us. It's going on the Favorite Houses List, for sure! A wonderful tour! There's a place called Greenfield Village in Dearborn, Michigan where old homes and historical buildings such as Thomas Edison's office and such have been taken apart at their original location and rebuilt there. This home and barn operations would fit in so nicely there. thank you for documenting this much loved home for all time.

Hey buddy, great job on the video!!I really got a bang out of this one.I am restoring a 'abandoned ' property that no one wanted but I see the potential in old things as you do.I took out a fireplace exactly like the one you shown to replace with a new one that is similar. Damn things weigh about four hundred pounds and I only 150lbs have a good old time replacing it by myself with going through stairs even.Even has the same carpet on the one stairway you showed.Ha! GOTTA know are you a farm boy or ranch kid since you too seem to appreciate the old houses and barns and do exploring like I do? Keep up the great work,the videos are just so cool!!!

What a HOUSE! A true American Castle, made to not only survive but be productive!! I love it when you show the barns! Barns are like a convergence of the ages, filled with items from long ago mixed with newer icons-so typical of barn stuffs! America should go back to that heritage. Depending on other nations for our existence may be good for the politicians, but Americans will thrive and recover their worth and glory, when they rediscover their resilience thru old fashioned living! BEAUTIFUL home! It almost looks like someone was attempting restoration at some point. The grout in the stone walls doesn't look old and looks "refreshed". Also the banister and newel post appear as if they've been sanded. It would be awesome to restore this one. Ty once again for a great tour.

Another beautiful old home, with great bones, that could fairly easily be fixed and lived in once again. Thanks for the tour! You find the coolest places! 9:17 those little turn buckles were used to hold a decorative cover in place to disguise the fireplace when not in use in the summer months. You can see the framing that would have supported the cover. I wonder where it has gone? It would be nice to see!

This is one of your most fascinating finds. Wallpapers are definitely from the 1970's, This old granny remembers some of them. It's too far gone to save now, which is a shame.

What a beautiful place. It seems there is money available to demolish and build new substandard cookie cutter housing that won’t last a decade, but there isn’t the vision to invest in renovating a quality property like this. That house is solid. Just needs renovation. What a find!

This is a marvelous house with modernization with renovation will be fantastic house to live in. The property with the buildings has lot of potential. What you think was the summer kitchen is in fact the original kitchen. It was not uncommon to build the kitchen separate from the main house. Just in case of fire.

That eagle wallpaper looked like fifties or sixties when early American was in style. The wallpaper in the bedroom with the fireplace looked forties or fifties.

I love all the hardware and the height of the doorways inside. Maybe those little knobs on the fireplace were for a gas line? I love the main staircase and I really really love the attic windows and space. Very very cool house. And the outdoor kitchen...wow... Thank you for sharing

Wow happy a lovely house. In its day would be worth a lot with its own water. In side the house seems to be in a fairly tidy state. Loved seeing the shuttered windows. Sad it's now vacant. The attic space lovely and dry. What happens if the property no longer gets inhabited. Here in UK squatters take up residence. Do you really hate the basement. What a cool old house-I can’t imagine how long it took to get all the stones and bricks there and put in place! I wonder how many people lived there. And the barn was huge!!! Some major work was done on this farm. Very nice.

Wow, the history that place has lived through. Of course it’ll just be wiped away by a thruway exit🤦🏻‍♀️The house was so empty except that bedroom. Looked like a squatter was using it. The pizza boxes, wrappers etc. Even some graffiti. That barn, summer kitchen & pump house was something to see. As the saying goes, “if walls could only talk.” Thanks Kap! It was actually nice for a change for us and you as well I'm sure Kappy to see you go through a house that wasn't laden with a bunch of trash all over the place that you had to maneuver around . Gives us more of an opportunity to better see the house in its entirety . I am surprised there wasn't a piano somewhere though . I wonder if they roasted chestnuts on an open fire at Christmas time ?🎄Btw centipedes gross me out too.😬 Creepy perambulator in the barn. Half expected Rosemary's Baby to sit up in that thing.😈😱

So scary, some of these places are not whole some. But, I still watch, just get bad feelings sometimes.
