🇮🇹The Breda Ba.65 was an Italian ground attack aircraft that first saw action during the Spanish Civil War. It was built in both single and two-seat configurations, and was exported to various nations prior to the outbreak of the Second World War, but only saw large-scale combat operations with the Regia Aeronautica in Northern Africa.

A-1 Skyraider comes to mind here. The forward position where the pilot is almost sitting on the nose of a ground attacker was used by the A-1 too. The aggressive appearance appeal to me where the pilot are close and upfront so that he can almost spit on the ground.

The Bredas proved to be deadly and precise in the role of low level ground attack and dive bombing in comparison with other aircraft available. In the hands of pilots like Capt. Antonio dell'Oro, Tenente Adriano Visconti and Spanish civil war veteran pilots who were properly trained to fly the aircraft it proved a bitter pill for British armoured forces caught in the desert. Notable encounters included missions carried out at Sidi Rezegh and Sidi Barrani. The Bredas were even involved in one air battle causing the loss of 3 Gloster Gladiators.

Thanks! Excellent as always. I'd like to propose an airplane which has quite a few parallels: The Heinkel He70 Blitz. It was actually a more succeful design, although not as much as a a military aircraft, and it's overall significance is very much underrated. It learned the German's how to build modern military aircraft. Even Rolls Royce bought one to test it's engines in, a fact which I only learned about weeks ago!!

In Chilean service, under the bis designation, the airplane suffered a high accident rate, just like in Italy. The local press made a sensational scandal at the time. Pilot error was frecuent because of the poor ergonomics of the controls. The "palanca de gases" gas lever? accelerator? (Don't know the English word) worked backwards from most other planes, causing fatal accidents. The Airforce decided the plane was too advanced and hard to fly, so it was decided to buy Italian biplanes. World War 2 Made that impossible. You can see one of the turrets in the aeronautical museum in Santiago. Very interesting video articule, kudos!

Thank you for this video. I have one little criticism. For music, please choose something from a library of those freely available that preferably are not from minecraft or half life.

The A80 engine version was a debt! Many pilots lost their lifes in to crash due to engine stop. The k 14 (authorized copy of gnome - rohne 14 k) engine was fine. This plane was used in 80 degree dive bombing against bridges and artilleries during Spain war, also ground strafing and level bombing together BR 20s. In Libya they were used against desert rats and artilleries till January 1941. The A80 pilots used to fly with canopy opened to jump in case of engine failure. Anyway it was the best Italian dedicated CAS plane. Captain Dell'Oro was a ground targets top gun, before he was killed. Captain Visconti too, before he became a fighter pilot, fought with this plane vs ground targets. Many uk pilots hit those planes referring they were Me 109 strafing bombing ground targets, but we know that first 109 were in Libya in April 1941. It was very hard to shot down, not so fast and not so manuvrable.

Italians have always done good engines, exceptional engines at times and seeing as the engine is both the heart and soul of any combat aircraft...... *meshes~fingers~together*

These were a plane type in the AH video game Panzer General. I would love to see them do nothing and get blown up.

Look at the figures... 6, 9 , 3 aircraft deployed at any given time. And, fancy them facing Hurricanes, let alone the Spits...my God, what my brave fellow citizens italian pilots had to endure at the hands of...their own (fascist) command! A very good, documented video on a fascinating if unsuccessful plane. Thank you!!!

Portugal bought 10 that were used from 1939 to 1941, the plane was not liked at all by the pilots and after some fatal accidents the plane was grounded until a cyclone collapsed the roof of the hanger where the surviving planes were destroying them , to everybody's joy !

Brutto come il peccato e volava male. I soliti favoritismi del fascismo alle solite aziende in particolare la FIAT che senza vergogna continuò a produrre il CR42 fino al 1944.
