Welcome to lucky breed study episode 13! Today we're spinning Teeswater and Texel wool top, and I am here for it! I wasn't sure if I'd like the Teeswater as I've only spun locks before, but I loved it. I actually really enjoyed making these into yarn. They were super easy to spin, and very different, but each great for something! Thanks for joining me on my fiber journey to see knitting, spinning, felting, and all this other fun stuff we do here!

I feel as though these breed studies you are doing are really helping me understand more about the differences in fiber, and how one can alter how they spin when they start noticing those differences. Again, thank you sooooo much! BTW, I too hate mispronouncing words, so I can totally relate on that issue!

I've done a few that explain why I choose to spin something the way I do, and it always covers at least part of it. It is a GIANT topic, so I've kind of struggled to figure out how to do it without making it a whole huge class. Maybe I need to just make a whole huge class 😂😂

Hi Trish, I've been following your breed study and wanted to try it out myself. As a very new spinner, I thought it would help me discover what I enjoy spinning. I'm in the UK, so have gathered a few breed fibres from a UK supplier. Gradually, I will add more. I didn't think about the amount I ordered, 100g of each! Four times your quantity. I think I'll just take 25g to test as that's a huge amount of spinning. I'm enjoying all your videos immensely. You have such a lovely way of expressing yourself. You encourage me to have a go. I hope you are keeping well. Thank you so much for all you do. PS, I even bought an acid dye kit to experiment with because you mentioned it. xx

I have never spun either of these breeds. Loving your handspun Wensleydale with the beads 😍 how in the heck did you do that? Somehow I missed this wizardry.

Oh thank you! There are two videos on it (I think). This one has a couple of ways: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-ulHNlAK18xg.html. And this one is this specific yarn: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-mk-e8OLfAzU.html

two videos in a row - wheee! I was going to tell you about how to pronounce it ( and not to feel bad about how you pronounce it, since it doesn't even follow Dutch pronunciation rules), but i can see another fan here in the Netherlands beat me to it. I hope you get a chance to try some of the Blue Texel - it is really great to spin like the Texel, and is a beautiful steely color. Do they have any of those in the US?

I hope I get to try it too! I haven't tried looking yet, but hopefully soon.

So Trish I decided to be brave/impulsive and just bought my first raw fleece because of you😱 (actually I got 2😳) I’m terrified! Lol I also think it might be from the same farm your Finn unboxing was from. Will you be processing that with us anytime soon? It made me wonder, how do you store your raw fleece before you process it? Any suggestions would be much appreciated 😂 can you tell I’m a bit overwhelmed? Continuing to enjoy the breed study with you the texel looked really interesting. Have a great week Trish!

I've done them from Donna Putnam and Jim Merrifield. Was it one of those? If it was, please let them know where you saw it! I store my raw fleece separated from my stash (we use a porch, but you can even enclose it in a tote) until it's washed. I don't seal it airtight, but pretty close. If there is any possibility of a moth egg hatching, I want to make sure it can't make it out to the stash.

@@FiberLoveDiary I’m not sure, I found it on the FB raw wool group. It’s from spinning sheep fiber farm. When I was searching for videos on processing Finn your previous video popped up and after rewatching I thought it might be from the same farm which I thought made it meant to be since I was impulsive when I bought them 😂. But I’ll message her now and give you a shot out! When you store them do you keep them in the plastic bag they come in or do you completely transfer them? I was thinking of leaving them in the plastic with some cedar/lavender bags as I don’t have a lot of space. But I did get some cotton laundry bags just worried my cats will go after them since they go crazy for all my non raw roving 😅. Open to suggestions!

I am soooo far behind on spinning the study. I kind of binged on fleece buying this year and trying to get them all washed so i can get them out of my hubby's woodshop....lol! I have got to stop clicking on all your links for fiber providers. :D I wound up with Daffodil's fleece from Basking Meadow - love, love, love! Having a bear of a time getting the grease out of a beautiful Rambouillet fleece, if you have any tips for heavy grease?
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 3 года назад
OOO Didn't I get Daffodil's fleece once? I think I did. Your water has to be HOT. I've got our water heater turned up all the way (because we don't have any kids in the house anymore). And even though it means you have to rinse more, don't skimp on the soap. Soap plus the hot water melting it is what will remove grease.

@@FiberLoveDiary Thanks Trish -- guess I'll need to boil some water to add to my bins. My water heater is jacked up too, but this is an exceptionally greasy fleece...so round 2 then -- lol Yes, I mentioned you to Jennifer at Basking Meadow and requested "something like Daffodil that I saw FLD" and she sent me Daffodil. Now THAT was a perfectly behaved fleece -- lol!

Don't worry about not pronouncing it right. Us Dutch pronounce Texel like "Tessel". That is not very logical, normally the letter "x" in Dutch is pronounced like the "x" in English. Regarding the wool: I think you are right, it seems very similar to the British Down breeds I have tried. I sleep under a Duvet made of Texel wool (not a blanket, I guess the loftyness really makes it into a great duvet). It is the only wool I have ever spun, when I did a spinning course when I was 16, this is the wool we used.

I thought you might be Dutch! I great up in Holland, Michigan where there are still lots of Rynsburgers (their spelling). I was married to a Bareman too, and had a Bareveld Mother-in-law. They told me those were Dutch names. We even have a tulip festival there.

@@FiberLoveDiary oh that's so cool! Rijnsburg is a little town in the west of the Netherlands, right in the middle of the area where all the tulips grow. There aren't many people called Rhijnsburger or Rijnsburger. We are probably related to each other far, far away, no matter the spelling...A couple of generations ago not that many people could write, so the spelling of the name just depended on whoever happened to record the birth of a new child. Now living in London in the UK though...

We hear a lot here about names being recorded with incorrect spellings as people entered the country, because they couldn't write. Whomever recorded them did their best, and sent them along. Back in the '80s, the queen even visited during the tulip festival. So much fun!

@@FiberLoveDiary wow! I just googled Holland, MI. That's incredible! Such a strange mixture between some very Dutch buildings and sights with US features....
