Hi Trish, love the breed study. Learning so much about the individual sheep, their heritage, fleeces & what they're like for Spinning with. I know what you mean about being away from people, so you're not being bombarded by all thats going on.i keep upto date via RU-vid. But I'd rather be watching you or people like you. I to feel anxious about going out again, ive only been out once this year so far & that was for my first vacation at the beginning of March. Most of Lockdown restrictions were relaxed yesterday, fortunately or unfortunately we'd had about 6ins snow o Sunday night, so i know i can't get out. Take care & stay safe. 💘 Jen xx

Omigosh , the look on your face at 2:20 when you announced what week it was. There was a little disbelief and a touch of sadness 😯! I also love Rambouillet, the first time I spun it, I felt like a master spinner because of the finished bouncy springy yarn. Never have I ever spun Polworth, gotta try that one.❤️Your rant was well said and your binder is adorable ❣️

I had a long list of things to get done around the house today since we have been on the road. When I saw the notification that you had posted this week’s breed study, of course, everything got bumped. The good news I have made more progress on preparing my goat fiber today. Now, I better get caught up on the last four fibers. After all, clean laundry is over rated. Glad you are staying healthy. Cheers.

@plansandprocrastination
@plansandprocrastination 3 года назад
@@FiberLoveDiary The fiber was full of ultra short bits - it had been carded and lots of neps. The other batch I did was from raw fleece, and the tips were really brittle, and there was a break about 1/2" up from the base of the lock - basically had to trim it off at the base, and trim off the tips...so I was left with really short fluffy fuzz....lol....I know that wasn't the breed's fault. The yarn was super squooshy and I guess I'm weird cuz I'm not as much a fan of squoosh as much as I am say....bfl or shetland, or lincoln ...so that last fleece was a ton of work for a fiber I wasn't really fond of. I need to try something of higher caliber to replace the bad experience in my brain :) :)

Sheep got sheared this past Sunday and the wool is so beautiful! but because the shearer did not know what he was doing he left gashes in the sheep, cutting one of my girls on their hip right below her tail, 2" long by 1/2" wide. They are all doing a lot better now but still doctoring them might be able to go into pasture next weekend... Anyway, I totally agree with minimal processing, I over processed part of one of my fleeces and it felted, last night I tried a minimal processing method and it worked great wool is totally white and currently drying.

@@FiberLoveDiary Thank you, it’s combed top so I’m not sure how much more mistreatment I can put it through before it fights back. The yellow gel was the only one that took, it’s mostly faint so might cover well but I’ll stick to a similar pallet. I was trying to go for inexpensive options but you get what you pay for. Have you ever used Dylon brand dyes? Or should I invest in some acid dyed and stop trying to cheap out?
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 3 года назад
@@WellWoopdidoo I haven't even heard of Dylon dyes, but I'll look them up. This is just an opinion, NOT FACT, but I think mostly using food products (drink mixes and food coloring) is really only a good option if you are trying to avoid having something that isn't certified food safe in your kitchen/house. To me, it seems like most people end up spending more on that kind of stuff than they would on acid dyes, because you use SUCH a tiny amount of them. But, you should only do what works for your situation and wallet!

I'm glad you are doing ok, and I totally understand not wanting to talk about it all the time. I don't like anyone so I have no friends lol. I hardly leave the house except for food...and wool! Thanks for another fantastic breed study :-) I have a question. I know you paid one amount for all the samples you received, but which breeds have you found are more expensive than others, and are they worth the price?

I'll try to answer this one in the next q&a. There are some surprises in prices.

I adore Polwarth, but I’ve never spun Rambouillet and now I must. I’m in Michigan too, and I am so, so grateful that I have been vaccinated!

I'm glad you are too. We can't donate plasma if we're vaccinated so we are waiting.

Question... How do you feel about Cormo??
@FiberLoveDiary
@FiberLoveDiary 3 года назад
I love me some good Cormo! I would suggest you just flick it and spin it from the lock or comb it if you're planning to buy some fleece, because it is pretty challenging to card. It's lovely!

I haven’t spun either one of those, they do look squishy, I’ve heard a lot about the Rambouillet tho.

I have 1 pound of Polwarth top in my stash I didn’t even know I had 🤣 Bought from Paradise on sale most likely. What weight did you spin that sample of Polwarth? It looks bigger than DK.

I like spinning Polwarth. I don't think I've spun Rambouillet.
