Going to try something new here. Going to transcribe what I say to Spanish in the description:
No importa si crías pinto gallo a gallina roja o gallo rojo a gallina pinto.

Thank you for a very clear explanation. The genetics are most interesting. The process of achieving particular colours is engrossing. I say all of this as an elderly armchair fancier. Keep up the good work. All the best in your love of raising poultry. Sincerely, Larry Clarence Lewis, Canada

I've got the purest form of the North Britain's whitehackle that I got out of England from Mr John Sears.. I used a Whiten hen over a red rooster and get spangled.
@ChickenWired

So likely your red male carried spangle and your white hen either was a spangled hidden by white or also carried spangled. Did you get any solid whites out of them?

Its recessive in order for it to be visible, the male and female have to be visible or split for it to express itself. You can’t split dominant mutations but you can split recessive genes. Do you know where I can get more information on the mode if inheritance of mutations?

So.. is the actual spangle patern a co-dominate, incomplete dominant or true dominant gene.. or is it just a product of crossing?

white and black are a little more complicated. I've got a video on white but haven't done one on black. basically both are colors made by hiding other colors and inheritance depends on what combination of genes are used to get the end result.

I've had and bred those North Britain's whitehackle that I got to the ole pair of the original species ever since 1983. Those ole original strain of the North Britain's whitehackle that I got from England were dark wine in color. Hen were buff. With white legs.. 63/64 back to the original species came out spangled yellow leg. I bred to great lengths to get 63/64 of the original species ever since 1983..great grand parents into the line bred offspring.single mated.. Then the whole yard is the same thing as the original species.... I've been getting those spangle fowl in color. White leg.. And yellow leg of the family

Can you mix Spangled with greys and get Spangled greys
@ChickenWired

You can. Question is if you want that pure white type of grey or you like the red shoulders cause the pure white takes extra steps.

Do you know how spangle would behave on bbs? Blue black splash.
@ChickenWired
@ChickenWired 5 лет назад
Spangled, if we're talking mottled as in the video, would be a recessive trait. So if both parents show it visibly then all offspring would as well. The rules for blue would be the same as with any other blue. The only catch is you likely wouldn't tell whether a splash offspring is spangled or not. In the Blue Mille Fluer pattern the splashes are sometimes called "Sports" and would resemble the Gold Neck pattern with some bits of blue and black. So, for example, if you bred a blue mottled to a black mottled, you'd get blue mottleds and black mottleds. black mottled to black mottled equals more black mottled, etc. If breeding a blue mottled to a solid black with no copies of the gene, you'd get blues and blacks that carry mottled. If breeding blue mottled to a solid black with 1 copy of the gene, you'd get a quarter blue mottled, quarter blue carrying mottled, quarter black mottled, quarter black carrying mottled, and so on.

Are there any blue spangleds do you have any info about them i have 2 someone traded me and said they were blue spangleds but i can't find any info on them
@ChickenWired
@ChickenWired 3 года назад
Yep blue spangled is definitely a thing. So, they are b.b. red based, should have mahogany as well. they'll have mottling, so this video applies, plus blue, so the video on blue applies. depending on how you set your pens up you can produce about 6 different color variants. blue red, black breasted red, blue red "sport" (splash), and then the same three patterns with mottling. Will do a chart on it if it'll help.

😒 hmmm interesting... Good info. Another question. How often do you get yellow legs? Or am I wrong about the Morgan Whitehackle being predominantly pearl legs? Or do the yellow legs come from the Gull side that you have infused? I can't wait to get a pullet or hen... I am eager to get started on my spangled family next breeding season... Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
@ChickenWired
@ChickenWired 6 лет назад
This particular line has been bred to be all yellow legs. Most Morgans are either white legged only or white and yellow leg. These were bred to the yellow leg side even before I got them so I just try to maintain them as they were when I got them. The gull blood was also yellow legged but those birds are bred as a separate line.

i guess that the principle of crossing spangles varies from any other color, right? and I have heard some say that within a batch, spangles grow to be bigger or physically develop quicker? nice videos. this genetic little lessons are very interesting! how many pounds do your spangles weight?
@ChickenWired
@ChickenWired 6 лет назад
My spangles are quite small, depending on the line. the "Wisconsin side" which are the first ones I started with barely get close to the 5 lb range, have had some that came in under 4lbs. Spangle does vary from family to family. The Wisconsin side of my Morgans tend to hold their color and pattern very well with age, whereas the "Emery or Illinois" side (which throws the brassybacks) tend to be bigger, show more white in larger markings and tend to get whiter with age. This is not uncommon in other breeds, either. I know in Old English bantams and D'Uccle bantams it is common to set up multiple broodpens to produce birds who hit their peak markings at different ages (a pen to produce show pullets, a pen to produce show hens, one for show cockerals, and one for mature roosters as well.) Also on the subject of Old English bantams, their spangled pattern is based off of B.B. Red and has the additional gene Mahogany.

Will Spangled Not Breed True ?
@ChickenWired
@ChickenWired 6 лет назад
It does. It depends on how it is bred, like most genes something only "breeds true" if you're using two birds who are pure for the genes needed. Since it is recessive, it does not pass on visibly when crossing onto non-spangled birds in the first generation
@jessethechickenman1909

Chicken Wired I heard The Color Blue and Splash Would not Breed True ?
@ChickenWired
@ChickenWired 6 лет назад
Blue and splash are caused by the same gene. Splash is actually the pure form of blue, while blue is the impure. Depending on how they are bred, splashes can breed true. Blue on the other hand will not. Results will depend on if you breed blue to blue, blue to black or blue to splash. To get all blue offspring you must breed splash to black or black to splash.
