Great video Frederico. I'm big fan of the B01 movement. Another thing to highlight about Breitling is their independence from large groups. Something rare these days
Breitling is one of those brands that's really grown on me. I love their new in-house line up: it feels like they've stepped up into a new league over the last few years. I actually nearly bought a two-tone Chronomat 41 a few months back, but ended up going down a different route because it felt a bit too blingy. I still have nagging regrets about it though, so reckon I'll turn round a buy one at some point.
Yes, I've wanted a Brietling for years and settled on a Super Ocean because much of the rest of the line up are blingy and too "busy" on the faces and case..
The watch at the absolute top of my list is the Breitling Chronomat 44 GMT. It's absolutely gorgeous, it fits me perfectly, and does everything I need a mechanical pilot's watch to do. And of course, it features the B04 movement. I don't know much about movements, but I definitely am all about the GMT function, and the way you can move just the hour hand (and thus also the date) forward and back is spectacular. It's perfect for time zone hoppers like me. I've been lusting over this watch for about 6 months now. With this video, I suddenly feel vindicated and like I'm ahead of the curve. Thanks, Federico!
You're a very knowledgeable guy Federicio and I'd love to hear you, verbally at least, take other popular movements apart. We spend more and more time talking about the movements inside a watch but do we all fully understand the difference between them all?
Arthur Scargill there r 3 if not 4 types of watch enthusiasts in my opinion... Snobs (all about the name/brand) bling (all about name/brand/price) ignorant (what goes this year or with the better advertising I'll buy) and watchmakers (they pay for a balance between what's inside and a wrapping on the outside).. Having Sad this, you define which one u want to be cos is not rocket science.
It was between the chronomat 44 with the B01 or the speedmaster with the 9300 for me. I went with the omega just because I didn't like how busy the Breitling was. However in terms of the movement I think it's a fantastic movement and its just as good if not better than the 9300 movement.
Was at Woodbury Common and stopped at the Breitling Outlet store. Prices still beyond my reach, but up to half off on some models they were looking to move. Cool thing was that no one else was in the shop, so I got all the time I wanted to speak to the store manager Alfons, who was there on rotation from Breitling HQ and knew everything about the watches. Check it out if you're in the Hudson Valley.
I love my Chronomat 41 millimeter with the B01 movement. What a beautiful watch with its 18 karat gold bezel and gold center links. It my favorite and my grail watch, in my over 400 watch collection.
Thoroughly informative content, much appreciated. The Navitimer is one of my (many) long term goals at the moment. I currently only have one Breitling in the collection (Superocean Heritige blue dial), and it is one of my absolute favorites....All the best to TGV, BTW, wishing him a speedy recovery
Nice vid Federico Chronomat 44 Gmt is so smooth to wind and accurate to +1/2 secs a day I wear on alligator strap just to bling it down awesome piece .
Nice video Federico! Good info on a movement that isn't often talked about. Breitling is really moving forward, 5year warranty is very positive for a brand. It shows they believe in their movement.
Hello Federico, Thanks for doing this Breitling BO1 review. I have a Chronomat 44 with the BO1 movement and I love it... only thing is that you said they came out 4 years ago..... ooops 2009... I have the first year with the inhouse! A two tone, 18k rider tabs on the bezel.... not the full gold bezel. I have replaced the strap with a Bentley 962 speed bracelet and wow she is a looker and a tank!! I enjoy you talks and cander, keep up the good work! ATB to you.
Great review! Presently have the transocean day/date and the avenger seawolf ,looking forward to getting a navitimer 01 so your review is right time! Best wishes to TGV !!!!
Hi Federico. Have you ever done a video about brands that offer "lefty" versions of certain models? I'm left-handed and would be interested to know what mid/luxury brands might have offerings for me. I'm sure it would appeal to the other creative types in your fan base. Thx
Very interesting info. Kudos to Breitling for this innovation. Federico, please opine on how this compares with Omega's co-axial chrono which is also a column wheel, but gosh it sure is a thick movement.
Patek Philippe's Caliber CH 29-535 PS Is the best chronograph movement I have EVER used and felt in my life ever. It made me feel like an angel baby swaddled in a cocoon of cloud candy when I pressed the stop/start and reset buttons! It was even nicer than a freaking $208,000 Lange 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar split second chronograph with moon phase I tried.!
www.patek.com/en/mens-watches/complications/5170R-001 It is on this model and a couple other chrono's not just in the in ladys 7071! This thing is 39.4mm The movement alone is almost 30mm so it is in 1 lady's model and they have 4 varients of it www.patek.com/en/29-535 The Caliber CH 29-535 PS Q is the grail watch of grail watch complications the perpetual calander Chronograph that is an application only watch!
What Federico you missed is Breitling's 5 year warranty is only 2 years THEN and ONLY THEN do you get a 3 year extension is if you send it in to be inspected by Breitling for them to "check it over." You think they add this extra step to be nice and warm and fuzzy?
You are right, but I have had experience with this step...Its because its a new movement, so they want to ensure everyting is kosher... I havent seen anyone being charged for doing it though...
+Federico I (Federico Talks Watches Hi just to add the free 2 year check is to ensure gaskets are watertight would expect this is industry standard especially for 5 year warranty .
salut deu sud de la France, je viens d'acquérir Breitling 44mm je pense aussi qu'il est pas mal placé, j'ai aussi Zenith el priméro défy open , sub date et yacht master or acier . j'adore les beaux mouvements d'horlogerie!
Federico, can you do a review on the Tudor BB Chrono? I personally own the watch and i'm super confused why people hate on it so much. They say the "snowflake" hand is too big to read the sub-dials, but if you actually own the watch and use it... it's perfectly fine.
Great review Federico. You're the man! Does Breitling have an in-house 3 hand movement yet? Everything you say is correct except that saying the B01 is a more durable and best chronograph movement is a big call. It needs to be around for a while before it can be crowned as chronograph king. I also like yourself think most Breitling's are a little on the busy side. Keep up your great vids. Cheers :-)
Just, subscribe, i have recently came upon your channel and Tristano,,absolutely love it, i consider myself an incipient watch enthusiast, mostly buy pieces by how they appeal to me , but in doing so i have acquired some pretty rare and descent pieces ,,want to get in touch with you to relate a story about the the iconic Rolex Panama Canal..that might interest you...once more love your show,,,your advice has helped me a lot
Indeed it does... It too is a great movement... But the fact that the breitling has a much longer power reserve, longer service intervals and costs about 30% (pre discount, much more potentially), it can't be scoffed at...
+Federico I (Federico Talks Watches) the power reserve on the Rolex is longer , it's 72 hours . 2 hours longer then the B01, don't get me wrong the B01 is a great movement ... But the Rolex movement is just da best....
I never understand how these watches come with such little warranty, I mean really sub 5 years as the norm for watches that cost several thousand dollars? If its such good quality it should be at least 10.
of course, because you're idiot! Rolex Daytona is as good as B01 but it cost more than 2x the price b01. B01 has been out since 2010/2011 and it has been proven to be reliable. 7750 is no doubt good, but it's old technology and it's nothing to shout about. You're comparing an old 1998 1.8 Litre Toyota Corolla engine to Audi 2.0 TFSI engine. Of course reliability toyota will win purely on simplicity but which one has the most efficient and advance tech DUH!
hmmm... mechanical chronos are significantly more expensive... There isn't really an SKX of chronographs... The speedmaster reduced is a pretty decent value...
Proud owner of two Breitlings. One of them with that movement. Chronomat B01 42, Bentley. Amazing watch and super happy to have it! The other one is an Avenger Blackbird 48. Love Breitling! Rolex can keep their over priced and over hyped stuff. Breitling and Omega all day baby!
I too have an ETA powered Breitling. Nothing to scoff at, but I am really interested in this movement especially now that it's in the new Tudor chrono. Nice breakdown of it's features!
Great video! I own a Navitimer with the B01 movement, so it was great to have such an informative video about it. The Transocean Chronograph 1915 also has an in house movement, the B14. What's interesting about it is that it's a manual wind movement, kind of an homage to the older models, hence the name 1915.
I have been looking at the Breitling Transocean, but instead I keep buying cheap Seiko/Orient watches because it does not hurt to pull the trigger. Federico, would you consider doing a video on the process of moving up to a luxury watch for those of us who are perhaps a bit less experienced or even aware of the concept of paying that kind of money for a watch? I meet guys who tell me that they sell their Rolexes for more than they bought them for (even Authorized Dealer purchases), but it still kind of hits me to spend so much on an item that could so easily be stolen. Perhaps you already have such a video ("Stepping up to Luxury" or similar)? If not, would you consider making one? I know this would be considerably more work than a typical video, but you might also make a transformational video that defines the process. Why not try?
The B01 is a true masterpiece. How can somebody improve that? Send it to Tudor, let them modify it, use it in their chrono's and sell it for about half the money.
B01 has undergone many upgrades due to problems and failures, they have used their buyers as testers. There is a worthwhile adage proven in this case; don't buy the first new model, wait till they iron out all the bugs.
I have both, can really tell the difference of movement. Both are great, I have got the navitimer 01 and omega PO Chrono 45.5, the pushers on OMEGA is more responsive
Great review! It is a great movement. There is a manual wind version BO2 also, put into the Navitimer Cosmonaute ( I own one of those). Keep up the good work.
Frederico, I just purchased the 46mm Navitimer, steel on a croc strap last April. Love the watch. I was also much impressed with my research on the B01 movement, and between the iconic nature of the Navitimer and the new movement, just had to buy it. Great vid.
Hi Federico, I'm not a big Breitling fan and don't like chronographs (because the chrono second hand blocks the twelve 99,5% of the time). But competition is good. Five years of guarantee is a huge improvement for the customers. Best regards, Claus
I think the B01 is cool as hell. I looked at getting a two tone Chronomat for a while - came so close to pulling the trigger - but got put off by depreciation, plus I think the links on the bracelet are just gold-plated, which is a big turn off for me.
Won't hold its value as well as say a Lange or Patek, but for the price... probably the best dive chronograph in its category. B01 is a truly amazing movement and proved to be more accurate and etc compared to the Rolex Daytona (my fathers). Should be a keeper :)
I believe it is the best chronograph and has been for a while now especially with the in house movement. it's been very reliable and keeps time with absolutely no issues.
Have to say I was quite ignorant about this, so thanks Federico. Breitling are underrated as a manufacture. Probably drowned out by the marketing of other brands. I do think that the (latest) 4130 movement is its equal. Comparable power reserve, new superlative chronometer cert, 5 year warranty and 10 year service interval as of last summer. I am not a Rolex fanboy I hasten to add. I came across a navitimer 1884 in a store recently. Black IP case, red accents on the dial, twin register with date at 6 o clock, but cannot find it on the breitling site. You know anything about it old chap?
I'm a brietling fan. Because they make watches larger than rolex. I'm a fan of invicta which is all looks really. But I have 50 to 54mm watches. So breitling has the super avenger which is closest to size I'm used to wearing. But I am eyeballing a super avenger 2. Or a navitimer 46mm. But what is the difference in b01 or b03 movement???
I agree with Arthur Scargill, you know a lot and think that Breitling is going to appreciate in value as people start to recognize that the other chronograph movements have more marketing behind them. Yes, Omega has the silicon escapement and soon all the 9XXX chronograph movements will be antimagnetic, but you Federico point out that Breitling has created a very sturdy movement which is the most important feature after all and so much more in a sports watch. Thanks for the review.
Got my hands on a Breitling B01 AB0114 Chronomat 30th anniversary addition. Breitling is not usually my cup of tea either, usually very flashy, all polished watches, but this 41mm airborne with the black canvas strap is pretty spectacular, even almost 5 years after this video came out. Also, a cool feature you didn't mention, the movement features a date set protection feature, so you can set the date at any time of day without any hazard to the movement. As far as I know, that is a feature exclusive the B01...
I bought the new iteration, a month ago. Super happy 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤ Also, boy, you know how to big up a watch, of course you got the facts on your side. Thank you. ❤❤
The B01 is indeed a great movement, I have the Navitimer B01 limited, myself. Anyhow, it is not correct, this is „the first in house movement“ Breitling ever made. In the past they did their own, this is only the first in the resent past!
Federico is the type of guy that will have you buying a luxury watch so your wrist won't be naked while you wait for your other watch to be cleaned. .....And you'll be poopy inside because the watch he sold you is better than the one you brought in. #TeamFed
This is one of the best "technical " watch videos that I've seen. I recently helped a friend when he was choosing a new navitimer, he went for the GMT ETA movement, had we had the info you just provided , I would have steered him towards the in house movement. Great video.
I haven’t owned any breitling watch but Navitimer has been in my eyes very beautiful from childhood on the wrist of classy pilots it’s pure class it’s not all about the movement or those technical things. The watch in my and many people’s opinion is men’s jewels so it should be aesthetically beautiful while it’s technically attractive. I love breitling 😍😍
Great video, as usual. The info on the new movement is interesting, and I wonder what impact it will or might have on the competitors' products in the future. Regarding Breitling favorites: I am not particularly fond of their styling. I don't think that the bezels have a good look; however, I do like some of the Navitimers and the Montbrillant even though they are a bit busy.
I wish they would expand the b01 to their superocean and colt lines. I know that would make these watches substantially pricier, but the colt, superocean, and avenger series are their best looking watches today aside from the bentley and navitimer.
This guy skipped many facts. 1. ETA got fed up with many unjustified criticisms so they decided to limit its sales to other watchmakers. 2. To increase the power reserve, make the spring longer which, in turn, requires more windings. 3. It's cool to make your own movements but cost will also increase, e.g. expect to pay 2k to 3k more for a Breitling Navitimer 01 vs A23322 with ETA 7750. 4. B01 is a reverse engineering of ETA 7750 + their own improvements = cost increase.
1. ETA does not care about criticisms... They are a business, they limited the supply so they can over charge and control supplies of watches made from other brands... 2. Extra winding? Sure I guess, but it makes almost no difference... The watch is automatic. I do not see this as a problem AT ALL... 3. You are 100% right, in-house cost more, because they have to cover the price of R &D 4. The B01 IS NOT reversed engineered... It is an entirely new architecture.... and it is superior.... I have no idea where you got this idea from...
One small nitpick. The Breitling you have pictured at 3:39 is the Breitling Transocean Chronograph 38 which does not use the in-house movement, but uses the ETA 2892/A2. Only the larger 43mm Transocean chronographs use the B01 in-house movement.
The Daytona has a column wheel and a vertical clutch and is regulated to -2 + 2 accuracy. It's pretty darn nice...I personally think the pushers on the Breitling Chronomat and Navitimer require WAY to much effort to push them in and it is gritty feeling. The Transocean is a step up but the pushers still need a bit of a hefty push similar to a speedmaster that does not have a column wheel even though the transocean uses the B01. I am also not a big fan of Breitling service reputation.
Daytona movement is FANTASTIC, but the fact that the breitling has a longer power reserve, longer service intervals and cost SIGNIFICANTLY less than the daytona, makes it a pretty appealing proposition...
Thanks for the video +Frederico I I like Breitling designs but the external AR coatings kill most of the watches for me. Are external AR deal breakers for you as they are for me?
Federico, it's awesome to hear someone talking about watches who is passionate about the topic and, also knows what he's talking about! Great work, keep it going!
