Brella Shield review: is it better than the Brella Shade? [297] 

I got my Shield a few weeks ago at Walmart during Oregon's super heatwave. Used it today for the first time (90+ degrees). It fits my 2013 KIA Soul very well. The mirror doesn't even come into play. And when we came out of the store the inside of the car was very noticeably cooler than when we used any other variety of sunshields. Now to see how durable it is going to be. Thanks for your review. Gave me durability issues to watch for.

I purchased one I liked it but it only lasted 3 weeks it broke where it hooks in between the spokes I was not happy I wasted $ 20.00

Mine broke already!!! I used it less than 10 times. The cheap plastic cap that keeps the top of the canopy in its place broke, and it will no longer lock in place to keep the canopy shield open. Also, the fabric was so thin, I thought it was unlikely it would last very long. Another concern, was that the end of the spokes protruded out too far which made me worry that they might eventually poke a hole in my sun visors. I thought I would be happy if it lasted one summer. Also, the brella shield is very awkward to close, it does not close all the way like an actual umbrella does. The top part of the canopy needs to be manually folded upwards before you can secure it with the strap, which you have to dig for out of the folds of fabric. I don't want a replacement as I know it is a cheap product and not just a one-off defect. As far as a refund goes. To RMA the item, you have to call them and they will require you to send it back via UPS. My time is worth more than the trouble it would take to box it up and pay to send it back just to get a portion of my payment back, so I'll just take the loss. As usual, the brella shield is just one more product that makes me suspect the quality of any As Seen On TV product. Don't waste your time on this brand.

Yeah I always have to take my mirror off to get it in place. Wish I had the version with a cut out for that. But it fits in my mini van great and is slightly easier than the fold out ones

Have you tried the kymyko window shield? I was thinking of getting some brand of an umbrella shield, but after your review not sure?

You had it upside down. The Velcro strap is at the top of the shield. It is not a perfect rectangle. The loose fabric on both bottom corners is designed for covering the bottom corners of the windshield. It cannot go behind the mirror. You don’t need to apply much pressure with the visors. The stem can snap off where it connects at the top.

So it wasn't working for my scion xb but I decided to wrap the velcro tight over the mirror before I fully opened it. It works perfect now

I need full coverage like the accordion style provide. These are not for me and would drive me crazy. 😊 Thank you for saving me some grief. 🙂

Just discovered your great presentation. Honda Accord. Have had my Sharper Image BRELLA SHADE going on 3 weeks. Use it everyday and it's great. I agree that the mirror cutout is needed. Without opening cutout it would not fit.

The velcro strap is also to go around your mirror to hod the shade up instead of the sun visors.

just bought one of these yesterday at Walmart. It is a bit of a hassle trying to get it under the window. but after a few minutes it does it's job.

I had a very hard time getting the umbrella handle extended, I had to manually push it open from the inside. BTW I have a 98 Honda civic and it fits perfectly

Mirror was in the way but I lowered both the driver and passenger side visors to hold it into place. Works perfectly

Thanks for doing this review. I haven't ordered one yet, but called BrellaShield to ask for the dimensions and was told it is 56" x 31", if that helps anyone out there. After your review, and even though I got the measurements direct from the company, I'm concerned that it won't provide full coverage in my vehicle. Jeff, what are the measurements of the one you reviewed?

Did you flip it over? You were trying to put it in your windshields upside-down. The side with the velcro strap goes on top. You can actually strap it around your rear-view mirror.

I l! I have a '17 Toyo Camry and it fits perfectly! I had to open it outside the car though,.. because trying to do it inside the car was a pain! I live in Florida and something like this is soooooo necessary. I'm pitching the old cardboard one!! ;-)

You don't have to remove the mirror at all. Instead of trying to fold the visors down Simply swing them out and then back in over top of it

It did not fit fully in my WRX. The handle against the front of the climate controls stopped it from covering the bottom of the windshield. It will stop heat, but the dash is not fully protected.

I bought a Brella Shied and really like it. Then again, I've only used it several times. If you look at the picture on the box, you will notice that it does not go behind the rearview mirror. Mine fits perfectly on my Ford Focus, '05. Install it with the velcro strap at the top and it will fit better.

Did the BrellaShade fit the car that the Brella Shield did not?

Won't fit my VW Jetta will have to return. bummer.

Thinking about an umbrella shield for a panoramic sun roof. Sounds like a money maker because there are thousands of newer vehicles in need of a shield for large sunroofs

Hey Jeff are you a motor expert well I know my dad's clippers vibrate it sounds like 120 hertz or 60 hertz or something and when he move my hair across the blade or something it doesn't slow down at all it just sounds like the same hurts and my dad think there's a motor in there it doesn't spin it moves back and forth and I said what kind of motor does that maybe an oscillator or something

I just received my umbrella shield , sending it back it is not how they show it on tv. By the time I got it to somewhat cover my 2019 toy. Camary I was sweating bullets. For me it's no good.

I have two cars . I bought an umbrella shield for each car . Both broke within a months time . Cheaply made , not meant to last any length of time in my opinion. Won’t buy another one .

Maybe the Brella Shield is for windowa other than the front.

Just get a pair of scissors and cut it down for the rearview mirror.
