3rd August 2024 marks the 50th anniversary of Sir Brendan Foster breaking the 3000 metres world record at Gateshead Stadium!🙌
⌚In 1974, the Great North Run founder clocked a remarkable 07:35.20 to beat the record previously set by Emiel Puttemans, and etched his name into the record books.
With over 10,000 in attendance and a track laid just days beforehand, the event marked a significant milestone in athletics both locally and internationally! 🏃‍♀️
