Brent Mason is one of the titans of the Nashville studio scene who's impact on the "Nashville Sound" cannot be overstated. In part 2 of our Truetone Lounge interview, Brent discusses his iconic Tele playing with Alan Jackson, and the thrills and challenges of working with Mutt Lang on the Shania Twain albums. Mason also discusses the changes in the recording process over the last 30 years, and how they have affected both music and the music makers. Stay tuned for part 3, which includes gear discussion.

Thank you for this. I'm probably speaking for everybody who watched these, but I would love Brent to expand his solo catalog.

I tell ya...country music was blessed to have Brent Mason come along and share his great talent in Nashville and across the air waves via all of his great recordings. The ordinary person has no clue how much he has contributed. You gotta be a musician or an artist to really appreciate what he has done. Live long Brent Mason!

I grew up with this guy. I had to have every record he was on. I had to figure out every lick that I could lol. I played in a working country band in Fla when he was pumping out the hits and he didn't stop! What a time.. He very well may of had more impact on country music then anyone we will ever see! His signature is on more hits and number one records than anyone! This guy is just the best! Thank You SO MUCH for these videos. Brent Mason, you are country music............BTW I had Jim Roth hot rod the PU`s on a few of my Tele`s just to have that Brent Mason sound!

ok, waiting for 3. He's been interviewed a bunch of times but I don't think anyone has drilled down into the history he represents, really connects the dots for me plus shows his fun personality.thks

It’s really awesome that you asked in-depth on his work with artists like Alan Jackson and Brooks and Dunn, it’s stuff like that that is SO difficult to find interviews on. It would have been such a shame to have a guy like Brent NOT talk about his work with those artists-his guitar parts on some of those songs were really influential to guitarists like myself. This channel is quickly becoming my favorite corner of RU-vid. The general public massively undervalue how much guys like Brent, Derek Wells, Rob McNelley, etc. really influence the sounds of records coming out of Nashville. Most people see “Alan Jackson” or someone else’s name on a record as an artist and just assume that he must have written all the parts that people played. Also, the “there’s only 5 parts you can play on a country record” part was just hysterical. I love that you kept him on it for a minute, too!

These long-form interviews really allow artists to open up about their music. They are a cut above most interviews I have seen. I don't want to pat Zac Childs (and Truetone) on the back too much, but he does his homework, knows about equipment, asks intelligent questions and seems to know things about the artists and the Nashville scene that they don't even know themselves. :) I have heard Brent Mason inteviewed before, and I never knew he was funny. Another thing I like is that you are not "selling" your product. The quality involved here inspires me to check out Truetone equipment. Some of us music/ guitar nerds really appreciate your work. :)

Hi, this series is just great great and Brent seems to be such a nice, easy and unpretentious guy to talk to that it complements his merits as the guitar master that he is in a really pleasant way. Made me listen to that "New Nashville Cats" album again after really some time and I'm very happy having been reminded of it!

Brent was too nice when talking about the digitalization of recording music. Autotune, programmed drums, the ease of importing samples, etc. That shit killed the soul of music. It's why modern music has been so blah for 20 years and it's why studios have been dying. Now they're working on artificial intelligence to create even more lifeless music. From the days of Chess Records, to Muscle Shoals, to the era of the Wrecking Crew, to Sound City studios. Those were the golden years, and the 90's were the last great decade of it.
