Brent Musburger not only worked with Vin Scully, but he also did NBA games on CBS with Bill Russell (most times joined by Hot Rod Hundley)

I never realized that Vinny did go thru the batting order of the opposing team and say something about the players stats and personal life until Brent brought it up. Wow. RIP VINNY

A class act indeed. I was a teen in 70s and miss the commentary of Mr. Scully

He would know things about the opposing players that their own home town announcers didn’t know. They would tell him “I never knew that!”

Yes, he always spoke about the opposing players, their managers, etc. Vin made it so that you couldn't "hate" the opposing team because he made it so you couldn't not like that person. He made it so that you respected the other team. He was very impartial (not a homer). And loved the game of baseball.

When watching a Dodgers game that Vin called, he usually provided more info/stories about the opposing team than the Dodgers

This was a terrific interview. I appreciate Brent’s analysis as someone who knew Vin well and can talk about his craft. So true about the numbers and the anecdotes. And what a gentleman Vin was.

Vin's call of Kirk Gibson's WS walk-off home run off Eck in 1984 was the GREATEST single baseball "call" EVER in history....RIP sir.

I remember Game 2 of the 1977 NBA Finals. After the fight broke out, he said something about Julius Erving staying out of it and showing him sitting at mid court. He also made a comment during Game 1 of the 1975 NBA Finals. “Both coaches are black, their assistants are black. Nobody is talking about. That is progress.” Wish we could get back to that type of thinking.
