I love how Star Trek took advantage of every talent of its actors. Singing, dancing, Brent's skill as a character actor. Even Stewart's background as a Shakespearean.
Dr Crusher teaching tap dancing... Johnathan Frakes really plays the Trombone, Robert Picardo's opera singing Sevens beautiful voice, The one they should have included also was Tuvok... not only do I see Tim Russ's Vulcan as the best Vulcan ever portrayed on screen in 50 years next to Nimoy, he is an absolute daemon of a guitar player, real shame they couldnt fit that in somehow.
I loved this from Nemesis. Data sorta seemed awkward, as if he was trying to figure out the tune and how to sing it, like he didn't have the soul or feeling down. And then all of a sudden, he caught his swing and settled into it just fine, accompanied by the band, and smiles all around. I loved that scene.
I think its rather to establish how much Data has changed, how he is able to cause emotional tension at the beginning to contrast with his spectacular performance to make it seem even better, which shows how Data's understanding of human nature has increased so much to even understand something so minute as that.
I can just imagine Will and Deanna's wedding, instead of doing the cut off during the song to the next part of the movie, him and her dancing while Data and the band play the song
The funny part about Will and Deanna's wedding is that Brent was not singing that song as Data. They had such a marvelous singer right there and they didn't use him. So sad.
@John Rayne While I do agree the new show is far darker and less trekkie than the rest, I do think they kept Picard largely the same. Same optimistic persuasive peace maker he always was. I personally think that made the show really good. It shows that even when shit is literally falling apart, there is still always someone who is able to look ahead and find a different solution. "change is the essential process of all existence." This way the show can speak to a new generation and still give an optimistic ending even if we have to go through hell to get there. Thats at least my 2 cents.
He has 2 albums. It is on one of them. Can't remember which. I go on youtube and listen to both of them. I see no reason to buy them, as I can listen almost anytime on youtube. He also played in 1776 as one of our forefathers.
Just watched this movie for the first time in years and immediately stopped the flick and added this song to my acoustic set. There seems to be an endless pool of great classic songs we forget about. What a fun tune. Folks will dig this one for sure. It made me happy to hear it.
knowing Data and all of his stored memories officially died in canon, i cant listen to this. who knew the most heartbteaking song of all time sounded like this...
BLUE SKIES Writer(s): Irving Berlin Blue skies, smilin' at me Nothin' but blues skies do I see Bluebirds singing a song Nothin' but bluebirds all day long Never saw the sun shinin' so bright Never saw things goin' so right Noticin' the days hurrying by When you're in love, my how they fly Blue days, all of them gone Nothin' but blue skies from now on
I'm sure someone will create a mix..starting with Brent....then bleeding into Isa's voice. Kinda like the Nat King Cole and Natalie Cole song a few years ago.
Warren I found out through ScreenCrush that it’s sung by Isa Briones, who plays Dahj/Soji. I don’t know what it is about Star Trek TNG, but man.. it’s no coincidence that Data’s daughter is a great singer too! Isa’s rendition is so beautifully haunting!
I come back here almost once a day, everyday...its an almost ritual for me. I’m glad I was born in the age of the record; the recording...so I can come here and listen to this fantastic song.
Thank you Commander Data, .. . Brent Spinner will be forever remembered as an Android with the 'human heart', he strives to be human with his utmost sacrifice of giving up his life for his Cap. - Jean-Luc. (in the movie Nemesis 2002). Thank you for being funny, outrageously naive, being child-like, and a true friend. - - as human I try to learn from you, Season 1 Episode 10- finally gives you a Pitch Perfect send-off, goodbye Commander Data, you will always be remembered,. Blue skies ,
Every so often this song, more specifically Brent Spiner singing this as Data gets stuck in my head. I love how they show Data’s awakening throughout TNG and the movies. 🥰
I though I heard Spiner say that the full recording of this song was long lost to history at a convention a few years ago! I am so glad you uploaded this! Thank you so much!
Julian Gamboa I would do anything to meet Brent once. His work as a singer and actor is great. I am glad to see people who still know him and his work :) Thank you for your comment!
he's got a little bit of Frank Sinatra mixed with a lot of Michael Crawford, and that's a freakin' compliment. I love him as Data, but hell, he's really a freaking good singer. you go, Brent! oh, and Sheldon, lay off the man.
Of all the versions I've heard, this is by far my favourite. I like Star Trek but I'm no Trekkie, It is fair to say Brent Spiner had a calling to music too!!!
I think his other songs are better than Frank Sinatra too! What a crooner! Who would've thought that a liking for Star Trek would lead one to discover the ultimate a new music genre (new to me) of the most romantic kind! 🥰
@@lindaweaving8917 Brent singing this to Frank is more likely to win over younger listeners than Frank Sinatra. At least, he's paying homage to Frank by carrying over his music today. I didn't listen to Frank much (except to listen to his daughter sing a short tune on the programme, " Man From U.N.C.L.E.", but I was more interested in David McCallum-who could also sing and play various instruments, and conduct like his own father-who played Illya Kuryakin and later Ducky on "NCIS". He too made 4 albums of music from an earlier era, a few songs and the others conducted by him).
@@virginiaconnor8350 I have heard of Brent's love for Robert Goulet. Would love to hear a rendition of his for "Call me Irresponsible". Would be great.
Lyndwyn Soong He is also a great comedian. The man is multi talented. Shame he has not been recognized for his talent by more people beyond his role on Star Trek.
Brent is so dammmm smooth, like tony bennett or perry como. love his sound!!! he is a hunk on his worst day, loved him in night court! sooo creative! pure genius!
Is this REAL??? I must have spent HOURS searching for a version of this that I liked as much as Spiner's without once thinking there might be a version of his performance from the movie COMPLETE AND IN THE CLEAR! I'm tickled pink over finding this. AWESOME!!!!!!
We did a swing routine for our wedding dance and spent ages looking for the perfect song. Only later we discovered that Brent Spiner actually did a recording of the whe song. It would have been perfect. Dammit dammit dammit dammit
I heard this song going on in my 15 year old brother's room and I loved it so much that I loaded it up and here I put this comment. Thanks to my older brother!
I know this song for many decades. I never really cared for this song. However, Thanks to the use of Data using this song in the Picard show It has more meaning for me... I think that Data was going to Blue Skies after his death..... He finally became Human..... Very touching..
I just saw the last episode of Star Trek Picard, and... I rarely get choked up, and I was choked up. To use the version they used, is a beautiful, reflective, fitting 'bookend' to this one's hopeful optimism). If you think about it, this version (in Star Trek Nemisis) is featured early in the story, as Ms Briones' is in the end.
@Bob Thornton It's too bad Stewart and the original cast didn't get more influence over the show. Picard is like any other Kurtzman show. Kurtzman failed the fans, and failed Roddenberry's legacy. We need a utopian show right now. Not this dystopian Cyberpunk game of thrones in space(Wouldnt' mind a show like that, just not in Star Trek).
@@charlesrankin1190 pretty sure Patrick had a huge influence on the show. He said he wouldn't come back if it was just the same stuff and I think it was just that. He didn't want another utopia starfleet continuation of his preview career.
Yes I probably said this already but watching Data die during Star Trek Nemesis crushed me to no end it broke my heart 😢I'm so happy that I watched Star Trek Picard knowing that he comes back makes all the difference❤

He is an awesome singer. That moment when a singer is starred in a movie. Then you find out they sing and youre like WHAT!! Same thing with Josh Groban, in The Good Cop. I saw that show and I had no idea he was a singer.
