On the latest Broken Skull Sessions, Stone Cold Steve Austin sat down with one of his greatest rivals, Bret "The Hitman" Hart, to talk about Bret's career, their classic match and double turn at WrestleMania 13 submission match, the Montreal Screwjob, Owen Hart and Bret's feelings about Bill Goldberg. Bret doesn't seem to think much about Goldberg having a place in the WWE Hall of Fame and had some choice words for the man wrestling Roman Reigns at WrestleMania 36.

I love Bret Hart... I really do... he is my favorite of all time... and I love his brutal honesty and he doesn't hold back on what he says more or less... but this is OUT OF LINE... OUT OF BOUNDS... and it makes him look small & bitter in the same process! The way he speaks of Goldberg "ending his career"... he acts like that was the final match of his career... If were going to be honest here, Bret wrestled FOR 3 MORE WEEKS after their Starrcade 1999 match and took additional punishment in the process..... Final Televised Matches: - vs. Goldberg (Starrcade '99 / 12-19-99) - vs. Goldberg (Nitro '99 / 12-20-99) - vs. Chris Benoit (Thunder '99 / 12-23-99) - vs. Jerry Flynn (Nitro '99 / 12-27-99) - segment brawl w/ Sid Vicious (Nitro '00 / 01-03-00) - vs. Terry Funk (Thunder '00 / 01-06-00) - vs. Kevin Nash (Nitro '00 / 01-10-00) - segment brawl w/ nWo vs. Sid Vicious, Chris Benoit, & Terry Funk (Thunder '00 / 01-12-00) Bret took many dangerous bumps to the back of his head during this time period... if he had pulled the plug earlier... he probably could have wrestled a few more years and retired possibly in 2004. But to blame Goldberg entirely is FLAT-OUT IRRESPONSIBLE!
@acidmack1041
@acidmack1041 4 года назад
Not really, he was injured from the kick Goldberg gave him, he did not know he was seriously injured for a whilst after the kick...that is why he continued wrestling. The full impact of the damage that Goldberg's kick had on him did not affect him severely until a couple of years later. Sure, the continued work after the kick would not have helped his injury (Bret has even admitted that before in interviews and in his book) but he did not know how bad the injury actually was at first. So the fault does lie with Goldberg's kick and i highly doubt Bret would pin all the blame on Goldberg if he was not 100% to blame for his injury. We know Bret does not sugar coat things and calls a spade a spade but he does not attack or hate on people for no good reason or just out of spite

The Montreal Screwjob is the most important event in the history of professional wrestling. By finally parting the curtain separating the fans from the business, this event allowed wrestlers to openly discuss their art and craft. They no longer have to counter the longstanding `Fake' charge made by outsiders. They can now make money, long after their retirement, by doing shoot interviews, appearing at fan conventions and writing autobiographies. It's lead to podcasts and RU-vid shows where fans and or wrestlers can discuss the various issues surrounding the industry as well as interview their favourites from the past and the present. Bret Hart talks about this event because people ask him about it and are interested in it. And they should be because it's an absorbing drama that changed the industry forever.

Bret of course wishes he could still go he never wanted to leave the wwf to begin with then he had his career ended! And all of the sudden his stroke and cancer prevent even a part Time comeback now does he resent the others ...only the one she already disliked flair Goldberg hhh Bischoff Shawn a bit. However that’s one of my favourite things about Bret. He will always do what he wants and be honest about things no matter who’s in control where other guys just kiss ass and say what they want the company to hear like Ric flair who goes back and forth with wcw was the best wcw was a joke, or I’m so tired of saying hogan the biggest it ends tonight! And then a day later HOGAN is ws ad slayed will be the biggest thing ever in our business.. then flair with ripping foley and savage in his book for no reason at all then comes back after awhile and chngsez his tune there too. Flair also said what is TNA? TNA is a joke ...says he will never ever wrestle again after his tenth retirement and gets the single biggest goodbye in his late fifties someone ever could if for especially since he didn’t even make his name or do much for wwf/wwe at all he’s the guy in charges favourite wrestler HHH (and ric) of course goes to TNA a year and a half later going back on TNA bashing and his retirement.

Dexx Baker, who knows what Bret would have become had he stuck around, and not been injured. As much as I like Bret Hart’s in ring persona, he’s a flip flopper, and I question a lot of his sincerity. Especially when Owen Hart’s death happened, he talked about how WCW was such a class act for their support during Owen’s tragic (and unnecessary) passing. All the while he ripped the WWF up and down, but years later he comes back to work with them, having that horrendous WrestleMania match with Vince, and beating The Miz for the United States Title? Please...
@MixerMadness
@MixerMadness 4 года назад
R. José De Fraga wow, that’s a weird perception man because if anything Bret is literally the most sincere wrestler I’d ever heard he will always tell you his true opinion. OF.COURSE his own perception of things will change over time especially when it has to do with trauma like owen stuff. The dude literally had a stroke that messes with Brian chemistry he’s always been a straight shooter. Also what’s with talking about his horrendous mania match, blame Vince for booking that Bret had no control and was limited to just punches for the most part due to lost of his motor functions l, Vince booked the match way too long and what does the miz thing have to do with anything? It was just a thing thst happened since he forgave wwe and wanted to put the past behind him. Ps- how he felt about wcw when in wcw about owen was obvious gratitude because of how he felt in the time because they let him take time off and were respectful for the most part. But now that wcw is dead everyone who ever said a good word about them and had some kind of iffy sketchy feeling had trashed what they did for them after they died from Ric flair to hogan and on and on (much more then Bret) especially since hart hates how Bischoff boiled him and I don’t blame him for That. What you’re Not taking into consideration with these things your saying he’s flip flopping about is that people change as time goes on and they forgive. If you come along and watch all these RU-vid videos of course it’s not going to make sense because your seeing Bret a my different parts of his life. He forgive the wwe but always has resentment for how they treated him at the end and still holds onto a part of that but he’s over it now. He’s come to peace with it through all the raggedy he’s been through. Read his book if you want his honest opinion because he goes through it all and believe it or not his emotions are completely linear and consistent. Of course he bashed the wwf up and down because they fucked him over and made fun of him in the process with having his bitter rival beat him without his move where he’s a hero and without him knowing? In stoke kayfabe and self image mattered? Anyway that’s a whole other story but remember the midget? Maybe you don’t because.... Ps- you can kind of tell You haven’t watched beers career live when you put emphasis into the miz and McMahon matches and say things like “who knows what Bret would have become” (and if that’s the case it’s fine not everyone has to of watched Bret live but man dude...he wss in the wwf for a decade and a half and wcw a few years and before that worked In japan and stampede for a decade. What he became is literally a top five wrestler of all time in the ring and a top ten to fifteen at the lowest name of all time.

TheBMan, Bret never had to come back and do that horrendous late 2000s/early 2010s angle with Vince. Period. I personally feel that Martha Hart has every right to feel the way she does about the hard feelings towards WWE. Bret Hart referred to her as “making an ass out of herself” over her refusal to work with WWE and that “she has to move on”. I’ve read a lot of nasty things directed towards her for merely standing her ground and observing her rights in the matter. And Bret who was by her side when it happened goes and sings a different tune when back on Vince’s payroll...please. As I’ve stated to others, I appreciate what I see on air and in the confines of Kayfabe from guys like Bret but any of these discussions and interviews are just eye rolling.

We see Nash or Hall get laid out on the big screen. "Sting" says he's right, but it's not Sting. It's Brett. The camera follows him to the ring and Hogan is freaking out. Real Sting descends from the raptors. Scorpion Death Drop on Hogan. Dual Sharpshooters on Hogan and the crooked ref to go off the air.

BOTH GREAT CLASSIC MATCHES. BUT BOTH DIFFERENT STYLES. A LADDER WAS USED AND THAT MADE THE MATCH. BRET AND OWEN DIDN'T NEED A LADDER. THEY TOLD A GREAT STORY OF THE YOUNGER BROTHER UPSETTING THE OLDER BROTHER. BRETS MATCHES VS AUSTIN ARE AMAZING. THERE WM13 MATCH IS CONSIDERED 1 OF THE BEST EVER. BRET VS BULLDOG SUMMERSLAM IS AMAZING. BRET VS MR. PERFECT ARE ALSO OVERLOOKED. THEY ARE GREAT MATCHES. BRET TOLD AMAZING STORYS IN HIS MATCHES. HE MADE THE 93 KOTR PPV BY HAVING 3 DIFFERENT MATCHES VS 3 DIFFERENT OPPONENTS. EVEN A REGULAR PPV MATCH VS RAZOR WAS GREAT. BRET HAD A GREAT MATCH VS PIPER AT WM 9. NOT ONLY WAS BRET A GREAT WRESTLER - HE WAS PROBABLY A BETTER STORY TELLER IN THE WAY HE SET UP HIS MATCH. HE MAY WELL JUST BE THE BEST THERE IS THE BEST THERE WAS AND THE BEST THERE WILL EVER BE. I agree with Solomonster, saying Bret vs Hennig 1993 KotR was better than Summerslam '91. At Summerslam, Hennig was already injured. Prichard says in 93 they put Hennig in 3 Qualifying Matches with Doink (first 2 being a draw) to see "if that bastard" can go. The moment they delivered at KotR, they knew! For me, the Summerslam Match although had a big time feeling, because it was when Bret putting himself quit on the map as a singles wrestler, winning the IC title in front of his mom and dad. But the whole tournament 93 was a classic. In all 3 matches Bret never used the sharpshooter once to win a match. The story they told was good, and Bret selling his injuries was perfect.

@@bootydaddy555 No, it wasn't realistic, because matches don't go that long without somebody getting pinned. If it was, there would be 30 minute time limit draws on Raw constantly. An ironman match should have the first pinfall around the same time a match generally ends, which is rarely longer than 20 minutes. It takes people out of a match when the match type changes how they wrestle THAT dramatically, especially one that doesn't alter the style of the match at all.

Goldberg was a guy that just wanted to make the matches look believable, it wasn't like he meant to go into the matches intentionally trying to end people's careers. You know how many people the Steiners hurt in matches? Sid Vicious? Owen almost ended Austin's career but did anyone give Owen crap about that? Even though we all know Owen didn't mean to do it same with Goldberg not meaning to end Bret's career but people shits all over the guy. I think some in the industry was jealous because Goldberg was able to do in his first 6 months into his career that most couldn't do and that was to become a top draw in prowrestling. I heard many interviews of others complaining how Goldberg didn't work his way to the top but the bottom line dude got over organically in such a short time he can't help that. Bret Hart is a much better wrestler than Goldberg and had many more classics, but to say he doesn't belong in the HOF is bullshit when Vince has tried to create his own version several times throughout the years and wrestlers incorporated some of his moves into their movesets, especially the spear.

There was a comment made around the 19 minute mark about Bret and Shawn being a notch below Hogan and Austin. I do not disagree as my opinion only seems more then a far comment. I do feel that if you had a era in in the company you are a big star. There was the Bruno era of the 60's and 70's, the Pedro Morales era of the early 70's, the Bob Backlund era of the late 70's early 80's, the Hogan era mid 80's to early 90's and then I consider the mid 90's to be the Bret Hart era from 92 to 97 with Austin and Rock era from 98 to about 02/03 and then the Cena era. Bret may not be as big a star as Hogan or Austin which again I do not disagree but the New Generation era is the Bret Hart era.

It wasn't about who jobbed to who in 1992 though, back when they were friends. Obviously Bret vs Shawn in 1997 was worth more money to both men than their rivalries in 1990 & 1992. They could have had multiple matches in 97, 98 and made a lot of money off it had they gotten along better. I mean that time period is thought of as one of wrestling a beat rivalries and other than some triple threat house show matches (which Shawn always won so maybe the win count is more than three) they only wrestled one match on TV or ppv and that was the screwjob.

In a perfect world booking Bret Hart in wcw.....it was so obvious how it should have been done. Bret should've been the next big babyface to take on the nwo. Bret hart in wcw 98 should've went like this Bret should've debuted on nitro after Starrcade. His first feud in wcw should have been either with Kevin Nash and Scott Hall in a singles feud or formed a new version of the hart foundation (bret, Benoit and Jericho) or have ric flair induct bret as a new member of the horsemen and Took on the Wolfpac (hall,nash and xpac) .....due to thier association with Shawn Michaels. Bring up the screwjob and everything . After that feud.....he goes for the wcw championship vs Sting at spring stampede or bash at the beach 98. Hogan and Savage cost him the match. Sting and Bret vs Hogan and Savage on nitro. Sting gives bret another shot at the WCW Championship at the Great American Bash 98. Bret wins the WCW Championship ..... Then do Bret Vs Hogan at Fall Brawl. ....Bret defeats Hogan.....rematch at Halloween havoc. ....Bret defeats Hogan again. Randy Savage, Kevin Nash or Scott Hall wins WW3. Bret Hart vs Kevin Nash, Scott Hall or Savage at Starrcade 98......bret loses the championship at Starrcade. To one of them. Bret in wcw 99 Bret then feuds ric flair for control of the horsemen . Flair vs bret at superbrawl. Bret Hart wins control over the horsemen. Disband them and reforms the hart foundation with bulldog, benoit and Jericho. Then they go after the NWO. .... Bret wins the wcw championship again from Kevin Nash at superbrawl. Hogan gets the championship back at spring stampede. Bash at the beach 99...bret and bulldog win the wcw tag team titles from Harlem Heat or the Outsiders. Goldberg wins the wcw championship nitro in the summer and relinquishes the wcw United States championship. ... Wcw hold an 8 man us championship tournment. Bret vs Konan Eddie vs Booker T Henning vs Sting Raven vs Jericho 2nd round Bret Hart vs Eddie Guerrero Sting vs Raven Finals at the great American bash Sting vs Bret Hart Bret Wins the wcw united states championship Bret Hart then feuds with Scott Steiner for the united States championship. Scott hall costs bret the title . Then at fall Brawl war games 99 Bret joins team WCW . Sting, Luger, Bret, DDP and The Giant Vs Hall, Nash, Savage, Steiner, and Henning Team WCW wins Bret Hart and Bulldog vs The Outsiders at Halloween Havoc Outsiders regain the tag team titles. Starrcade 99: wcw vs nwo the final chapter. If wcw wins the majority of the matches vs the nwo and if goldberg defeats hogan. The nwo will disband forever..if the nwo wins .....wcw will be folded into the nwo. Starrcade 98 Card 8 man tag team match Norton, muta, chono, Bagwell vs the Horsemen ( flair, Eddie, Makenko, rick Steiner) WCW Tag Team Championship The Outsiders vs Benoit/Jericho Wcw United States Championship Scott Steiner vs DDP Street Fight Randy Savage vs Bret Hart Wcw Television Title Booker T vs Jeff Jarrett Submission Match Sting vs Curt Henning Wcw world heavyweight championship Goldberg vs Hogan
