I'm just a hobbyist with geology, so can someone out there tell me if my understanding is correct. The term, "sills" refers to magma intrusions in between the layers of sedimentary beds. "Dikes" refers to magma intrusions into random cracks into igneous or metamorphic rock. And "veins" refers to heated water pushing through cracks into any rock, precipitating out minerals. So, dikes and sills would look more granitic or even basaltic, where as veins would appear to be just one or two crystalized minerals. I'm just trying to figure out what I'm seeing when I'm out in the wilds.
