Bought this machine two years ago and it was money well spent. Once you learn about the right grind for your beans you can brew great coffee. Use it every morning and it has transformed my enjoyment of coffee.
i got one of these machines and i really like it, i wash my diffuser out before and after use by running a single shot over the empty basket, it also helps heat up for use ,i have set the concave to 3 inside the grinder and use 7 on the fine-corse adjustment wheel on the outside i get 6 double shot cups from the hopper before having to refill, always have a damp cloth handy to wipe the milk wand as well as the inside of the diffuser holder in the machine. and i aim to run a pressure at 11o'clock on the gauge. i use filtered water to fill the tank even though it has a filter inside. my water tastes better after being filtered then what comes out of my tap . the deffuser funnel is a must for not making mess under the grinder as it holds the peak of grounds before tamping. love good coffee and this makes great coffee at home
This is branded as Breville in the USA and it a usually $599. I’m a coffee novice, but I love mine and since I’ve been home on parental leave, I’ve been able to make a lot of espresso. It’s really user friendly and it’s a great machine for the price.
Salut & merci for your honest review, I agree on all points. I have had my Barista Express for 1 week now and I regret nothing.... this tastes like my quality coffee shop down the road ;)
Bonjour, Meilleurs Voeux a toi et ta famille. Thanks for commenting. That was the main reason why I got it as well. Coffee shop experience at home. I am releasing a new video tomorrow about what I dislike about the coffee machine. Which coffee brand do you use for your coffee machine? Don't forget to hit the subscribe button on my channel :)
I watched this video and bought a sage barista express. I both drink good coffee and record quality videos. I would recommend it to anyone who wants an espresso machine.
Thank you for your review! I agree with most of your comments... however, I think you are the first French man who speaks English quite correctly... impressive!!!! Really impressive!!!! Congratulations for your English pronunciation!
Great review and on point. Although if I had to add one thing to the video, it would be to maybe not hold your portafilter with ready coffee for too long idly set on the machine without pulling a shot, since the shower-head is hot and it will burn your grounds. Other than that really great advises and maybe you can try a naked portafilter, because it will help you with improving your shots drastically and the b-roll from it will be amazing. Stay safe and keep on doing good videos!
Hi Boian, happy new year. Thanks for your comment and tip that's really helpful. Noted 👍 i ordered a bottomless portafilter and should arrive next week. I actually cannot wait 😀 which coffee home set up du you have? Make sure to subscribe to my channel I have more videos to come. Stay safe. Thanks for the kind words
@@TheFrenchReview I have had the same setup for around 6 months 'til now and it has been really great learning so many new things through it. That's why I was quite intrigued when I saw a lot of the same things reflected in your video 😊
Hi Boian, I now have a naked portafilter and really enjoy it. It also looks really good on the coffee machine. You can see it in my latest video today at 6:30pm GMT. Please do not hesitate if you have video ideas you'd like to see. 🙂
I steam the milk first, finishing by positioning the jug on the spill-tray for a rolling swirl. While that's happening I grind the coffee, tap and distribute (don't use a tamp anymore), by which time the milk is done. Then I pull a fresh shot and add the milk. Quick and easy.
Thanks for the message Adam. Are you just using your distributor without tamping at all and you get perfect shots? Don't forget to subscribe to my channel. I have more videos coming up each week. 🙂
@@TheFrenchReview I don't tamp any more as I have the distributor set to the right depth and it compresses the puck nicely and more consistently than a tamp. I roast by own coffee from green beans so it's hard to be completely consistent with shots as I am changing up my roasts and beans etc - but definitely more flavour than what I experience in most cafes (so I rarely buy coffees anymore).
Hey Adam, That's amazing about your distributor. I might give it a go. How do you roast your own coffee beans? I just got a coffee roaster machine for my birthday and planning on playing with it and share it on my channel. I am really excited about it. So for you, roast your own beans it's definitely better and a no brainer? Thanks,
@@TheFrenchReview I made a roaster out of an old bread maker and a variable temperature heat gun. I have thermocouples in the bean mass and the airflow so I can log it with the free Artisan software on a laptop. I have a vid of my set-up on my channel if you want to have a look.
Hi I was really enjoying your video but no sound as the video hit 9:38. Could you please check? I would really like to understand the coffee making part. Thanks.
Cuz it’s a monster. That’s why it makes noise. A corvette is fast, it’s not built to be silent. The machine is a workhorse. It’s not that it’s a single boiler why the steam wand takes time it’s because it’s thermal block boiler. It’s slower. The other sound is the purge, it does this because after your froth you can go right to pulling a shot. The new version of your model is the pro. It’s thermal jet. Heats in under 3 secs.
Single or dualboiler? Afaik its neither. There is no boiler in any Sage/Breville/Gastroback machines except the 2 top model DualBoiler or Oracle models Every other model is either Thermojet/Thermocoil heated. Other than that, nice little review
Thanks Shar. Really appreciate the comment. It's a great machine, you are going to have so much fun and tasty coffees. Which colour did you go for? I have not videos to come make sure you subscribe to my channel and let me know if there is any topics you would like me to cover. Always happy to help.
Hey Shar, how are you getting on with the dial now? I made this video about the Barista Express, let me know what you think and if you would agree. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-qVA4frN2X_0.html
Hi. Great video but unfortunately we missed the important part about your dose amount. How many grams you use for double shot? I cannot agree with you about the gauge! I am using this machine about 3 years on and gauge always confuses me. I found best flow structure always in higher pressures. I think this machine only suffers with fresh oily beans. Maybe time to invest for separate grinder machine. Thanks.
@@TheFrenchReview I have another one million dollar question: We know how looks the perfect shot with bottomless portafilter. If I can able to get perfect shot by looking and by smooth flowing, is that means that the shot taste perfect as well?
Oh dear, I am now at 3 to 4 cups a day.... I read somewhere we are good as long as we don't drink more than 25 cups. We should be alright haha 😀 How to you make you coffee?
Always do your milk before your coffee. Your coffee ‘dies’ after 6-8 seconds of resting. By this I mean your coffee shot tastes bitter and loses flavour. Always heat milk then queue coffee.
I just went mad. haha. I can't watch this as a serious review because the guy sounds like he is doing a skit in Monty Python. I keep waiting for him to talk in his usual voice, probably British. But I love this coffee machine.
Amazing video, love the accent 😂, just have one problem 9:36 in the video the microphone goes off, so dont know what you are saying it does come on at 12:13 so dont know if its todo with my youtube
Thanks, Adrian, appreciate it. I have been working really hard on that French accent, only tying my best haha 😂Yes, I just realised it, oh boy. I might need to find a way to get the sound back for that part... no ideal. Do you have a Barista Express?
Bonsoir, great instruction and love the accent can I ask what is the scale you are using? It looks a perfect size. I just bought this machine in black after doing the same research as you did ( I always take ages and research products like this )
Bonsoir Stephen. Merry Christmas to you and your family. Sure thing, it's the ACCUWEIGHT 255 Digital Lab Portable Mini Scale. It's a great size. fits perfectly for my cups an, tamper and distributor. Here is the link. www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B075VM7TJH/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 How are you finding your new purchase?
@@TheFrenchReview Merci beaucoup, I am enjoying experimenting at the moment to find the right grind and dose settings to suit my taste, as James Hoffmann says home espresso is a hobby ! I have been bought some freshly roasted Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee beans for Christmas so the machine will get a good workout this week. Keep up the good work on ami.
whats the max size cup this machine can produce - looks like a double but any idea what ml that is (can I get a decent size cup of coffee, without having to added additional water from the kettle?)
You can add hot water directly from the machine to make an americano. There is a spout just by the steam wand and you turn the steam dial the other way to get hot water.
@@TheFrenchReview today we placed an order on it. I’m a Brit in Germany so my tea consumption has faltered slowly over the years, and we’ve had a instant capsule coffee machine, but the eco friendly capsules taste stale, so we will see how fresh ground coffee tastes!
@@TheFrenchReview and thanks for posting the video! Where do you live in the U.K.? -You have a distinct Britishness to your accent and I can’t put my finger on it.
Pleasure, I am working on few more videos about the Barista Express. I live in London and Brighton prior to that. I get that a lot, weirdly enough. Whereabouts the UK you from?
Hi Serghei, I have upper burr on 5, side grind on 9. What's yours on? How are you getting on with your coffee machine? Don't forget to subscribe I have more videos coming and let me know if you have any topic ideas you would like me to cover. Thanks. Francois
@@TheFrenchReview Thank you for your reply,i am lookinf for a machine that make good espresso latte (for 4 or 5 tasses a day),with or without grinder. Best regards
@@TheFrenchReviewEnglish it's my second language and I understood everything! Your accent is charming and your English is very clear. Thanks for the video, my partner is a coffee lover and just got this machine today for his birthday, so we are watching videos to make the perfect coffee. Merci!!
Worse coffee machine, ever. If you just want I nice cup of coffee it’s the wrong machine. It’s for a professional barista, the designer must have shares in coffee, as the amount of coffee wasted, you can use a full bag of coffee beans to dial in, I can never get it right, gone through bags and bags of expensive fresh coffee, and still end up with a bitter coffee, the coffee is all over the counter tops the floor, it’s a night mare. The worse thing I ever purchased. I am not exaggerating. I seriously regret the purchase of this expensive machine. If you like coffee bu5 don’t understand the science, you will rip your hair out over it, and never get a decent cup of coffee. I really think they should be taken off the market.
The hopper size is fine, coffee beans go stale after about 3-5 days in a hopper due to air and light damage. Light is really bad for coffee so a small hopper is actually preferred. You should purge a single shot of water before and after every brew. It keeps everything clean. The pressure is incredibly important, it should always be within the black range. Don’t use palm tappers... Also, never tamp a mound of coffee, you end up having a thicker and uneven compression of coffee. It greatly risks channeling. To prevent spills, tap the sides of the PF with your tamper while it’s grinding. Then gently tap on your counter and it will evenly distribute the beans. Consistent and evenly pressed coffee is vital. That grinder is okay for entry level but will need to be upgraded to a stand alone eventually. I have this machine and it’s great for those starting out. Your milk should be between 60-65C to be optimal.
Hey Mika, Thanks for your feedback, that's really helpful. I have now changed the way I tamper. I also have a Dual boiler with a Smart Pro Grinder. It's quite different. Which coffee home set up do you have? Don't forget to subscribe to my channel, I am about to release a new video about the Dual Boiler. Thanks again for your message and please keep them coming. Francois 🙂
