Another cracking video guys, love the standing lamp straight out of the sitting room as a lighting prop 😂 First Amarillo pale in the klarstein in bottles now after a calamitous first brew day, but hopefully all good in the end! Any chance of a short video on how you prime your bottles and mini kegs please?

🤣🤣🤣 Yes the lamp is straight out of the living room! I'll try and do a short video on the priming and get it out ASAP. It gets easier, don't worry. Just make sure you have good cleaning and sanitising techniques. 🍻

Hi, I see you brewing in two different AIO pots: the Klarstein Maischfest and lately the Brewster Beacon. I am thinking of buying an AIO system but, guess what...on a budget. The Klarstein looks much cost worthy but I read on the web that the temperature readings are not that reliable and that recirculating is a must to make it working...but this is not an issue. I also read that the inside basket is not a good one and that there is much space between the basket and the the pot itself (and your video confirm it): in your experience, is that so bad? in which way? Would you suggest buying the Klarstein to anyone or not? WHat would you do if going back to when you bought it? Would you do it again? How much do you think the Brewster is better than the Klarstein, if you use a pump with the Klarstein ? ...no more questions...thanks for sharing. I like the fact that you really enjoy brewing, it is very clear watching your videos.

Hello there, that's alot of questions but I'll do my best to answer them honestly. Starting out we didn't see the point in investing £500+ on an aio brew kettle. What if you don't like the process. This kettle has bought us absolute joy on the brewing front and as it doesn't do everything has taught us more as a result. Regarding the basket, we have never found it a problem - as recirculation is a must with this kettle. A much better brewer enlightened me to the technical term of "vorlauf". This will stabilise the grain bed so the smaller pieces are filtered out and put back onto the top. For the price I would most definitely buy it again, we make fantastic beers on it. Regarding the space, just make sure you take that into account was calculating your mash volume. The only reason we have two kettles is the volume of beer we can brew. There are two of us and we give away a lot of our beer (people always ask us for more so the kettle can't be too bad). The brewster is a better kettle, You have complete wattage input control but the klarstein only has 1500w vs 3000w (but tbh this was always enough before we had the brewster). The basket is better and easier to clean. Having a pump is awesome as it provides a constant recirc during the mash and you can pump out through a plate chiller (which saves about 30 minutes off a brew day). The brewster is a nice kettle and we are lucky to have it but, we will still be brewing in the klarstein at my place and it will produce great beer and we'll have fun doing it. I hope I haven't waffled on too much, happy brewing and let us know which kettle you go for. Cheers🍻

Hi fellas, great video as always. New brew day for us tomorrow and I am going to try out your mash water calculator. We have the Klarstein 35l and we are brewing a 20l batch using 3.75kgs of malt. Your calculator gives me a reading of 23-26l of strike water. Am I using the app correctly?
@TheGingerBrewers
@TheGingerBrewers Год назад
Hey Evil, 23-26 will give you a very loose mash. The calculate mash volume calculator needs to be the kg of grain (3.75) and the bottom window how much dead space (space around the basket once you are mashed in). I would put this figure about 5. This will give you a mash in volume of 13 to 16 litres - try 14... Good luck!🍻

@@TheGingerBrewers thank you, 14l is exactly what we went for, I was just unsure have we calculated the dead space? Will keep you posted, this will be our first traditional best bitter.

@@TheGingerBrewers it's one of my favourite beer styles and for something so simple it's quite easy to tweak it, i sometimes like to add a little carawheat for an extra sweet not and most wheat beer yeasts can give a decent shift of flavours based on temp so if you prefer the banana notes in some over clove fermenting warm can bring that out.
@TheGingerBrewers

That's a great tip... going to pin this one.

How many bottles do you end up with? If you don't like it much will you give it away to friends?

Can I ask? Could you explain what dead space means?? I have just got a Klarstein (35ltr) and been trying to do the mash volume but don’t know what my dead space would be??
