Turning their backs to the opportunity to properly see an orchestra playing Beethoven. It is not just a disrespect to the EU, that you can agree or not, but also a disrespect to the musicians.
Funny how they keep having a go at the Brexit Party when if you notice, the French Front National party members remained seated despite the President's request for them to stand.

Robert King I understand. Well, the chances of rejoicing are much bigger now. I reckon joining the Eurozone and Schengen Area will not stop people from voting to rejoin.
Pedro Figueiredo considering we were net contributors, we never got money from the EU that wasn’t ours anyway. This new scheme is just going to plunge EU countries into even more debt and ruin the Euro even more, all at the same time as destroying a bit more of the nation state status of its member states. Yes give me that (borrowed and debt laden) EU money 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
All of you who think the EU thinks of itself as a sovereign country or whatever clearly doesn’t know the first thing about the EU, what a superanational entity is, or how the institutions work.
William Vasiladiotis The EU is becoming a ridiculous joke with its “anthem” and trying to behave like a nation. It its NOT a nation. It has non of the prerequisites of a nation. It is fooling itself and becoming an international joke.
rosshilton The Africa Union has an anthem too. It is not a nation. The EU is very far from an international joke, but rather the continuation of a union based on treaties, and Europe is better together than apart. History has shown this.
William Vasiladiotis The African Union is another huge joke. Does the EU have a seat at G7? From memory the EU demanded that France hand over its seat to the EU and France told the EU to get stuffed. Great union that is.... As for history: An arrogant Napoleon I attacked Austria in 1830, leading to war across most of Europe. The UK was forced to intervene and France was defeated. An arrogant Napoleon III attacked Prussia in 1870, and was severely beaten. Germany attacked France in 1914, and was severely beaten after the UK was forced by treaty to assist. (I have 6 uncles lying under Belgian soil due to that treaty). Germany attacked everyone in 1939, France capitulated and Germany was beaten. If you want to stop war in Europe remove the right to have military forces from France and Germany.
Pedro Figueiredo Pedro, don’t you realise that the EU is Hitler and Napoleons dream carried on? Instead of an army marching over Europe they used economic and trade might to subjugate smaller economy European nations.
Adults has the great responsibility to represent not only themselves but also their childrens that they will inherit the earth 🌎. This is why we chose politicians with the most childish behaviour.
I keep thinking about these despicable brexit nitwits who turned their backs on Ode to Joy. So shameful. They were showing even less respect for themselves by saying ‘No’ to Brother and Sisterhood, to life and to love. . Such contemptible oxygen thieves. So sad...
This is one of the most shameful acts of disrespect I've ever seen from anyone representing our great country on the international stage. This is deeply embarrassing to the good people of the UK. I can't possibly believe that these people are from the same country as me.
French. It's a translation of Ode to Joy by Maurice Bouchor (1855-1929). The singer is French soprano Anais Yvoz who I guess chose to sing it in her own language rather than the original German. Beginning at 2:53: Que la joie qui nous appelle (That the joy which calls us) Nous accueille en sa clarté ! (should receive us in its clarity) Que s’éveille sous son aile (That it should awaken beneath its wing ) L’allégresse et la beauté ! (jubilation and beauty) Plus de haine sur la terre (No more hatred on the Earth) Que renaisse le bonheur (on which happiness is reborn) Tous les hommes sont des frères (All men are brothers) Quand la joie unit les cœurs. (when joy unites hearts.)

He is just saying that in the same way it's disrespectful to not stand for another country's anthem whether or not you disagree with them, the same applies to the EU
So that means other people now have the right to disrespect the anthem of the UK? And also turn their back towards it?! Even if people disagree with a country or the EU, it's highly disrespectful to turn the their backs on a national anthem, especially if you are a guest there.
@Gabriel That's something completely different. I would also turn my back for the old parts of our national anthem. And even if the EU isn't a country it's still highly disrespectful.

rosshilton I know. But you did not mentioned the Maastricht Treaty signed on 7th February 1992 which was agreed by the members of the ECC back then thus making them the member states of the European Union. Yes the EU has a flag and anthem but did that organisation forced the government to put the flag in government buildings and teach the people especially the schoolchildren the “Ode to Joy”? The anthem is simply a symbol of unity between *SOVEREIGN* member states. Yet the people against the EU criticise it when problems arises in any of the EU 27 as if they are the only one who decides what to do.

The UK is now going to be tax haven for rich tax evaders and money launderers. *Do we still hold all the cards against the EU?* I just realised the referendum took place on this day.
Kieran Henderson Please don’t talk about tax havens and money laundering mate - take a look at Ireland with its illegal Double Irish tax system. Under Irish law a company can transfer its profits tax-free to the offshore company, where they can remain untaxed for years. ... If done right, there is no tax paid anywhere. The first Irish company now has all the money and can again send it onward to the company in the tax haven. Or look at Germany where foreign investors are freed from the burden of taxes on interest in Germany. The country retains the privacy of account holders. Foreign income is exempt from taxation whether it is in the form of dividends from foreign subsidiaries or income earned in foreign branches. Corporations benefit from Germany's tax environment as only 5% of dividends and capital gains have taxes levied against them. These classes of income are considered nondeductible operating expenditures according to German accounting standards. Or look at Luxembourg where dividends of many companies are not taxed. Long-term capital gains on stocks are tax-exempt if a majority share is 10% or more is not held. By placing segments of business entities in Luxembourg, corporations worldwide have been able to cut huge tax bills from their expenses. Luxembourg has become so notable for its tax laws that much of the country's attractiveness for outside businesses are owed exclusively to these features, and Luxembourg's economy is partially built around the business gained from its tax structure. Luxembourg is also a global centre for money laundering - but they refuse to control it. Happy to prove all of the above form EU reports and documents. Let’s not use tax avoidance as an argument shall we......
