My first Brian Auger album was with Julie Driscoll, and I purchased as many that arrived in Pittsburgh. Of course albums and later CDs had linear notes, which gave me a greater appreciation for Rod Stewart who was his original vocalist. Little did I know that John McLaughlin cut his jazz chops with Brian Auger. Auger tackled one of the most difficult Eddie Harris tunes, Freedom Jazz Dance, in my opinion he did it justice. This is a monster concert, however I saw them without a vocalist, they toured with songs from the 3rd and 4th album; they killed Wes Montgomery's Bumpin on the Sunset. I've got stories about that album 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
This is one of my favorite artists. Certainly Hammond B-3 players. I saw him once at a place called Shaboo inn, near UConn. It was intense. I have literally everything he’s done. He’s played on other artists. Now he was playing with son on drums, daughter on vocals. For us jazz rock enthusiasts, he is amazing. Brain Damage was on one Lp. Outstanding musician
Saw Brian and the Oblivion Express in the late 70’s @ the Caramaran in SD Second Time at the Anthology in the 90’s He is a Master keyboardist And His Children Sabana and Karma are incredibly Talented check he has contributed with many greats Buddy Guy and Klaus Doldinger , Julie Tippetts!
Clive Chaman is a monster on that Fender Pre.His playing here and his work with The Jeff Beck Group puts him in with a very elite group of bassist IMHO.
Brian Auger is the last of my Top 5 all time greats still living, and I hope he continues on for many more years doing what he does best- playing great keyboards! Saw him live on the above tour for the first time back at The Warehouse in New Orleans opening for The Crusaders. The only reason I think Brian was never a bigger star is that he never took the commercial route in terms of looking for a 'Top 40' hit- it was just about making great music...
It was not until '78 that I was introduced to B.A.. Been a fan ever since! He has now brought in this son and daughter, who are both assets. Talent runs in families
And here we are nearly 50 years later and it still stands as an awesome concert!!! Little did I know how lucky I was to see Brian at the Bodega in Campbell the same year!!
Высшая школа джаз-рока. Не для школьников. Вне моды и времени - изначально и по сей день, но! - в первых рядах первооткрывателей, основоположников, пионеров ноу-хау изысканий, учредителей жанра. В одно время, в один момент с Frank Zappa, Chick Corea, Jan Hammer/Jerry Goodman/Billy Cobham, Allan Holdsworth, Magma, Joe Zawinul, George Duke.
Larry what has your uncle been doing since the 70's heyday of Brian Auger and the Oblivion Express and does he live in the states ? I became a conga player after hearing the album " Closer to it" he was a huge inspiration to my playing back then !
@@mibooth1852 My uncle passed away 2 years ago but he left behind quite a recording history with such artists as Peter Green, Chris DeBurg, and lots of British jazz/rock artists.
His first beats on "Whenever You're Ready" (Closer to It) still stick with me - the whole song rides on a conga foundation. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-6kiRstDkdcA.html

Look at the date it was recorded ...... in those days there are different kind of music with their directions ... so there is much choice ... Brain is one of many.
Followed Brian Auger in the early 60's at most of the small clubs he talks about. Just amazing and never disapointed. Knowone out there with that ability to play. A one off - never to be repeated again. SAD!
i was at this show with pals up in the balcony, thought it might fall off. Winterland was AMAZING! Cant remember who else played that night. Anyone else there remember them doing 'happiness is just around the bend'... what a life it was!!! cant remember it all, anyone else can fill in blanks?
I am not a keyboardist and can't say much about whether Brian Auger is the no. 1 for keyboard tecnique or not. But I am sure he is the no. 1 for the grooving. You can feel that in any of his recordings and live performances, no doubt.
Wow, I just saw Brian along with Alex, and Brian's son Karma on drums and Dan Lutz on Bass do some of these same songs two weeks ago April 24 AND 25 in LA....some 40 years later and Brian is still the Hammond Master! Love that man and his bands....then and now!
Got hooked on OE around '73 when heard "Happiness is Just Around the Bend". I was at the St. Louis version of this concert. Front row directly in front of Jack Mills.
Thanks for the upload. Brought back memories. I saw this same line-up at The Joker, a big bar in Elyria, Ohio while I was attending community college. The Joker featured local favorites, Fayreweather. Michael Stanley and sometimes well-known acts like the Oblivion Express, in in its short run. Admission: $5, pitchers of 3.2 beer:$2.50.
Thanks "Jazz on MV3"🌺 for this full Concert of Brian Auger"s Oblivion Express : " 11/29/1975 - Winterland (San Francisco, CA)." Thanks for your "personnel" notes : "Brian Auger - organ, vocals Jack Mills - lead guitar Alex Ligertwood - vocals, guitar, percussion Clive Chaman - bass Lennox Laington - congas David Dowle - drums."🙋🎼💜🎸🎷 🎻🎹🎺🌺🎧🎼✿ܓ" ✿ܓ"
Darn me! Never thought that Brian could get this FUNKY, i listened and bought his studio albums but this is something different (nope i don't got carried away by this bad as conga player, not even by this heavenly funky bass player)...Man ! i wish i was born a decade or two earlier. LYMAN WOODARD any one?
+Mats Nilsson I was born in this era and it was a great time for rock and roll. A lot of bands were allowed to explore different frontiers in music and blend various styles together into a new sound. Not the cookie cutter crap that passes for music these days.
+TheIsreal0312 I envy you, nowadays after (more or less) PRINCE and his "SIGN OF THE TIMES" album there is nothing like "exploring"or some ever sign of real music talent when it comes to FUNK!
Quanti ricordi ,ero solo una ragazzina quando con la tua splendida famiglia trascorrevi qualche giorno in casa nostra in Sardegna , un saluto affettuoso ,chissà se questo sms verrà mai letto
The great Alex Ligertwood! His work David Sancious is extraordinary. Does anyone know who wrote the lyrics for this version of Freedom Jazz Dance? The studio version is great.
Saw BA 2 times at a liitle Cleveland Cub called Nighttown....just in the last 14 years. Brian credits Cleveland FM radio stations WMMS and WNCR for his success in the US.
Wow! This is how I grew up. Drowning in great music. When Winterland was being demolished I worked about 4 blocks away. On a day the wrecking ball wasn't being used I sneaked inside for the last time with a co worked. There were still some posters up, but they were damaged. Took a piece of rubble as a souvenir. Lost it years later. That place saw some of the best musical performances ever. Like this one!
@@bak-mariterry5180 It was. I bought a Honda there. Haven't been to San Francisco for a while. It is no longer a Honda dealership. Not sure what it is now.
@@bak-mariterry5180 Look at the state of music and the crowds today. It was a different time. I was really young. Only got a chance to see a few shows. Thankful I got in on the tail end.
@@adc2327 I'm 63 ( next month ) and saw quite a few shows ( mid 70's - early 90's ) and the music and the crowds are so different than I only go to 4-5 shows a year now .
How could have never heard this name until now? I didn’t think I was living under a rock, I thought I was a little bit more with the program…. The Baked Potato videos first , Now research and. Catchup with missing the boat….
??? Alex is a phenomenal singer.... he's got a bit of Peter Gabriel timbre/edge I've always liked, incredible power, and awesome upper-range. Do you mean vocal quality or performance/stage-presence quality? In the latter, he can be tedious to communicate with while playing :) On Santana's "Zebop" LP (as well as others) he was nuclear.......
