I was at that Ohio death fest. I think it was 2000/2001ish and I also only went to see Disgorge (Mex) and Drogheda. Disgorge couldnt make it into the country and Drogheda actually showed up and didnt play. CBT was there though. Great show. I bought a Maniac Butcher LP. Thats about all I remember.

Totally agreed with the idea that Metal has to be catchy. People confuse the word catchy with "Poppy" but it has nothing to do with that - it's just about making sure a song has something MEMORABLE about that keeps you coming back. If it's in one ear, out the other - what's the point? Good song-writing in Extreme Metal is what separates the men from the boys.
